Anyone think our secondary is overrated?

Who's to say at this point? Besides, Jimmy Smith didn't play in the first game. Either way I think it's definitely the strength of this team.

you aren´t top 3 after one year of production. revise is a shutdown corner for 5 years now.
aso is also better in my eyes because he was a standout performer on a weak team (raiders)
asante samuel is also a beast.
DRC has to be in the mix.
patrick peterson is very good as well.
joe hyden is one of the best, too.

he could become top three if he continues to perform on a high level over the next three years...

don´t get me wrong i love my webb. but greatness comes with time...

What are you talking about, One year, Webb has been producing since his rookie yr. Revis gets away with everything, nuff said. No wonder why everyone thinks he is the best. I would be too if i was hanging on a WR the whole time. I have the clip when the JETS played the Dolphins to prove it and thats just one game. I usually only record RAVENS clips but i was just amazed how Revis got away with P.I.s that i decided to record it and upload it to my computer. Everyone in the media will even say it, im just hoping the new Refs won't put up with it and play Favortism.

I love how some people have such a short memory on Williams, sorry but i have every game from last yr. Did Williams get burned a few times last yr, Yes, every CB will. Did Webb, maybe once but that doesnt mean Williams is bad, it just means Webb is a beast.

Also, when Cary got burned in a game, it rarely happened again for the rest of that game.

Plain and simple, Cary made more plays than he F ed up. Nuff said. He does play the Wr and not the Ball but so what, he did get an int. last yr but it was called back because of a Flag, that wasn't his fault.

Anytime you tell the world that you're the best at anything, when you haven't performed at a level to back it up, I'm going to consider you to be overrated. If Webb had called the secondary "top five", or "one of the NFL's best", then he would have a point, because they've performed at a top five level, but calling yourself the best when you don't have the stats to back it yet seems a little cocky.
Just curious, when did WEBB say he was the best???

Webb went up against the Best Wrers and came out on top everytime without the help of the Refs, thats pretty good in my book

Both Webb and Cary gave up receptions. Webb doesn't have to fight for a roster spot, so what does he care about preseason? I think Cary got taken by surprise. It was his first action since coming off the injury list and he probably didn't expect them to come out slinging the ball with that caliber receiver/QB duo. He's come a long way in a short time - being a special-teams only 7th round pick who was cut 2 years ago by the Titans. I see no reason why he can't improve. But he'll have to to keep his roster spot. If Cary only plays like he did last year he will probably be replaced by Smith on 2 WR downs.

Yea, let's see how Webb does this upcoming season and being elite does come with time. There have been plenty of players in the league that has had a great season or two but it takes longevity to be considered elite. Think about Cromartie years back when he had that great season and look at him now. I don't say the same faith lies with Webb but let's give it a little time before we crown him.

I want Webb on him. Webb played well against Andre Johnson, who is built similarly to Megatron.

Well I hope Cary can get healthy because Jimmy left practice again today
That's disappointing. Was it his back again?

Unless Jimmy can get right, it'll have to be Cary. The D will need Webb's shiftiness to stick with Burleson and Young.

Question: Who was sticking Kenny Britt last year? because i think that is the only reciever that really tore up our starting secondary... (though if Jimmy were healthy he coulda hung with him, same with Julio Jones last week)

I think our db's are a overrated by the media, fans, and players this year. I still think they will be very good, but I do not trust Cary Williams to stop getting beat deep.If hes not getting beat deep he gives Wr's like 8 yards of cushion on the line of scrimmage so he can get beat underneath. Webb will be solid as usual, Ed is getting older, Pollard is known for hitting not coverage, and Jimmy smith isn't proven. I like Danny Gorrer in the slot but I don't think our pass rush will be nearly as good as last year, which will cost our cb's even moRe.

Thoughts?
They are not overrated but are more venerable early due to the pass rush weakness.Hopefully, the pass rush gets better!

Together, VJax and Floyd had a field day on us also. But again, we're talking a rookie D-Coordinator and young CBs playing 2 6'5" receivers.
So true, i was at the game sadly lol. We didn't have L. Webb against San Diego. They killed Jimmy Smith in that one.

I didn't know the thought of our secondary being a little overrated would offend people.looOOl
They aren't offended. They're dumbfounded that someone would make a judgment on the secondary after the first preseason game in which one member of the secondary had a not-so-good showing.

Not really, no. Although it doesn't much matter to me what Webb says, or how cocky he is as long as the secondary performs as the best in the league. If the secondary comes out to play against Detroit, then I'll happily recant my opinion. but until the secondary performs, I'll have to say that Webb is overrating it.
Since we have yet to play a regular season game (I highly doubt anyone is silly enough to form an opinion on a single preseason game), the only facts we have to base our opinion on is last season, and last year they were an elite group. Logically we can assume they will be even better this season with Cary and Jimmy getting playing time under their belts plus a full off season. In my opinion, Webb is spot on.

I wrote what I think will happen this season, based on the pass rush I think we will be missing without suggs, Never trusting some of our Db's and our schedule this season. Last year we were 3rd in sacks I believe, I don't think we will be nearly as good at getting to the Qb until suggs comes back. That directly affects the secondary. Including this tough schedule of good offenses, I hope I'm wrong tho.

Well then, you're basing your opinion off of conjecture, and blasting Webb for basing his opinion on grandeur / cockiness....

Interesting...

Anyone think our fans are overrated? They tend to think the sky is falling when our D loses out on 1 series (not a game mind you, a series) in a preseason game in which not all of the vets played. Then our offense sputters for a series or two before getting going (when its starting 2 rookies on the o line). All in all it seems like some of you have never watched this team before. The offense can sputter at times, but eventually gets it done. As for the D, you have to be kidding me. Our unit consistently ranks at the top of the league every year with a new D coordinator every year it seems.
