The Injury Bug

47 posts in this topic

Injuries seem to be hitting our team hard at the beginning of this season. I thought it would be wise to start a thread devoted to discussion on injuries, updates on said injuries, and the impact it will have on personnel decisions as we trudge through training camp and preseason.

I don't know about you guys but I was holding my breath the entire game (especially with those pile ups along the line on run plays).

We came out battered and bruised from this game with injuries to Ed Dickson, Ryan McBean, and Asa Jackson. Not to mention hamstring related issues for Tyrod and Chykie, an ankle for Torrey, and a hip contusion to Logan Payne (Flacco suffered through one a couple seasons back and from what I gather they're not good news. Especially for a WR and special teamer who needs his mobility and speed.).

McBean's injury could be serious but hopefully he'll be healthy and ready to roll once his suspension expires in week 4.

The hamstring injury to Asa is disheartening as well considering how he was shining on special teams.

And obviously the injury to Dickson.... With a shoulder strain there goes our second starting caliber tight end with Pitta already out. Thank goodness we signed Bajema and have some other talent at the position that Joe can toy with. I'd hate for the development of our 2 TE sets to be stunted as a result of injury.

So yeah, some damage was done this game. Here's to hoping for nothing else.

The silver lining I'm trying to find in all of this is that our backups will get added reps which might very well reveal a diamond in the rough. I'm just hoping our starters will be ready to go come September.

Feel free to share your thoughts below and add to the thread as reports and news break concerning injuries to our beloved Ravens.

Take care.

It sucks that key players like Torrey and Dickson will likely be sidelined for the rest of the pre-season and won't be able to further emerge in expanded roles. All we can hope for is that their knocks don't linger into the regular season.

The battle at WR should heat up even more.

In a way it can be a positive thing. Getting quality reps for guys deeper on the WR depth chart has always been tough with this coaching staff. At least guys like LaQuan, Doss and possibly Deonte will get more work with the 1st team and Joe.

Ankle sprain sucks for Torrey but besides that, at least we know he'll protected for the remainder of PS. Hopefully the sprain isn't a high ankle sprain.

This is the first I've heard about Torrey's ankle. Is this based on the Sun article? Maybe they confused Torrey with Jacoby.

Torrey Tweeted that he was fine and "stop confusing me with ED" so I dunno if its just a minor tweek and nothing to worry about?

Yeah, Harbs said Torrey had a minor sprain and that it wasn't a big deal. I can see Dickson missing the rest of Preseason with that shoulder. Hopefully the MRI gives us good news.

He got it when Joe did that dump off pass in the only good drive we had for 1st Team, he came back a play later so i wouldnt worry about Torrey. Dickson's injury is my concern really slows the development between him and Joe and the offense in general..

So we seem to be going into the DET game with Boldin/Jacoby/Rice/Laquan/Bajema as first teamers. On one hand, it's better to have these injuries now than once the season is underway, but still, that many key receivers down after one PS game? Let's hope they don't linger.

Did you see Harbs was happy near the end of game when some of his starters were injured? I was just guessing the depth of this team offensively or defensively really puts a smile on his face....

I was happy too at the end of the game although was a bit down after first quarter....

Ah OK. Thanks.
Glad my intentions for the thread are working! I was hoping we'd be able to clear up the confusion and misinformation that swirls around about injuries :)

How come when I go on Torrey's twitter he says he fine and people should stop confusing him with Dickson regarding the injury.

Injuries are part and parcel of the NFL season. Last year, we were pretty fortunate with injuries. This year it seems not so much. However, outside of Suggs and now McBean, the other injuries will be resolved by the start of the season hopefully. Now we just need to keep our fingerts crossed for fewer injuries the rest of the way.

Torrey is fine. I doubt he misses time. We are out our two starting TEs till the season opener though.
we better have Pitta back.

I dont mind the Torrey injury cause that should give LaQuan more time with the first team. I honestly think coaches feel he's earned the right to be the 3rd wr but won't put Jacoby on the bench due to the money he's earning. I was never behind picking up Jones because I felt we had capable guys who weren't given real opportunities.

I know man I've been thinking the same thing. With the exceptions of Sizzle and McBean, everybody seems OK for week 1. We should be fine down the stretch.

Really hope ASA can get back for the next game. I think he has a real shot at making the sguad. He looked real good last night. I would have liked to see him get a shot at returning, think he's faster and more elusive than Rainey.

A lot of people missing out on a lot of crucial practices. Flacco is down to Anquan and Jacoby as his go to receivers. At least we will know for sure who is most worthy for that 4th WR spot, but man, what is happening this preseason? :229031_rant:

A lot of these 'injuries' are things guys would play through if it was the real season.
And probably wouldn't hear anything about it

After watching our 3rd and 4th stringer dominating over the Falcons' reserves, I'm happy we got a deep roster full of talents so that we don't miss a beat with our starters hurt.

Next man up.
