Pass Happy Offense & predicted Stats

10 posts in this topic

After hearing buzz around the NFL and lots of talk that the Ravens just might FINALLLLLY become an uptempo pass happy Flacco driven team I thought it would be cool to see what everyone on here thinks our offensive playmakers might do as far as stats go.

I think the biggest change is that Ray Rice will have a decreased RUSHING role. I think this is Flaccos time to prove that he deserves a big contract in the not too distant future and to finally break free from all the league wide "Skip Bayless-Esque" criticism that he sucks and doesnt play like a top QB.

Good 'Ol Jaws amongst others described Flacco's arm as "The strongest in the league". Now as long as our offense continues to prosper and get better as a heavy passing no huddle offense, I think Joe could easily put up top 10 QB stats.

With all that said here are my predicted stats for the 2012 offensive playmakers.

Joe Flacco- 4,250 Yards 28TD 11INT.

Ray Rice- 1,120 Yards 7TD.... 80rec 790yards 4td.

Torrey Smith- 82rec 1,190 Yards 9TD

Anquan Boldin 70Rec 750yds 6 TD

Jacoby Jones- 40rec 500yds 3td

Pitta/Dickson Combo- 80rec 900yds 6 tds.

Obviously its roughly projections but I seriously think the Ravens have a group of talented guys on offense. Leave it to Anquan Boldin who said this is the deepest Raven's Receiving Corps he has ever seen and who can blame him. 3 speedsters(Smith,Jones, Williams) , and 3 sure handed guys for that over the middle work(Boldin, Pitta, Dickson).

Rice's rushing yds decline but not too much, you obviously cant abandon a pro bowl top 5 running back and juggernaut full back combo, but just look at the Falcons last year, Ryan posted 4100+yds and 29TD while Michael Turner ran for 1300+and 10TDS. So while we deploy a pass heavy attack, Rice will still run over Ds every game, just dialed back, but he will boast a huge receiving effort.

I think its time to shake the cobbwebs off our offense that has been living in the defense's shadow for too long, people always saying "Flacco didnt win those games the defense did". Hopefully (Barring any Cam Cameron escapades) Joe will take control of this offense and become a true leader.

In a year with huge ? marks about our Sugg-less , young defense...I think Joe and our O will take us to the superbowl, maybe not this year but soon. Then people will have respect for Flacco and he will earn a nice contract.

What do you guys think? What do you predict our O will be-Run heavy...Pass heavy...Balanced?

I think the offense will be more pass oriented than last season, but still not like a NE/GB offense. Those numbers sound about right to me although I would take some catches away from Rice. Q and Torrey will both be 1,000 yard receivers. Doss, Williams, and Thompson will probably get some run and have 25-40 catches between them. Rainey/Pierce/Leach will get some action too maybe 30-40 catches out of the backfield combined.

I know it's just been the preseason, but there is just something special I'm seeing out of Flacco so far. --- May I also add Torrey Smith...

Joe just looks different, he looks ELITE. We always knew he had it, but this year I think he displays it. I'm expecting a HUGE year from Joe. It's amazing what Caldwell has done so far to help him. He looks more aware, he's making better read and adjustments, and most importantly better decisions. There is just a swagger about his play this preseason that I just love. I hope we can sign him long term, quick.

With all that being said...

Flacco- 4,100 yards, 37 TDs, 12 INTs, 3 fumbles. 62.2 %
Smith- 1,250 yards, 11 TDs, 70 rec
Boldin- 900 yards, 10 TDs, 89 rec
Rice- 550 yards, 3 TDs, 62 rec
Jones- 400 yards, 5 TDs, 38 rec
Pitta/Dickson- 650 yards, 6 TDs, 70 rec
Williams- 250 yards, 1 TD, 22 rec
Leach 9 yards, 1 TD, 4 rec

I put some thought into this one. lol.

Whenever Joe feels pressure, he very often throws the ball for short passes to Ray. That's why Ray Rice ends up having so many receptions in last season (our lacklust O-Line). It's how Joe avoids sacks and fumbles, whenever he doesn't have enough time in the pocket. I would expect that to atleast stay the same, if we get more agressive in the passing game. Also Ray is actually a pretty good Receiver and I wouldn't be surprised if his regular receptions (non-dumpoff throws) actually increase. If you add that to Joe opening up lanes for Ray with the pass, that actually makes it easier for Ray to run. I wouldn't expect Rays production to decrease significantly even, if he doesn't get the ball handed to him like regular RB as often.

Joe will pass 4000 yrd, I am certain. Torrey will get 1000+ yrd. And so will Anquan, imho. Jones, PItta and Dickson get 500+ yrds each. I expect Dickson and Pitta to be the go to Red Zone targets, so I expect them to have the most TDs. Leach and Ray will have 100+ receiving yrds.

i like the idea of the thread... surprised with the lack of comments.

anyway, i am ecstatic about what joe can do this year looking at his progression so far. he might have said he has always been confident but it looks like he is finally showing it on the field.

stat predictions
Joe Flacco 4770 yds 35TD 13 INT
Ray Rice 200 car 1100 yds 7TD's 50 rec 550 yds 2TD's
Bernard Pierce 90 car 450 yds 2TD's
Torrey Smith 85 rec 1200 yds 9 TD's
Anquan Boldin 75 rec 1000 yds 8 TD's
Both TE's 75 rec 850 yds 10 TD's
Jacoby Jones 45 rec 500 yds 4 TD's
Laquan Williams 20 rec 250 yds 1TD's
Tandon Doss 15 rec 150 yds 1TD's
Deonte Thompson 5 rec 50 yds 0TD's
Vont'a Leach 5 rec 20 yds 0 TD's

that accounts for almost everyone i see touching the ball on offense this year. hopefully i made no math errors

Did everybody notice how much they are playing our last game on NFLnetwork because of how much we are passing the ball now......
Maybe that's why we never got any love before. lol
Honestly, as long as we win games, I don't care much how we do it. Although it is certainly nice to keep that smashmouth tradition in all three phases.
Torrey Smith has the potential to be a top 10 wideout. With that we already have a top 5 defense, top 5 runningback, we will have a top 5 kicker,... Just about the only real weakness I can find would be our kick/punt coverage.
Here are some of my rough predictions for the offense:
Quarterback
Joe Flacco: 3,800 yards, 23 TDs, 8 interceptions
Tyrod Taylor-50 yards, 0 TD, 1 interception
Rushing
Ray Rice: 1,300 yards, 6 TDs
Bernard Pierce: 300 yards, 1 TD
Bobby Rainey: 150 Yards, 0 TD
Tyrod Taylor: 60 yards, 1 TD
Joe Flacco: 50 yards, 1 TD
Vonta Leach: 11 yards, 0 TDs
Wide receivers/tight ends
Torrey Smith: 50 REC, 1,000 yards, 8 TDs
Anquan Boldin: 60 REC, 800 yards, 4 TDs
Dennis Pitta/Ed Dickson combo: 60 REC, 800 yards, 7 TDs
Jacoby Jones: 25 REC, 300 yards, 3 TDs
Vonta Leach: 7 REC, 30 yards, 1 TD
Tandon Doss: 3 REC, 30 yards, 0 TDs
LaQuan Williams: 3 REC, 25 yards, 0 TDs
How's that?

I don't think it's safe to switch to a pass happy offense with Cam Cameron at the helm. He doesn't use routes and concepts that help get receivers consistently open, instead thinking that 9 routes are a consistent means to offensive success. As smart as the transition would be, as this is a passing league and it would certainly help our expensive running back's longevity to abuse him less, it's not happening this season.

I really want to be excited about the offense this season. However, it's hard to say what's going to happen with Cam Cameron still as OC. We could see the same ol' that we're used to seeing every season.

I believe stats will improve. But just how much is hard to say, especially with some of the teams that we're facing.

Cautiously optimistic I remain until I consistently see otherwise. Key word there is consistently.

I'm sorry but you have to remember there's only one ball to go around. Guys like LaQuan will not have 250 receiving yards. Unless of course, somebody gets hurt, and it doesn't look like you predicted that.
