One thing I will say is our offense will be much better this year. The ravens are gonna put up points. Which will help our defense, but this is just my opinion. We all will see this year. lets gO raveNs!!

Cary Williams is overrated. Otherwise, my answer is no.
Overrated how? He's underrated by many, not even on the radar by many analysts. But still he held his ground last season. Coming off surgery and injury i expect to have another solid season from him especially when we rotate. Our DB's are young, but getting better.
Trust in them..

Cary will get that with time you gotta understand it was basically like he was a rookie last year since he hadnt got any real game time until then. Think we could still have Washington, Foxworth, and that Frank something guy i tried so hard to never ever remeber again.

I'll take Fabian Washington over Cary Williams anyday.
Cary got a fair amount of playing time in 2010 plus a tiny bit in 2009. He got a chance to learn from vets since 2008 so really he was not a rookie last year. Think of him as a second-year player in 2011 after a little bit of playing time the previous year. Williams should have performed better.
Is he big? Yeah. Is he physical? Yeah. Does he deflect a lot of passes? Yeah.
Does he get interceptions? No. Can he blitz? No. Does he consistenly get burned on deep routes? Hell yeah.

Jimmy Smith-15/33, 45.5%, 215 Yards, 55 YAC, 3 TDs, 2 int, 8 PD, 72.2 QB Rating (172 Snaps in Coverage)

Cary Williams- 54/101, 53.5%, 794 Yards, 207 YAC, 4 TDs, 0 Int, 13 PD, 92.6 QB Rating (539 Snaps in Coverage)

Lardarius Webb- 49/85, 57.6%, 585 Yards, 162 YAC, 0 TDs, 5 INT, 18 PD, 54.3 QB Rating (520 Snaps in Coverage)

If you take out a couple of blown coverages, from ed and cary (ed had over the top on a couple plays i distinctly remember and blew his coverage) carys stats would be considerably better. Even still, 50% and 4 TDs is not bad. Yards in this day and age dont mean anything, its all about points, and he only gave up 4 TDs. Thats pretty damn good.

We're a very deep unit but definitely overrated, everyone overachieved to some degree last season.
I don't see how anyone overachieved last season.

Webb has flashed good all-around play and play-abilities since his rookie year. Jimmy showed why he was considered the draft's most talented CB after Patrick Peterson in limited action. Williams showed his inexperience and was worked quite often by WRs. I think we can all agree Ed under-achieved and Pollard was solid.

I don't think so, as long as we have a good front 7 , we will play just as good if not better. Heck alot of times, our secondary bailed us out.
The one game that comes to mind that our Defense just stunk was against the Titans, too many quick releases.

Pollard to me came out of no where, i had no idea he was that good. The Texans were dumb to let him go. Or maybe he is a product of our system. I'd say both, i love how physical he is. He isn't afraid to tackle. Webb got more physical last season too, now that was a great surprise.

Gotta agree, i think Ed was trying to make some plays but he should have " babysat " Williams in a game where he was getting targeted more. I remember last season yelling at the t.v saying why isn't someone with Cary, he is getting beat and yet our Safeties aren't there to help. But usually when Cary got burned, he played better the rest of that game.

I think Cary is underrated , he is better than people think. Do they forget about Washington,Walker , heck even Carr didn't play well last season.

That's huge. We now have our best offensive and best defensive players under contract for quite a while. I still think we lost enough in the offseason though that I'm worried we'll make it past the Steelers. The offense should actually be above average, but the D has me concerned losing JJ, Redding and Zibby, and we don't know if Ed and Ray will hold up (or even show up, in Ed's case).

In any case I guess this is a dual-purpose thread. Now that the offseason has basically concluded (50 days from today till the start of the regular season), what are your thoughts/predictions for this year and what do you think will happen with Flacco's negotiations now that Rice is signed?

Sure he was nothing special and had trouble on the deep routes, but he was no worse than Cary Williams.
And by 40 times, I'm assuming you are counting the times I've stuck my neck out for Fabian, right?

Fabian had trouble with all routes.

And by 40 times, 'dizze and I mean that Fabian is faster than Cary, but by no means is he better.

The only terrible game that I can remember Fabian having was in 2010 against Buffalo. I'm sure I can count more than that for Cary.
give it a shot, 4TDs with an avergae of seven per attempt is solid no.2 CB numbers. Very Solid indeed

Hum, a good bit of dislikes for the OP of this thread but I do agree with him. There is a lot of hype for the DB's this year but I don't see the improvement from last year or the years in the past. Matt Ryan had a field day last Thursday and the Raven's corners better get better or it will be long season for us fans.

Cary Williams had similar numbers against Tennessee. Williams just gets burned.
Washington wasn't to great, but I'd rather have someone give up a few slants (I now remember more slants than deep route trouble) than 4 or 5 deep bombs a year, plus other slants.
At least Fabian knew that you had to turn around to have a shot at breaking up the play.

I'm curious. What team is Fabian on? What was his passing defense ranked last year? Did he even start?

Edit: Actually, don't tell me. He was out with an injury last year after being signed to a one year deal with the Saints. He's currently a free agent. What does this tell you? We released Fabian, kept Cary, and now Fabian is a free agent at the start of camp. Most of the time, if you're a free agent at the start of camp, nobody wants you.
