Rumor: Cary Williams to be traded to the Colts?

158 posts in this topic

Pagano obviously knows and likes Cary Williams. In this passing league you need all the corners you can get so the Colts will have to overpay if I was the Ravens.

Heard the same thing. Sounds preposterous but Pagano is there and apparently high on Williams.

Would the Colts really give up pass rush for a DB?

Sounds crazy

Wow, that would be something... we can't do that unless we get a starter back in return, and all we'd really want is a Rush End or Rush OLB.

From Irsay:"SERIOUS TRADE WINDS Swirling! We're talking giving up high pick for SERIOUS Vet/Starter!..."

Looks like a high pick for Cary, I would assume that would mean 2nd rounder.

As soon a I saw irsay's tweet I thought of Cary. He declined the offer so he wants big money. Some team would give that to him next year..

If the FO is comfortable with Jimmy, do the trade.

There will be some growing pains with Jimmy though for sure

Cary does provide depth, and with Jimmy Smith's lackluster performances as of late, even I am a little hesitant.
It all depends on what Indy has to offer.

Just heard this on 105.7, A reliable source is saying that the Ravens and the Colts are discussing a trade for Williams.

Question: who is the reliable source? lol
As of now, these are just crazy rumors. We'll see what happens in the next few hours.

If Carry gets traded there goes our depth and experience. I don't know if it will be a good idea, but we do need help at pass rush. I say if its for Freeney thats something to consider...

We would still be pretty good at CB.. Gorrer could be a decent #3 option. I'm basin that just off of what little we have seen though

, if we were seriously considering trading Cary, I think we woulda played gorrer and Asa earlier last night

Chykie Brown and Gorrer are both solid IMO.

The only thing Cary has on them is height, and his height didn't exactly get him any interceptions, just sayin.

It makes perfect sense to trade Cary now. I am comfortable with it.

A #2 is a good deal for a guy like Williams. Coming from the Colts it is almost another #1 pick. haha

Agreed. Chykie really impressed me last night. I thought he was possibly on the bubble, but I thought he played really tight. Add Gorrer and Graham in, and we still have a solid unit without Cary. That doesn't even include Asa, who I thought played well, but will probably see his field time on ST.

Vinny Cerado (sp?), who is the former GM of the Redskins, and now host for 105.7 said the name of the source. I didn't catch it but in his opinion he said it is a extremely reliable source.

I have felt like Cary Williams could be going to Indy for a while. This is not surprising to me and I doubt most aren't surprised. Williams is a good CB, but I was very concerned that he looked so good because of Pagano's schemes. I was worried that with Pees' schemes he wouldn't be as effective. This is only preseason, but I feel like my initial concerns are a little more validated. I believe Indy is a good fit for Williams in all honesty.

I feel very comfortable with Webb, Smith, Graham, Gorrer, Brown & Jackson. I see that as the 6 who make the team. I mentioned in another thread in which CB makes the team that I had a feeling Williams will go somewhere. I guess we'll see where this goes. If we got a 2nd or 3rd or even a 4th, I feel like that would be a good pick since I see Williams walking next year and with our depth I feel comfortable with letting him go now.

I will be happy no matter the outcome because I like Cary.

I don't think I would do it for a draft pick. We need something that is going to help us now.
It depends on how high a draft pick. I think the reason we would entertain trading Williams is because if we keep him we will probably have to cut a good young player like Brown, Gorrer, or Jackson which we don't want to do. We don't want to cut a young corner this year and than have Williams leave in free agency next year.

If it's for a 2nd round pick then PULL THE TRIGGER.

Cary hasn't looked great so far, sure he'll bounce back but he's a solid veteran not young talent. With the Colts 2nd rounder, which could be a very high pick, I'm positive we'd make out like absolute bandits in the draft. Imagine what Ozzie could do with a first and two second round picks!

I'm totally comfortable letting Cary go. Gorrer, Brown and Asa should all be retained and this frees up space for that to happen. They need to get playing time. Cary looked great last year mostly thanks to our vicious pass rush.

GO FOR IT OZZIE!

Plus, I have my doubts we'd be able to retain him next year anyway. We're not going to give him more money than what we offered and we can use that money to help lock up Flacco. Cary's not worth it, a high second round draft pick could be another KO, Kruger, or Ray Rice!

I read somewhere it was rumored to be for Mike Jenkins or Cary Williams but they were both ruled out. Will see. If we could make this happen I would much rather get a pick in return than a player. How much do you really think we could get for Williams though?

I had already stated I wish we traded him and got something in return other than a comp pick. We are deep at corner and can afford to let Cary go with Graham still here. We have plenty of people who have to potential to fill our nickel role if someone goes down(who hopefully isn't Webb). I trust Asa will develop and Gorrer has shown he can fill in if needed.

I heard Vonta Davis's name mentioned too (the Dolphin's corner). Irsay did tweet that it was a big name plaer and Williams doesn't exactly fit that description.

I could see the pick being a conditional 3rd at the highest. I really don't see it being a 2nd, I like Cary but he's not a star, somebody lied.

He is a starting corner from one of the top pass defenses last year. Anything less than a 1st wouldnt really be worth it. I would rather keep him a year and let him walk then get a 2nd or 3rd next year. Cary for another Cody/Kindle/Kruger? I would rather have Cary.

What he said! Despite our complaints, Cary is a good CB and anything less than a 1 wouldn't make sense. I don't want some old player in exchange for a good young corner.

How many times do players actually get traded for a first round pick? First round picks don't get traded for anything less than elite players. Cary is not one of these elite players.

So you listed Cody/Kindle/Kruger...how about Ray Rice or Torrey Smith?

Plus I don't buy into one player causing a whole TEAM to be toward the top in a statistical category like overall pass defense. A solid pass rush can influence pass defense statistics and vice versa. Cary may not exactly be expendable, you can never have too many CB's, but I'd trade him now knowing he's going to walk after this year. Then if we need a CB, we can sign someone who has been cut from another team.

Cary is a starter! Don't do it! Only do it if you get comensurate value. Good starting corners are a premium in the NFL, so don't take that risk for a draft choice in the future.
