According to an article on NFL.com "Despite a few big plays, the New York Post reports Stephen Hill is having a very quiet New York Jets camp. This is not a shock because of the basic offense Hill played in at Georgia Tech."

surprise surprise. I remember some people saying we should take him in the first round...it just goes to show you, it takes more than a good 40 time to make it in the NFL. Besides, we've managed to find a speedster of our own in Deonte Thompson (not to mention Jones and Torrey already), who, to his credit has made more noise than Hill, a second round pick.

I know its still jsut the preseason, but if you can't do it at practice, its very unlikely you'll do it in the game. Give him a few years to develop though, and I may be eating my words.

It's still early (cue the Torrey Smith references). I think hindsight shows that drafting any receiver in the early rounds would've been a waste. We already have enough receiver depth.

I guess if we took Hill instead of Upshaw then everyone would be screaming about it right now. The reality is that he would be locked behind the logjam of receivers waiting for his chance to play. Instead, we drafted a guy that will play every game if not start. It was a no-brainer for us. I was one of the guys on the Hill bandwagon but I am completely satisfied with us taking Upshaw and Osemele in the second round. Don't count Hill out just yet. Smith had a rough preseason last year and sat for several games until Evans got hurt. I see Hill playing this year but not starting.

when i think of a guy like Hill, for some reason Yamon Figurs comes to mind......... one aspect doesnt make a player.

" a few big plays" i said it to family and friends awhile back..... in order to succeed in the NFL today... you have to be the "total" package... blocking, recieving exc..learning the complex schemes, and all that. not just throw it up there and go get it. Teams gamble each year with different players they "hope" will bring change to a position and spend a high draft pick on him, more often than not , thats not the case... ie Jamarcas Russell and a few others. or its the whole " oh gosh! this is the REAL NFL..... i cant do this! everthing's so fast! and hard to understand" therefore thinking before doing and thus making it more difficult on them rather than just " go out and play football" like everyone did when they were kids... and played for Free.

Some have it, others dont, its all a gamble.

but then again, its too early to judge isnt it?

To Hill's credit he's playing against a pretty good defense with downright awful QBs throwing him the ball.

Working against Hill is the fact that the only really good reciever on that team is Holmes so he must be behind some scrubs on the depth chart.

It's always easy to fall in love with the combine workout warrior. Sometimes people forget that playmakers earn their stripes on the field. Not to say this guy is gonna be a bust, but the ravens always make rational picks. Rarely ever emotional

Can't lie I wanted us to draft him (though not first round) and I agree it is too early to say he's not going to pan out. But they had to know he would be a project like Streeter will be for us. Tall fast red zone threat but everything else will have to develop. And let's all hope we hold on to Thompson. He's no lock to make the team, but we need that speed!

I've already said Hill will never be anything with Sanchez/Tebow throwing to him and I stand by that.

Saw him drop a pass against the Bengals where he was wide open, standing still, and it was thrown perfectly at him.

I saw that too. Not indicative of anything, but at the same time I was never high on him. Calvin Johnson is a freak of nature, just playing the same position at the same school does not mean you're going to be the next version of him.
