Who is Excited about our RBs

68 posts in this topic

Lets talk about our RBs,

Man, i had no idea how good Pierce was, really reminds me of A.P, dude is hard to bring down. For someone as tall as him, he sure is elusive and makes people miss, it looks like he does it with ease too.

Also, i love this kid Rainey, reminds me of Rice when Rice was a Rookie and he was smaller.

I like Rainey because he is a tiny bit taller than Rice and less bulky which is kinda good in way because he is more elusive and imo has more of a burst than Rice, which is saying alot. He also waits for holes to open up, very patient.

We have 3 solid RBs alone with those guys, and lets not forget about Berry who i feel has great potential.
I don't know if were going to be able to keep 4 RBs (Berry) . But hopefully we keep Berry for SP.Teams, he has potential to be a dangerous returner also.

I think A.Allen is the odd man out, which is sad because i was very vocal about him getting reps in regular season games but after watching him Run (which was nonexistent) and more important imo was his horrible pass blocking. He almost got Flacco killed in the ATL game.

Side note - was anyone else kid of in shock to see Webb out there returning kicks, WTH.

only shot allen had at making this team was to become a shot yardage/ goaline back but I dont think hes got it
He's the only Special Teamer out of the bunch as well.

Pass protection... Whoever gets that down gets spot #2
I was really hoping Allen could do that because he's the most physical specimen. Him and kindle have been such a disappointment.

Rainey, like O.Brown, has impressed now for 2 games in a row. If these 2 don't make the team it will be a real head-scratcher.
I think you can lock them Both in, id put money on it.

O.Brown literally came out of no where ( he is like Ed Reed in a way, he is always in the right place at the right time), Ravens do get some bad luck. But when we finally get a break and something goes our way, Man it really goes our way.

Then you can cut A.Allen out right now. He almost got Joe killed in the ATL. game. That was it for me and i was a big Allen fan. Now i see why the Coaches weren't giving him any reps.

I think a RB that can Block is more important now, especially with the direction this Offense is going ( which i might add and say, FINALLY!!!!)

Does anyone really see the rb2 making any type of impact? i know its always good to have a back up, but i dont see them contributing much considering rice is a 20+ carry a game back, well he should be getting the ball 20 times every game. I know ricky williams contributed nicely, but i dont think one of these guys is going to have the same type of role.

Our RBs have always been and will always be awesome.
Out of Everything that is going on with this team, im the most excited for the High Octane Offense and hurry up more than anything.

Our Hurry up offense, if you want to call it that last yr was horrid. It was most evident in the Titans Game. lol, i was raging. They took over 8 mins off the clock in the 4th quarter when we needed to Scores.

I see Pierce having a big role this yr, he is a completely different back than Rice ( in a good way ). Pierce is a very nice surprise, i know i said this like 10x already but he reminds me of Adrian Peterson alot.
And lets be honest, Rice struggled bad just trying to get a first down when it was 3rd and less than 1 yd on multiple occasions.
I think it would be nice to work them both in because Defenses would struggle having to defend against 2 different running styles, i think the D would struggle to keep up. Especially with a hurry up offense, that i really, really hope we stick with.

I really hope Cam doesn't go back to his old ways, i think Flacco would be very Vocal if that would happen.

Good points. Yea rice did struggle when we needed a yard or so, leach would of been better in those situations. I think its obvious rice is best in open space so it would be nice to have back that can punch it through. I honestly havent watched enough this preaseason, how is his pass catching skills?

I like Pierce more than I thought I would when we drafted him. Seemed shifty and broke some tackles. The way he ran with the football in his hands reminded me of Adrian Peterson.

Who??? Pierce?, Honestly, i don't think they dumped off to him. I think they did once and there were like 4 or 5 defenders all around him, but he made like 3 guys miss and it took all of them to bring him down. Thats why i was so impressed with him, the defender had to wrap his arms around his one leg and he still got out of it but by then there were 3 other guys jumping on him.

LOLOL, That is exactly how i thought. When i was watching the Draft and they were showing the highlights of him, i wasn't impressed at all. I was actually kind of mad thinking it was a wasted draft pick.

Oh and i said the same thing in my other post about him reminding me of A.P, i think i say it everytime i talk about Pierce now.

Gone are the days of Rice & the McBacks (McGahee & McClain). Leach was a great pick-up, but we still haven't found that downhill runner that just bursts through the line of scrimmage for a quick first down. I'm hoping one of these backs can be that guy. Right now, Pierce seems to be the one making a case. Sure, he had a 14-yard loss on one play but only because he was trying to make something positive out of a horrible situation. I can't fault the guy for his tenacity. He's fighting for a job. Sometimes desire makes you do crazy things, like run 14-yards in the wrong direction.

Seriously though, I'm hoping one of these guys can be our '3rd & Short' back.

Spent all last season wanting to see AA in garbage time and then looking forward to seeing him this pre-season
I talked him up plenty of times

There was a roster spot for the taking and he has blown it
What a disappointment

I'm really excited about Bernard Pierce. I've been saying since we drafted him he has a ton of talent and will be the #2. He can at minimum do what Ricky did last year and maybe even more. It cant hurt to lessen Rice's workload a bit to keep him fresh all season. I have a good feeling about our offense this year.

Seriously, Pierce is a beast - exactly what we need to spell lil' Ray, a totally different style to keep the D's on their toes.
Also, I'm over the moon about this kid Rainey. Love how we can find these undrafted free agents, total gems out of nowhere - really rooting for LaQuan this year, too

I really love Pierce, especially as a goal-line back. I definitely think if we ran the same series against Houston with Pierce, he would have had that TD - Rice just isn't big enough for those situations. Pierce will be that perfect compliment to Ray, IMO. Bobby Rainey has also been very impressive. I'm just a bit miffed with AA, I was hoping to see something out of him, and I hate to waste draft picks.

Wish I could see highlights of Pierce's positive plays. How did lose 14 yards on one run though?
Huge penetration from the detroit D and he tried to escape going backwards. Didn't matter though, face mask penalty on the play.

Yup, the oline lost 6 of them and he compounded it by moving backwards after first contact. Not really his fault.

I have not been overly impressed except for Rainey in the Falcons games. I was hoping we could find a punishing back who could smashmouth through on short yardage to compliment Rice. I thought AA may have been close to that but I have lost the faith and I am not 100% sold on Pierce yet but Friday was only his first game. I guess we can always hand it off to Leach for a couple of inches if need be.

I think the RB situation has become one of the more exciting contest of the preseason. So far Pierce, Rainey and Berry have impressed. Allen ran well but his blocking and catching has been sub par.
