Flacco / What If

21 posts in this topic

Week in week out I cant believe how Flacco is improving.

I got to wondering what if none of the pre season drama took place?

Boller would be a starter, and LIKELY ( in my opinion) would be doing a pretty decent job. Smith would back up. Flacco would be taking notes. Boller would do well with the O-line and Cam would work to accent his strengths.

Flacco likely would not even dress. We would have this amazing talent just sitting there going to "waste". We would have this smart, mobile, accurate, great passer. Holding a note *** {really? I cant type the word p a d ?}and a pencil. Possibly the best QB we have ever had. Sitting on a bench.

I was ( still am ) a Boller fan. I think given the right scirmstances could be a great quarter back. I am sorry he is hurt but I am glad things worked out the way they have. I think to one degree or another on one lever or another every one is getting to be a Flacco fan. The past three games it is tough to believe he is a rookie. One could only imagine what next season might bring. We have him for five years. Its gonna be great.

The thing with Boller is- great arm, great physical tools, bad mind. He just didn't have "it". The "it" that is always talked about is hard to define. But look at how Flacco has matured in the face of great adversity. Look at his poise in Pittsburgh. Look at him bounce back from his horrid day in Indy. The man is calm. And don't say that Boller didn't have an offense this good. Flacco doesn't have a game breaking receiver, Heap isn't as good as he was for Boller, and we have lost our starting Right Guard. Boller would have folded in Pittsburgh on monday night and probably wouldn't have led us back today in Cleveland. I wasn't one who hated Boller, but towards the end of last year I knew it was time for another QB.

I think I'm gonna wait till the end of the season until I say Flacco is a "smart, mobile, accurate, great passer" QB.

Grossman was doing great in the Bears SB run and all of a sudden he started to stink down the road. Hopefully that kind of thing doesn't happen to Flacco.

This is why you don't pull him. Even if he had tanked this entire season, the Ravens still would have had him starting week one next year because 2008 is supposed to be a COMPLETE learning process. The fact that he is playing at an NFL level is just amazing.

I'm sorry, but that's a horrendous comparison. Grossman was in his fifth year out of Florida when he took the Bears to the Superbowl. That is a one year wonder... Flacco is in his rookie year out of Delaware and will have a good season by NFL standards.

Glad to see you are as big of a fan of Flacco as I am, on Kyle Boller that is a different story lol. Flacco has looked great dont get me wrong but the test will be on the road @ the meadowlands. I would hate

to have Boller as a starter, dont get me wrong he has improved but I just cant get over the Boller who trips over his o line and fumbles the snaps. Little mistakes like that the Ravens cant afford. Maybe I

am being to harsh but who cares cuz FLACCO IS THE FUTURE!

Not really.

Grossman was injured and played his first full year in 06. Other than that he has never played a full season.

Flacco has IT, like Manning, Brady and Ben. Joe stands tall in the pocket like Brady and his feet move like Peyton and he usually learns from his mistakes and if he screws up does not seem to live in his brain. Is he as good as Brady and Peyton--NO--but he has the potential. I have been a HUGE Boller supporter, but sitting in the rain last year, I realized he was never going to get the job done here.

If you negate Bollers injury then we could say Troy's tonsills never would have been infected and he would have been our starter this year. But let's get real Flacco is our future and looks bright and to have Troy as a back-up is a big plus right now so I couldn't be happier with that.

BELIEVE ME when I say I WAS THE BIGGEST BOLLER SUPPORTER ever! but seeing flacco play as well as he has this season has made me see what a TRUE quarterback does.. The thing with boller is that he had amazing talent.. but just lacked confidence. NO WAY would he stay poised after getting intercepted.. you'd see him come to the sidelines and hang his head between his knees.. flacco stays talking to the coachs/on the phone/talking to other players.. so you know hes just seeing ways to improve and make the next play better. You cant just blame boller either. Billick threw him out against a weak(at least i think) offensive line.. or maybe they just didnt care to keep bollers face mud free. All I know is that.. When kyle used to step on the feild.. he HAD CONFIDENCE IF HE MADE DECENT PLAYS.. but every single PASS i was scared to death for him.. sacks/fumbles/int. happened at least 2 or 3 times per game with boller. With flacco.. Im EXCITED when he takes the feild.. I know what he's capable of and he contiunes to amaze me. He's not the most interesting suprise of the season for me either.. The "3 headed monster" and the fact that Suggs is playin his best football ever are other things that have suprised me this season.. I thought AT most we'd go 8-8.. Now honestly. I'll be dissapointed if I see us go less than 10-6. We have all the ingredients.. We HAVE a qb, a mean offensive line.. an amazing D that gets points for us.. Now its all just a matter of coming together and playing each sunday as if it's a play-off.. which is what I think harbaughs philosopy is.

Did you see some of the throws Flacco made to Mason yesterday? He is now comfortable threading the needle across the middle... Only Joe could have made those throws. Not to mention we continue to stretch the field deep, which backs up the safeties and opens up the run game. Oh, and Jason Brown has got to be the Pro Bowl Center for the AFC, he was outstanding again vs. Shaun Rogers and the only time Rogers got through was on the horrendous non-call of a blatant off-sides by not just Rogers but another Brown too!

I think we all are saying the same thing...

Sorry Boller got hurt, sorry Smith got sick, but Man-o-man are we gald Flacco got the start.

I would rather discover this talent NOW as opposed to two or three years down the road.

I would have to agree, I was big on Kyle Boller being the starter as well this year. I actually had hope in Boller this year, but when he got injured I knew it was time to throw Flacco in. Yeah I can't imagine if we would have let Joe sit a year or two. I am glad we are noticing his talents RIGHT NOW and not later. He signed a 5 year deal with us which gives us Flacco for 5 years and most likely he'll be our QB for the rest of his career(hopefully!)

Guess what??? I am finally, finally after all this time happy with the performance of Joe Flacco. I don't think he threw a pass sunday that was even close to being intercepted. He's grown a lot over these last 2 games, especially in cleveland with good competition and being down at one point.
Great job Joe!!!

WHAT IS UP WITH ALL OF YOU BOLLER SUPPORTERS! I DIDNT THINK HE WAS GOING TO DO MUCH WHEN WE FIRST GOT HIM  . FLACCO IS GOING TO LEAD THE RAVENS IN THE DIRECTION WE WANT

TO GO. ERASE BOLLER FROM YOUR MEMORY! NO GOOD COMES FROM HIM, I HATE JUST THINKING ABOUT THE #7

That is a joke right? I saw many more times where Rodgers disrupted the backfield....

Gasp for real? Let me check outside . . . Nope the sky isn't falling ;)

Just kidding lol

But in all seriousness Joe has really started to impress a lot of people after these last few games, especially after having a few bad games and against an improved Cleveland Defense. Now people are mentioning him and Matt Ryan as the two rookie QBs that are rewriting the book on using your rookie QB. I think it just goes to show that it has a lot to do with the mental aspect of a QB's game over the physical tools (just look at some of the "potenial" big QBs that have been drafted over the years: JaMarcus Russell, Kyle Boller, Alex Smith, etc.)

I couldn't stand Boller as our Qb, he did have good qualities like toughness and a strong will, it was just out weighed by his lack of field presence/awareness.. I would like to see another team pick him up and test the waters..

There really isn't anything to compare... if flacco doesnt improve at all, he is still better than boller ever was. It took a lot of "bad" things happening for Flacco to start. I thought he would be a really good QB for Balt. but i didnt want him to start this year b/c our young O-Line. Im glad everything worked out well.
