Has anyone used AT&T for their internet?

4 posts in this topic

So, my provider is seriously getting on my nerves with their terrible service and their unbelievably horrible customer service. Yesterday, I get a letter in the mail about AT&T and their internet service. Considerably lower than what I'm currently paying. I contacted AT&T to see if it really is available here, and they said yes, and by the way, they have another promotion for TV service and the ticket is drastically reduced if I sign up before whenever. If the HOA okays me having a dish (probably will, I'm on the back of the building and back to trees), I'll probably take advantage of the dish option so I can get the ticket since I don't get anything close to NFL Network currently and the sports package with the current people is ridiculously expensive.

Anyone used the FastAccess DSL from AT&T? Or UVerse? How reliable is it? I'm currently dealing with outages almost every hour, and if I have more than 5 tabs open,or two browsers open at the same time, which is pretty much all the time, my internet is basically useless. And how reliable is the dish?

I used to have DSL (have since upgraded to FIOS) and it worked well. I have DirecTV and love it EXCEPT during bad weather. If you go with a dish, make sure you have backup (like OTA) during storms.

How easy it is to lose signal? One thing I'd always heard about going satellite was that it'll go out with every strong gust of wind. Granted, that was years ago...

Any downfalls on DSL? Most of the reviews I've found are actually for UVerse and it seems to be either love it or hate it, no middle ground. I'd really like to have another option other than these people, especially with what they're charging versus what the FastAccess costs... I just want to make sure it's not cheap for a reason, you know?

Satellite goes out during heavy storms/severe weather. A couple of feet of snow can mess up reception, too. It does not go out with every gust of wind. Other than the bad weather thing, DirecTV is the best thing going. I have FIOS TV, too, since it came cheap with internet and phone package. I only resort to FIOS when the dish is out. I like the dish much better.

My DSL (Verizon) was pretty reliable but nowhere near as fast as real broadband.
