Music that makes me cringe..a vent thread

50 posts in this topic

Ok so we decided to take a weekend trip (the old lady and I) to Gettysburg Pa (awesome trip for history nuts like me) and drove her scion instead of my jeep. Normally this is ok on a short trip, but with her driving, she was in control of the radio ALL WEEKEND. It was Sirius Alt Nation 24/7.

Now, I'm a musician. I listen to all different types of music. Some good old southern rock, blues, beatles, led zep, metallica, all the way to all that remains, trivium, killswitch ect.. but whatever it is that I kept hearing on that station all weekend sounded like a musical labotamy of sorts. Dark, monotone, low fi, and just completely deviod of any resembalence of musical talent.

Anyway, not to offend anyone, but just a humble opinion as always

Dubstep? Nicki Minaj? That song about setting the world on fire? That other song about someone you used to know? I can keep going... radio is no longer an option...

I can't stand 90% of what's on the radio anymore anyway. Even some of the bands I liked back in the day have gone "pop". Aside from the crappy music on the radio, everyone has to have their morning talk show these days as well. Just what I want to do, listen to other people talk about nothing all the way to work.

That's why I love carrying around my flash drive, I just plug it in and play. But when the wife is in the car, she can't stand my music. Apparently the Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones, etc. are just not her thing. She'd rather listen to some dude talking about hitting his old lady and carrying her home from the bar after she gets plastered. Yeah, real musical talent.

~ Malkavian Raven
Mrs. American Pie -- music has finally died... cue the fat lady...

I don't hate on all music I don't like because I know some genres are an acquired taste. A lot of my music sure is.

But music that makes the radio is just generic and emotionless. I've noticed that music on radio can be lewd or suggestive, or things of that manner, but not angry or upsetting. Nothing that would incite people to do things or think differently. It has to be something "we can all agree on". For some reason the boundary isn't about being graphic anymore, it's about having an opinion.

If you pay attention to the lyrics on these songs now a days they don't make sense, at all. "Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake!" Seriously?!? The beat isn't that bad, and I guess that's what sells. The lyrics themselves are not only computer generated, they don't make sense! They suck!

BloodRaven - not gonna lie, even with them doing the song as total gibberish, I still wanted to reach though my computer and strangle them. However, it still is a far better version than the original.

I can not stand new rap and what goes for R&B now days. I love all kinds of music-- from 50's (I'm not that old lol), Glenn Miller, Classic rock from the 70's and 80's, Lady Gaga, Hair bands lol-- my problem with today's stuff 90% of it sounds the same.
I used to sing in a concert choir that toured and its really a shame I use all that voice training for yelling at the stadium now. The remake of Forever YoungRemake-- destroyed it Original. This hits me because it was popular when my son graduated and when I graduated and the difference kills me. I do like both versions of Right Round new Original
Why musicians feel the need to cuss every other word confounds me, and there are a couple songs that took lyrics from a couple songs and combined them,

New rap offends me, not because of profanity, but because of how horrible a lot of newer, younger rappers are. Chief Keef is the latest culprit, even though his song is catchy. His music is just pure ignorance and I can't even play it on my show because every other word is a profanity rhymed with another profanity.

It bothers me that a lot of young rappers get signed with little-to-no skill. Many of them don't even attempt to get better and just fade away.

Dude, we just switched to Sirius at work recently. The stations rotate about every 2 hours, and there are certain stations that make me want to jam something in my ears to destroy the ear drum. Some of it is such garbage, I can't even put a genre to it. I can't actually hear the "DJ's" talking, so I'm not sure what station it is. Probably the one you were stuck with.
Any captured spies should be subject to this trash. They'd be talking in no time!!!

I'll second that one too! I actually had a conversation with the lady while we were on said journey about rap. Now, I've never been a HUGE rap fan, but someone next to us at a red light was blasting some new rap right in our ears, and we were both like why can't rap be like it used to? I had respect for it as a musical art when most of the songs at least had some sort of overall theme or meaning.

Anything by Lady Gaga, Train, Adele, Rhianna, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, or most 'rappers'.

*I do like a lot of rap, including but not limited to, Kanye West, JayZ, and Common.

Bieber, Jonas Brothers, and Hanna Montana are out of the question. I'll also never turn on a country station lol

Alt nation is hit or miss. I lile some of the music, but some is awful. I prefee Lithium for the most part, but it can get old as well.

Music I hate...that horrendous call me maybe song, bieber, katy perry, most hip-hop these days.

I pretty much just stream Pandora now because its everything i choose.

Rick Ross. I cannot stand that dude. Lil wayne,Big sean,Minaj, and other rappers like Lil B and 2chains that I hope nobody has ever heard of.

The only bits of rap I like is 90's, eminem and a little bit of Jcole.

2Chains is one of the two worst of the current rappers right now, tied with Lil Wayne who has gone completely into garbage territory.

Daughters by Nas is about the only hip hop song in recent months that has given me hope for the future.

stuff that makes me cringe, Marlyn manson, hanson, anything with a voice normalizer, anything with a hideous message ( rape murder encouraged drug use) its not so much the music its the message , especialy when I hear some kid blasting it by a elementary school. music that has no actual meaning or is made just for money has not purpose on the airwaves. as a poet myself I prefer music that either Conveys a Message worth hearing and is well produced to music put out for shock value and portraying a negative life style as cool or ones with words that mean nothing because they are made up
