Yup, the oline lost 6 of them and he compounded it by moving backwards after first contact. Not really his fault.
It was a toss play and the cb was in there as well as the de and lb the second pierce caught the ball pretty much. Online and WRs lost all of them lol

After reading this thread, I'd say that consensus lies with Pierce receiving a workload that would reduce the amount of carries Ray Rice is given.

When it comes to Pierce, I am a huge activist for his ability to earn his spot as our number two RB based on two things: He seems to be the best backup when it comes to blocking, and he also will vital in that his yards per carry will be up there (mostly due to his size and strength). Also, he has some good height to him which will be big if he is to run behind big man Leach.

But back to the number of carries. For Rice, what do people think the impact amount of carries Ray has is on the numbers he's putting up. If we want to keep him fresh as some say, will he still be able to put up the numbers he does if he is not touching the ball in the backfield 25+ times?

I'm really excited about Bernard Pierce. I've been saying since we drafted him he has a ton of talent and will be the #2. He can at minimum do what Ricky did last year and maybe even more. It cant hurt to lessen Rice's workload a bit to keep him fresh all season. I have a good feeling about our offense this year.

My thoughts prezactly!

He did pretty well last year.............

I think the consensus is that 20+ per game is the number. Also, I think the "new" threats in the passing game will make the running a little easier.

I called Pierce our "worst" pick in terms of value, but only because I was so high on our other picks. He looked good out there. Raw, but definitely good. If you take out the bad play call and look at his actual "runs", he had 3 attempts for 15 yards against the Lions' first team. Also had a nice fingertip catch and run that got erased by penalty, but I think he was in the wrong position, which made the catch more difficult than it should have been.

He has the backup job pretty much guaranteed. I like him.

Huge penetration from the detroit D and he tried to escape going backwards. Didn't matter though, face mask penalty on the play.
Fair enough. Anyway, I'm glad he impressed. With Allen struggling in pass protection, he should wrap up the backup job fairly soon.

We have two more games to see how this pans out. Yes Pierce looks good and has done well. He needs to keep it up and AA to not improve. I know better and AA will improve and make those nay sayers eat their words. I wish them both the best and keep chopping to be better. For the team can use two large bruisers behind Rice and a defense will have to game play against. The fast offense also helps in that there will be matchup problems.

Wish I could see highlights of Pierce's positive plays. How did lose 14 yards on one run though?
The oline collapsed and B.P tried to run to the outside but there were like 4 or 5 defenders,he made a few guys miss but when he was making them miss he was going backwards. He almost got away but a guy wrapped around his leg and by then there were too many Lions there. Hope that gave some kind of visual.

I felt exactly the same, i was p.o.ed because i thought we already had enough RBs and watching his highlights in they gave during the draft didn't give me that WOW factor and i thought it was a waste of a draft pick considering we had more needs in other positions but now, im kinda glad. One reason is because dude can play and another is our RB depth isn't what i thought it was. I was really high on A.Allen but now i see why he wasn't used last yr.

I see our RB line up as this,

Rice
Pierce
Rainey
Berry

As it stand now, i see Berry being a huge return guy, same with Rainey

I see Pierce having a big role this yr, he is a completely different back than Rice ( in a good way ). Pierce is a very nice surprise, i know i said this like 10x already but he reminds me of Adrian Peterson alot.
And lets be honest, Rice struggled bad just trying to get a first down when it was 3rd and less than 1 yd on multiple occasions.
I think it would be nice to work them both in because Defenses would struggle having to defend against 2 different running styles, i think the D would struggle to keep up. Especially with a hurry up offense, that i really, really hope we stick with.

I really hope Cam doesn't go back to his old ways, i think Flacco would be very Vocal if that would happen.
He reminds me more of Foster. He's a one cut runner and will thrive in our revamped zone blocking scheme with Leach paving the way :)

I don't see Allen making the team, he just doesn't bring enough to the table Pierce runs better, Rainey was impressive and Berry can get on ST.

AA is gone. I seem to remember getting into it with someone on this board about AA's pass protection, and that's what ultimately will cost him his spot. Not to mention he looked terrible running and receiving.
I think Berry goes back on PS and Rainey and Pierce will be the back ups. Rainey has added value for the return game as well. We won't be cutting him.
WR is going to be interesting as well. I think Thompson has looked a lot better then Streeter, but I dont think Tommy will clear waivers to go on the PS... So who's the odd man out? Doss? He can't stay healthy and dosen't contribute on Special Teams. Or do we do the unthinkable and keep 7 WRs?

Lets talk about our RBs,

Man, i had no idea how good Pierce was, really reminds me of A.P, dude is hard to bring down. For someone as tall as him, he sure is elusive and makes people miss, it looks like he does it with ease too.

Also, i love this kid Rainey, reminds me of Rice when Rice was a Rookie and he was smaller.

I like Rainey because he is a tiny bit taller than Rice and less bulky which is kinda good in way because he is more elusive and imo has more of a burst than Rice, which is saying alot. He also waits for holes to open up, very patient.

We have 3 solid RBs alone with those guys, and lets not forget about Berry who i feel has great potential.
I don't know if were going to be able to keep 4 RBs (Berry) . But hopefully we keep Berry for SP.Teams, he has potential to be a dangerous returner also.

I think A.Allen is the odd man out, which is sad because i was very vocal about him getting reps in regular season games but after watching him Run (which was nonexistent) and more important imo was his horrible pass blocking. He almost got Flacco killed in the ATL game.

Side note - was anyone else kid of in shock to see Webb out there returning kicks, WTH.

Wow, really? Adrian Peterson is widely the best running back in football. There's no way Pierce even begins to compare to him! Peterson is a perfect combination of speed and power. And he's a freak of nature. I don't think a FCS running back with zero regular season carries even compares to him.

Are you new here? The trolls roam rampantly throughout the preseason. They thin out when the regular season begins, but some return at the first sight of trouble.

But AP started way ahead of almost all runningbacks. I actually thought that Pierce was compared to Adrian Foster because he has great vision, patience and has a great cutback!

Hopefully the Rain Train makes it. I dont see how AA will make it at this point. Like many of you have said, his pass protection is just bad. And then obviously Pierce and Rice make it. and Berry goes on the PS.

Pierce really impressed me tonight. He's got a bit of power in him. He's explosive and runs behind his pads. He also impressed me with his blocking ability tonight. I'm glad we traded up for him. I questioned it at the time, even after seeing his tape, but I love that move now.

Berry and Rainey were also pretty impressive. If we keep three, though, I think Berry is the odd man out. I wouldn't rule out keeping four backs. Rainey and Berry can both contribute on special teams.

I can't wait until Pierce hits the weight room hard throughout the year. He's a quick and strong back who does a great job falling forward. With some more added strength, he can be a real problem for defenses when he's spelling rice. A lot of people have been comparing him to Ap and foster (which is who I initially thought he reminded me) but he reminds me a lot of mcgahee. He just needs to keep getting stronger in order for his power to be optimized

Anybody who knows anything at all about Pierce can tell you that he is far and away the most talented back we have behind Rice. Stop acting surprised people ... would have sucked to lose Rice, but had he left, I would have been perfectly happy with Pierce as our starter.

Very observant. A rookie doesn't stack up to a HOF player .... who woulda thought!!

Or maybe he was just pointing out similarities in their running styles?
