Madden 13 Demo Available

Like some of you, I'm leaning towards not getting it. I've bought Madden for years, but I might just skip this one entirely. When developers pump out new toys, it's usually not going to be refined when it first comes out.

was that not the same case as last year? Do you mean if you bring reed up to LOS, then change to Ray, reed walks back to his safety position?
I haven't tried safety's. I know last year I could move my olbs closer to the Los and they would stay there, and now they dont.
When I use the qb spy audiable it lags instead of give yyou full control like last years would.

Maybe they're trying to stop nano blitzes? I don't know.

The only 'nano' I knew how to do, (I think it was a nano, I came up with it myself) was the blitz play 'crossfire'. I would move my OLBs inside between the DE's and DT's, and then bullrush the DE's. It didn't always work but now I cant even attempt it.

Honestly, I'm most likely sticking to Madden 12 but if I want to play Madden 13, I'll just keep playing the demo lol.

never thought about that til you brought it up. because on the offensive side of the ball i noticed they also removed outside slants (hot routes) because they were cheesed and overused a lot in the past

I wish they would stop changing the kicking man. I thought last years was good.

I was never great at getting sacks, but in this one I've only got like 4 sacks maybe through like 12 games. The QB releases it so fast. Maybe because I'm changing my strategy on this one, and starting with all madden rather then all pro. But even on All Pro it's really hard.

I wish they could allow you to pick 4 teams you want for the demo instead of getting stuck with 4 nfc teams.

I actually really enjoyed the demo. I usually don't worry about most of the stuff that has been said. But i know people like JO and Franchise like their franchises really realistic, so i understand where you're coming from.

Played it four times, once with each team on each difficult level. Here is my overall opinion: worth the rental for the full-version.

The difficulty settings were realistically set. In the past, rookie was entirely too easy (even my six-year-old could beat it by just randomly hitting buttons) and All-Madden not impossible, but dang near. Seems they have finally got those to tolerable settings.

On offense, I felt the running was always the best option simply because open field tacking by the CPU took several hits to bring me down. Also on offense, I noticed that if you "fake pump" one receiver and throw to another, it will work more than it should. I scored three TDs in the first quarter using this method with the SF 49ers (Davis is a beast!).

On defense, the open field tackling needs repaired. Lynch isn't a slouch, but I don't see him breaking five tackles on a 20-yard pick-up either. As others have mentioned previously, trying to position a defender elsewhere and then selecting a different defender -- the original defender moves back to his original position. Probably to prevent nano-blitzing, but with the way the Giants O-line played on this game -- I'm surprised Patrick Willis didn't break Eli in half (7 sacks, OUCH!).

On special teams, it's nice to actually return a punt. And on field goals, in the past you didn't even really need to move the positional arrow to get it to go in. So, just testing it out, I was on the right hash mark and kept the arrow straight... I missed. YAY! I hit the pole, but I missed. Lastly on special teams, I felt the power gauge wasn't as smooth as it was in the past. It kind of had a "stop and go" feel to it, making it hard to reach max power. Intentional? Possibly.

Aside from that, the only other problems I had out of it were some goofy animations with individual players or coaches. I had one instance where it actually had Alex Smith pulled up doing a kick-off. I had one defensive play that the receiver actually fell over his own teammate to end the play. And there was the one instance, after the pile got broken up, one of the players got up to and stepped over the ball carrier and tripped and fell back down... quite humorous.

Lastly, if Matt Flynn plays like he did on this game -- the Seahawks are in a for another miserable season.

So again, this will definitely be worth a rental to see if it is truly fixed or not. So there, I've got one foot off the bandwagon.

I'm enjoying the more realistic feel to the physics in the demo, but I can't help but think that with all the new features it's effectively a paid-for Beta of Madden 14.

I'd be dumbfounded if they had every new feature working as intended, given EA's track record.

So what exactly are the kicking controls now?
X-Box is the right joystick. You move it down and then flick up.

The PS3 allows you to press the R3 button (right joystick) to change it over to the classic double-tapping of the "X" button. Check to see if the X-Box has this option as well.

That's what put me on the fence about the game, too. The fact that you can't do something as simple as edit jersey numbers is a huge deal-breaker for me. EA Sports tried to say that they took out player-editing because it would mess with the AI logic in Connected Careers -- but what does editing NUMBERS or EQUIPMENT have to do with the AI at all?????

I take Franchise Mode seriously, and quite frankly, I can't stand the thought of some draft bust wearing #52 after Ray Lewis retires. Even worse, I can't stand the thought of an offensive lineman wearing #52 if they run out of numbers on the OL.
This is where I'll probably draw the line this time. I've had every Madden since '02. I can't tell you how long I've spent customizing rosters so that they are just right for whatever team I choose to play with in either Franchise or Superstar modes. It's a significant part of the game for me. In Madden '12, they've finally allowed us the ability to edit rosters on the fly in Franchise mode. This year, they take away something we've had at our disposal for as long as I can remember. EA could not be any more backwards. And I won't even begin with the removal of Fantasy Drafts in Online Franchises. Those Drafts were the best part, bar none.

I'm definitely going to but mostly because I'm in an online franchise. Defensive players moving back is to avoid nano blitzes. Hitstick is not meant to be used all the time. So if you do, you're gonna miss a lot of tackles. I read the guide on connected careers, it's gonna be amazing. Espcially for online franchises which I'm excited about. I do hate the kicking. I also hope they fix the dropped passes though that can easily be fixed with sliders. I don't think nit picking should be enough for someone to not buy this Madden. I think it's gonna be that good. I don't care what ratings it gets since those are only opinion anyways.

Demo feels way different than 12, its almost like a brand new game. I am super excited to try out franchise and play as the Ravens. I do think they need to work on the animations in terms of players after the play will trip over other players and fall down... lol. This is funky and its because of the new physic engine, but its something that can be improved. I also noticed deep balls get picked off ALOT or mine did was harder throwing deep passes if you man gets behind the DB plan on it being picked. All and all I thought it was good I like how the offensive line feels more alive and actually uses their weigh and body to control the line.

12 madden doesn't compare 13 will hopefully set a new standard for madden games and I hope every year we will great improvements because they now have a good platform.

I am still going to rent it before I think about buying it. However, I wouldn't draw the line with this game. This new team developing Madden, you can tell they stripped the game down to basics. I'm sure over the next couple of years, they are going to build it back up to it's former glory but only better.

There are a multitude of reasons for buying this game, but not enough of those reasons aren't available through the demo version. So, that's why I'm waiting to make may final verdict.

I didn't know where to post this so I'll just post it here.

Depending on who gets cut, our WR corp should have some decent speed.

Deonte's a 97
Torrey's a 95
Jacoby's a 93
Tommy's a 93
Rice is a 91
Reed is a 90
Both Qs are 86s
Doss is an 84
Dickson is an 83
I forget what Pitta is though

They took out the fantasy draft altogether??

That alone would keep me from buying madden

Exactly. One of the funnest parts for me was drafting with my friends and seeing who can build up the best team.

The Fantasy Draft is a minor thing for me (it was the only thing I did when I was younger). It was a nice feature to have, but it doesn't make or break the game for me.

I'm really eager to see what the draft is like now. I want to build a team around my guy, RGIII.

I probably wasn't going to buy it either way.. I don't even play anymore.

But removing the draft would definitely help me decide not to throw down 60 bucks for a game

I know this is for the "demo", but did anyone actually get the game early through the EA sports season pass? I saw my friends online playing it yesterday, and was definitely jealous.

See, this is what really irks me about EA - why take out the opportunity to edit equipment? There's nothing to be gained from it. Much like they streamlined most of superstar mode when there really was no need.

I take Franchise Mode as seriously as you Franny and I have to say that the inability to make those edits is going to really make me consider whether to get this game or just wait for the next one.
