Deonte Thompson Thread

190 posts in this topic

I don't live in Baltimore, so I couldn't get coverage of this game. I've kept up with stats on NFL. It looks like Deonte Thomson is everything the articles about him have suggested. I was wondering from guys who've been able to see him in action: how fast is he? Do you guys think he'll be contributing this season, or still too premature to know whether that is a viable option yet. Thoughts on this guy from you all who've seen him?

I'm impressed. He's fast. Great body control. Hands looked good. Can't wait to see more!

I'm wondering if he can work over the middle. I'm wondering how limited his route tree is.

From what I saw he looked like a possession receiver out there. I didn't see him try to blow past anyone, but he was consistently catching the ball. I'd like to see what he can do with straight line speed and Joe Flacco at quarterback.

Possession guys don't usually average over 15 yards a catch, but I get what you're sayin'. In fact, I think he averaged 17 a catch today.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think I'd like to see the same thing. Maybe next week we will. I'm looking forward to it.

He just did so well in space and made catch after catch. It wasn't what I expected from him at all. But I ain't hating it.

If he plays like that during the during the rest of the preseason he will make the team. With Thompson the question was always his hands. If he can catch, you don't find guys who can run in the 4.2's everyday.

There's just so much talent on this team, but not enough spots. Hopefully Thompson can claim a spot.

His catch in the first half was nasty. Also, if he wasn't mugged on that one deep ball he would have made a big play. I'm very impressed with him

Buh bye David Reed...

Not only a possible return man, but looking good as receiver too.

Exactly my thoughts. Who needs Reed if this guy continues to perform this well! Hopefully we let him return some kicks next week.

Deonte Thompson might be a nice find, but he is known to have talent, but can't put it together on the field. He might be a good practice squad candidate, but if he keeps blowing up during the preseason, but be really hard for the front office to waive him.

I don't know if the numbers are on his side, outside of the starting 3 we have Doss, Williams, Streeter and (lol) Reed. [/background]

i said it in my topic: the cuts at wide receiver are gonna be the tougher decisions this year. but i like it much more that way. the previous years it was always like: who is good enough to be our third or fourth guy. this year is different. a lot of talent around there.

if thompson keeps it up he has a good chance to make the team...

I was impressed by Thompson. He looked bigger on the field than I thought he was and he was making grabs that put my mind at ease with regard to his inconsistent hands from college. We can always use another burner on the team.

I just finished watching the replay of the game on NFLNetwork ( started at 3am if you were wondering) and the moronic commentators for Atlanta kept calling him Ed Dickson...

If we try to put Deonte on the practice squad ,he will be snapped up very quickly.

I see him as around our 4th best reciever . Smith,Boldin,Jones,Williams & Thompson(close).

I gotta a feeling about this kid.I think he can be a big playmaker.

I liked what I saw from Thompson. He seemed to be the go-to guy on Painters's scoring drive. Painter went back to him 2 plays after he caught the ball out of the endzone and Thompson came down with the ball for the touchdown. The top 3 receiver spots are a lock-Boldin, Smith, and Jones. The battle is for the remaining 3 or 4 spots between Williams, Streeter, Doss, D. Reed, and Thompson. The remainder of the receivers seem to be camp bodies that won't make it past the first round of cuts.

Interesting...

You think its possible to keep Doss, Williams, Streeter AND Thompson? Cut D. Reed? I mean, he has barely made any impact, if any, the last couple years. Very injury prone. If Thompson keeps it up, might be best to keep him and cut our losses with D. Reed?

I think we need to try to keep Doss, Williams, Streeter, and Thompson. They have all impressed me at various points. Right now, Doss is the easiest for me to want to let go, but last year in the pre-season he impressed me. This year, Thompson is the guy impressing me most, then Williams.

If Doss doesn't do something to make a name for himself over the next two preseason games Deonte might just steal his spot.

all comes down to special teams, Williams is for sure a lock. we still have camp baring injury i dont think Reed will make the cut against Thompson and streeter with us adding Jacoby for returns

I was watching the game live streaming on NFL.com and I saw Deonte make a beautiful leaping catch from Taylor on the sideline, then out of nowhere the the feed dropped and never came back...

Disappointed me because I really look forward to seeing the younger players progression, such as Thompson, Streeter, Allen, Berry, Asa Jackson... and that didn't happen for me. I'll have to catch the NFLN replay this week.

We will see a few surprise cuts when we reduce the roster from 90 to 53. I don't think D. Reed is going to make it this time unless he is put on PUP and/or gets an injury settlement. Streeter and Thompson won't last long on the practice squad if they end up there.

They all need to be showcased so we know who to keep, because they're sure as hell not going to get many receptions during the season.
