Purple Punishment

Wayne Hunter Benched

Just saw this on ESPN. It was inevitable just because they needed someone to take the fall and blame for the total subpar play of Sanchez and Tebow.

Just what I was thinking. First it was the OC, now it's Hunter. Then it'll be the receivers, then the new OC... Somehow it's just never the QB's fault.

Yeah they were saying once the receivers are healthy ad show up, everything will fall into place. I don't understand how they believe the Jets are perennial contender

Wayne Hunter was already a horrible RT and so they needed to upgrade Hunter a long time ago and should have done that in the Draft. This right here isn't about Sanchez or Tebow, Hunter was just a horrible RT and the Jets finally made a good move.

Hunter was pretty bad but what does that say about the back-ups, given that he started for so long?

Sanchez sat pretty behind one of the best OLs in the league for years and never had anything to show for it.

I'm not saying he's a good RT, but changing the pieces around Sanchez until he finally succeeds is a futile effort to mask the real problem. Benching an RT is less of a red mark on the franchise than benching a quarterback (or in this case, say, drafting a new one or trading for a vet). Right now the Jets are basically wasting their time trying to cover up the QB because the head coach's job is dependent on the QB not being perceived as a bust.

As bad as Hunter might be, Sanchez needs to learn how to get the ball out quickly, feel pressure coming and avoid it, or adjust the line.

In other words, Sanchez needs to stop being Sanchez?

Yeah the Jets offense sucks. Their offensive line is pretty good (bar Right Tackle) but other than that they have next to nothing. Holmes can't quit being a [profanity deleted] long enough to be a quality receiver and most of their other skill position players are as talentless as you'll find in the NFL.

Also, the Jets 2008 draft is one of the worst I can remember. Sanchez and Greene.

I've been on record numerous times calling the "new" Jets one of the worst drafters in the league. They haven't hit on almost any of their picks, and Sanchez really doesn't have much to work with. (By the way, that was the 09 draft.)

That said, when you look at the discord in their locker room, it all revolves around Sanchez' inaccuracy. Holmes and Mason were both annoyed enough to anger their coaches and in Mason's case, get kicked off the team. A happy WR group is one that's getting clean targets.

Funny thing is, while Rex did take them to the AFC Title game twice, isn't it funny that Eric Mangini would have had the Jets in a better place right now than Rex if he was never fired.

You don't know if thats true...

I saw on ESPN that Rex said Hunter is like that 6th guy in the NBA coming off the bench. Apparently he can catch? and he can play anywhere on the line. I'm not buying into that.

I think it's true. Mangini built that AFCCG team. Rex Ryan didn't.
But he didn't coach those top defenses that Rex put out..

I just heard on NFL network that Rex said J.O. called him up and said he wanted to come back and play RT for them? I don't know if it was a joke or not, but I thought it was noteworthy lol

Gosh I hope it was a Joke. If he wants to come back and play, please do so! I'll gladly like to see JO come back and play LT for us again kicking Oher over to RT.

So, you weren't insinuating that everyone was to blame for our offensive inefficiencies except Flacco, yet you feel he was/is a key component to that very thought?

Okay, I retract my statement ;)

Sooo guys. Hunter was benched and the receivers were back but the Jets scored no TDs. Guess that was Wayne Hunters fault too
Yep, they even got their starting WR back. Still no TDs even after being placed in the redzone because of turnovers. It's not like Carolina has an elite defense. Captain Mutterlyn has to be one of the worst starting corners in the league. Sanchez had no pressure on him and couldn't move the ball (except for the first two plays). Without Burress as a red-zone target, I think the Jets are realizing they didn't have it so bad last year after all. Sanchez needs a guy he can just throw it up to 1-on-1 because he's not able enough to get the ball into tight spaces consistently.
