K-Dog

The origin of the Ray Lewis dance

37 posts in this topic

I suspect most people have abandoned that other Ray Lewis dance thread ( with good reason ) and vowed to never return.

So I am starting a new thread to see if any one knows when Ray Lewis FIRST did his iconic dance and when did it become a regular every introduction thing.

I tried wikki but to no avail.
Some one here really should know I would think...

Legend has it that upon birth he came out the womb dancing.

I thought it was Big Bens chest cavity.

Wasn't the 1st time Ray did the dance was at the Super Bowl? I believe it was one of his childhood friends who used to do it and Ray wanted to pay homage to his friends.

This is the answer, it was either his mom or his grandmother. It's a video of him and his mom talking about how he grew up as the man of the house and so on. I'll try to find it again.

Here's the answer I remember: http://www.channelone.com/video/the-pre-game-dance/

It starts at 30 seconds. Ray and his childhood friend used to do the "squirrel dance". One day, he did the squirrel dance for his friend and then he couldn't stop.

He did that dance for the Baltimore Ravens way back in 1996, if I'm correct.

Like I stated earlier, pretty sure Ray didn't come out as a rookie doing this dance.

He said he got his "dance moves" from the momma/gmomma.. but the intro dance came from his friend that used to do the same dance.

Actually Ray used to be part of a Break dancing/Dance crew. Ray has said he has footage of him when he was kid dancing but it will never see the light of day and i think it has the same dance or something like it that the current one originated from.

You are correct, Ray said he was going to do it as a joke to his buddy because they said he wouldn't do it and it just stuck and turned into its own monster

I think it would be awesome when our team blazing out through the tunnel and starting to dance the Ray Lewis' moves...

It would be very intimidating to the opposing team cuz they have to deal with the whole Ray Lewis clones.....lol..
Thanks a lot! Once I got to watching the video I was riveted till the end - not surprising at all considering it was Ray Lewis!

No, Ray has mentioned it was his friend growing up (like another poster stated) but there is also a video where he says he learned to acne from his mother.

Open letter from the originator of the " Is it time to end the "Dance"? " thread

Hello and thank you Ravens fans. I’m just returning from my self-imposed two week ban from posting in this forum. During this self-imposed ban I have come to realized the magnitude of my error in judgment. As an official card carry member of the purple nation (really I have a card), I should have never posed the question of whether or not Ray’s dance should end. I now classify this as the biggest mistake I have made in my many many years of existence. I want to take this time to official apology to the purple nation for any discomfort anyone may have experienced from my appalling post. I ask for forgiveness. I would like to be reinstated as a full member of the purple nation. I know I must earn this position and will work to do so. I was thinking that one way I could regain the respect of the nation is to travel to Pittsburg again this year. However, this time I will not only wave the Ray Lewis jersey…no that’s not enough…this time I will burn one of those stupid yellow towels in the middle of downtown Pittsburg. I may not come home alive, but if this is what I need to do to regain the respect of my peers then I will do it. I do have a family, so if I don’t make it back I would appreciate it if the nation could pitch in and help take care of my family.

Long live the Ray Lewis dance!!!
