This works out two ways.
1. Cary plays awful and we bring him back at less money or he tests the market and someone overpays him or
2. He plays incredibly well and earns a good paycheck for the next few years.

I have a feeling Jimmy Smith will become the #2 if he can stay healthy and Cary is down to #3.

As I thought, this will most likely be Cary's last year in Baltimore. Even if we paid him 5 million/year or so, that might be too much. If we pay him that, we might have to get rid of someone else. Besides, we have enough young talent at corner as it is.

Our CBs next year are probably going to be Webb, Jimmy, Ajax, Brown, with the possible inclusion of Graham.

I wouldnt say Cary playing awful is something we wanna see. But its crazy to think he came here and was given a shot. Now he had a pretty ok season and is a diva all the sudden. Im sure the Ravens FO were scratching there heads. Coming off an injury and we are willing to extend YOU before REED. Then you proceed to decline? Man better hope he doesnt have a career ender because his family is going to scrape by on his 2 million.

lol I was thinking the same thing; he came off from a practice squad and was given opportunity to shine; it's not like he was high draft pick or something.

I'll take that 2mil...:P

Don't forget, we could very well draft another corner since our FO hasn't been shy about drafting corners lately.

We could, but I doubt we take one in the earlier rounds. We have a lot of picks - one of them is bound to be a corner, but I'd expect him to be a ST-only guy the year we take him.

I think Webb and Smith at starter with Ajax the nickel and Graham the dime is a really great setup as it is.

Oh Foxy didn't scam anyone. He just got a big contract because he was the best player on the market. He was playing well until he got injured.
This, coupled with the fact that when we were looking to sign Foxworth, he was arguably 5x better than what we currently had on the roster (Fabian Washington, Frank Walker, Corey Ivy, etc). Now look how flush with talent we are at the position.

Maybe, just maybe, he made an incredibly honorable choice of not taking the money because he knew there might be a possibility of disappointing literally everyone including himself. Maybe he didn't want to have that stigma following him. So just maybe he, very unselfishly and very bravely, took the warrior's path, wanting to prove himself and truly earn his keep.

He'll play to the best of his ability, and if he's worth it, we'll pay him. If his play disappoints, we can't hold too much against him. He didn't take the money, we all are lead to believe that Jimmy Smith is the better defender (remains to be seen), and he and everyone else is at peace with his role on the team.

I like this possibility, and I won't go along with the media saying "he shoulda taken the money"

No, he's not taking the money because there's a possibility of making more money. It's hard to disagree with that when you're a guy who struggled to get into the NFL and might be out of the league before you get a second contract.

I would want to hear him take the contract because of a loyalty to the team, but how loyal are you supposed to be when half the fans call you out for a preseason game?

I don't blame him to be honest. If it were me, would I have taken the money? Absolutely. However, it's quite obvious that the future here is Webb and Jimmy. He could make some good money here and be a 3rd CB, or he could go to a CB starved team, make better money, and start. Is it risky? Absolutely, and not something that I would choose.

Lol NFL is the no loyalty league. Fans are funny when they say what a guy should do as if he owes it to the team. Let Cary have hurt his back and they cut him. Where is the teams loyalty. I'm always for guys getting more money and like I said with Ben Grubbs. Someone will pay him and give him more money. We don't know how much the guar money was. Were all three years guar. or was just the first? We don't know how the neg. went. I can see the Colts, Chiefs, Lions, and maybe 4 other teams paying Cary 4 years 25 mil. That is the chance he is taking and I can't blame him for it

He seems very confident in his ability to land a big contract. I like that! He will be playing at a high level to earn that payday for him and his family.

If we lose him, oh well, best of luck to him and he will deserve whatever contract he gets. We will have Chykie Brown and Asa Jackson with Danny Gorrer in the mix.

It's smart on his part he knows that smith is waiting in wings to be a starter. I don't blame him why tie yourself to a team that is grooming someone to take your spot? I wouldn't be shocked if he leaves after this year.

Although i think Cary is a pretty dam good CB, that was pretty dumb on Cary's part. But hey, it might work out in our Favor. He might play better because he is working for a big Pay day. It might come back to bite him in the butt though.
I agree, have a feeling that this will work out in our favor, at least for this year. Now he will be forced to step up if he wants that big contract offer.

That was a very generous offer. I don't think he'll get anything better.
But if Cary thinks something else is better for his career, but then by all means he has the right to do it.

Cary needs to go out to the field everyday and catch at least a thousand ball from a ball machine if he wants to soften his brick-hands...

I think it's a very bad idea to turn down a 15mil deal; his agent gets paid from certain percentage so the bigger the contract the richer his agent is.....

PS: I even think 15mil/3yr is a little too much for Cary...

Yes, but percentages are proportional. Cary would receive a larger portion as well. 50% of 18 million is more than 50% of 15 million. While his agent would be richer, so would Cary.

The only reason it was a bad decision is that it's probably the best deal he's going to get.

I think so too unless Daniel Snyder disagrees about this.....

His tackles better be less (meaning less catches from WRs) and his INTs better be around 7-10 for us to pay a 28 year old CB a lot of money.

Personally, I'm glad he declined. I was surprised by the lofty numbers. I remember Josh Wilson signing with the Redskins for a lesser deal after a much better season. It was a little early for Williams. It's all on him now. He'll get to prove where he belongs.
