The Injury Bug

47 posts in this topic

Apparently our other division mates caught the bug. Pitt lost three players to injuries, Browns lost four, and so did the Bengals.

A lot of these 'injuries' are things guys would play through if it was the real season.

That's exactly why I'm not concerned about most of the injuries.

Theres a couple bug me. Pierce because his hammy troubled him at college aswell, this could be a lingering issue. Add in the fact, the rookie who was expected to be our no.2 and a damn good one is missing valuable time.

Doss and him having another injury, which seems to be bugging some players. Missing valuable time with Joe, i had high hopes for him this year, i hope he can get back on the field and get some preseason time.

Dicksons/Pittas injury, as long as one is good to go by week 1 im not too concerned because it will give us agreat look at the other guys for that no.3 spot.

Birk, same as above, not concerned now, gino gets gameplay and can learn, but birk better be back against a tough cincy dline week 1 or we could be in a bit of trouble, based on game 1.

Depending on how Gino progresses, I think we might be okay against Cincy if Gino does end up starting. His only real issue was blitz protection. Gino's legs are fresher and would be better suited to blocking the quick defensive line of the Bengals.
Thats why im not concerned atm. because he needs game time for blita protection. Id like to see williams and yanda help out a bit there during the game, but if he doesn improve much in that by week 1 it could spell trouble. Id rather Birk be back for that game if im honest, just for the experience if anything.

Can we put Birk's brain in Gino's body? Problem solved!

I think Birk is fine. They were just letting him sit this game out like Lewis and Reed for the most part. I think they want to give Gino a lot of playing time. I believe they plan on having him spell Birk sometimes to keep Birk fresher.

You guys said Torrey is fine, but on ESPN.com they said Harbaugh said he could be out a few weeks. Did he just say that so he doesn't risk further injury or what?

i guess none of you saw Mcbean's break. his foot nearly turned around backwards. he's not coming back for a long time. is two months too short for a broken ankle?
It might not be too short for the ankle to heal but it's proabably too short to get the ankle strong again. With a broken ankle he'll have to stay off of it until its healed and throughout that process the muscles in the ankle and leg will atrophy. So he'll need additional time to regain the strength in his leg and get it up to football shape.

The fact that he's such a large individual makes the process more arduous.

Quote from a results article earlier from Sunday's practice: Wide receiver Torrey Smith tweaked his ankle in the preseason opener and he sat out Saturday’s practice. He was a limited participant on Sunday. "It’s a little nick. It’s football, you have to learn to deal with it and learn to play with it, but I’m fine."

One day of rest on what I read was an ankle sprain? Come on! I have to say when I read "tweaked his ankle" it gave me L. Evans flashbacks, lol. :scared2: This guy worked his butt off in the offseason and is too important to the offense, let him rest and rehab. so this doesn't become a lingering issue pleeease. It's still pre-season, just sayin'!

According to Ravens Twitter after Preseason Game 2:

[background=rgb(245, 245, 245)]Injury report: "LaQuan Williams and Vonta Leach (sprained ankles). Ricky Brown (hip contusion). Sergio Kindle (shoulder stinger)." [/background]

[background=rgb(245, 245, 245)]LaQuan and and Leach being hurt definitely is not a good sign, and I'm strating to doubt we ever see Kindle be healthy enough to flourish into what we hope he can be [/background]
