If a kicker goes unnoticed, then he must be doing his job and making field goals automatic.

The only way a kicker gets noticed is if he's known for shanking kicks (Cundiff) or booting at ridiculous range (SeaBass).

Cundiff got his name known due to his ridiculous touchback record and solid FG% that earned him a Pro Bowl and All-Pro.

Justin Tucker is doing a great job to put a lot of motivation and pressure on Billy Cundiff.

If we cut Cundiff, we're not exactly going to save money due to his top 5 kick contract.

I'll be rooting for the best kicker to get us a ring.

Justin Tucker seems to me getting the edge due to his accuracy, strong leg, and nothing to lose mentality.

I could be wrong but I thought somebody did the math and we would actually save ~$2 million against the cap if we cut Cundiff

We would "save" $2M this year, but carry dead money for 2013 and 2014 ($1M - $2M....not 100% sure).

I find it funny how the same people that dogged me about being a 'hater' on billy cundiff are now completely wrecking cundiff. Funny how I even received bogus warnings from moderator because I made a debate about cutting cundiff.

Its pointless now, we shouldve addressed the problem when we had the chance and we could've won a SB.

Thank the homer fans that stuck with Cundiff!

Oh..btw that thread was made in week 10 of last season. Plenty of time to pick up FA kicker.

Throughout the whole thread you never once named a kicker we could have signed so calm down..

And some of the "homer fans" were looking at the big picture. At the time (midseason and also after just signing him to a long contract) it would have been stupid to cut him and find a replacement out of nowhere.
Our chances were better with Cundiff. Blame our FO not Cundiff. I'm sure he did his best even though he fell short.

This is spot on. We did the best with what and who we had at the time.

It's ridiculous to think that any team can have the "best of the best" at any point in time. It's how a team comes together and covers the inadequacies that separates the great from the good. We just had one(OK, maybe two!) too many holes to cover.

I don't, and never did blame Cundiff for the loss to the patsies. The blame rests squarely on Evans' lapse in concentration. He puts that ball away like he was taught from Pop Warner on, and the Ravens are in the SB. No ifs, ands or buts. If Cundiff makes the kick, it goes to OT and there's no telling what would have happened.

If Tucker looks like the better kicker and wins the competition, then that is who we go with. It may not work out, but he will have used our best option. If we think Cundiff is the better choice, then we live with that and hope for the best. If there were any better viable options out there, who thinks we would not pursue those options?

For the record. I supported you in that thread. Ofcourse I did post that after the playoffs when you did it before. *Hats off* I never flamed you because I've never been gung ho about Billy in the first place.

[quote name='PuRock' timestamp='1327344331' post='969174']
But take a look at his stats historically. He's usually averaging 60's,70's in FG %. Last year he went off the chart with an 89%. So last year is looking more and more like a misnomer year. Just because he had one great season doesn't make him a great kicker. His leg was nothing like it was last year.

21 kickers this year who had over 20 FGA, had averages of 80 or better. Billy's only had one season over 80% in his entire career (not including the one year he wend 6 for 6).

If you think kicker is the biggest concern we face, then wow. I don't care who the kicker is, I care about how the offense is going to produce so we don't have to rely on the kicker as much.

Where are the Cam Cameron petitions?

Really? All i said was we have to support our kicker for the rest of the season. It is was the most logical choice available. Why shake his confidence in week ten. When we might need him in the AFC championship game to tie or win. Oh yeah, that already happened.

Now reflecting on last year i say that if Billy is going to miss kicks like he is a rookie, then why not play a real rookie, and go through growing pains with him.

LOL u kill me........

The only thing I have to say is I don't think Billy should be cut just because of one kick. Adam Vinatieri missed a kick in the Super Bowl. It was an important miss, but it was only one. Just one kick.

We also paid Billy a heavy contract and he set a touch back record the year before.

It's just one kick. One.

Go ahead and give me negatives lol.

Now if Justin Tucker flat out preforms Billy this pre-season, that's a different story.

I get what you're saying, but its pretty clear it was more than one kick, two kicks, three kicks etc...

Other than 2010, his career is very eh. I agree for lets see what the preseason brings.

That's the problem. Its not just one kick.

He only had one good (abnormal) season. All his other seasons have been below average. We can expect another below average season again in all likelihood

I think Billy still has a chance. Like I said, we'll see how pre-season plays out.

People called me crazy when I said we should bring back Matt Stover before we ended up going with Steve Hauschka. "He's old, he can't kick past 50" but he'll make it when it matters!

I think the problem is that it was more than one kick. He missed one in Pittsburgh, 2 in St Louis, 2 in Seattle (that could have won the game for us) 2 in Cleveland (I think that game had terrible weather, though), etc. And I don't blame him much for the AFCCG kick - we all know the scoreboard issues, and for a position that's all about handling pressure, that was the absolute worst situation to be in. Also, it is about cost effectiveness - Tucker is an unknown, but if the coaches feel he can do the same job as Billy at a fraction of the cost, I think Billy will get the axe. He'll get another shot somewhere, but unfortunately a salary cap means you try to do things as cheaply as possible.

If you are a true Ravens fan, you will understand that everyone makes mistakes and no matter who comes out on top of this, either it being Billy Cundiff or Justin Tucker, Billy Cundiff is still a Raven right now. So if you would like to continue to "diss" Cundiff that's fine but just know that if he continues to be our kicker this year, he's our only one, so you'll either have to get used to it or just not be happy with the decision, but how far is that going to get you? Billy Cundiff made not only a mistake, but a pretty important mistake but he also has made a bunch of kicks that have won games for us, so everyone who is still mad at him for that is focusing on the bad. Look how far he's gotten. Cundiff just needs some competition, like a couple years ago with Shayne Graham. I actually met John Harbaugh that year and talked to him about Billy Cundiff. And does no one remember Steve Hauschka? Remember how many times he lost games for us?
Last years season is over and it's now a new season. Starting new. And I think Billy Cundiff deserves a chance to start new also.
Either way, who ever they pick is going to be a Raven and that's it. No one should complain about it if they actually want this team to go far. ----Casey

Your first post ever. And, while you have a valid point, I will just say that I don't think you understand our complaints. Billy Cundiff was released from 8 different teams. In 9 seasons, he only had one that was above mediocre-2010. After missing that kick, Cundiff's confidence was shaken, and he has struggled in practice ever since.
This is about what is best for the Baltimore Ravens. And, with the exception of cursana pirate, most of us seem to think that the rookie Justin Tucker is best.
Ask yourself this: Why was Cundiff cut from 8 teams?

Look back a few months and you'll find the find the petition to axe him. Most or us were pissed when we found out we resigned him. He alhad about the same amount of supporters as Billy.

I question that decision everyday and Im still puzzled as to what the front office was thinking. I understand they are looking at it from the point of view that we won the division an was one play from the Super Bowl but ask your self this. Why Flacco is lobbying to keep the game out of the reach of the other team and Cam isnt on board?

BTW I dont care who wins just hope both sides get a fair shot.
