Rankings 2012

16 posts in this topic

Alot of people might not like this idea because some of us are in leagues with eachother.

Me on the other hand has no problem with sharing how I feel about how I rank players.

I would like to get some honest reponses so I can actually see what normal fantasy junkies think, instead of going with the safest picks like all the 'experts' from NFL.com and ESPN do every year. Or trying to be deceitful lol.

So I'm going to do my top 5 at every position. Feel free to do top 5,10,15,20 - whatever!

So here is my player rankings as of 8/7/12 haha. (Assuming every player plays all 16 games).

RB-

WR-

Why the hate on Foster? To me there is the big three at RB, then there is everybody else. Foster > Rice > McCoy. That order is pretty clear cut to me but I would take anyone of them.

Foster is in a running offense, with a great O-Line, in a weak division, with an offense that can stretch the field. I see no reason (besides injury), Foster won't be the best.

Did you know he turnt into a vegan? Lol. I'm sorry but that does affect his stock in my eyes. I don't believe he will live up to the hype as the number #1, I have other theories that might sound ridiculous that I will keep to myself lol.

You can't be serious. Ricky Williams became a vegetarian in 2005 and became a vegan during his playing days as well.

I can understand questioning his o-line or the presence of Ben Tate, but I highly doubt his diet will prevent him from being the #1 RB.

I read an article that convinced me on it. Plus RB trends change like every year. Having him so low is hard to explain because I have other feelings, I just don't see him as the top back.

Do you have a link to the article? If not, what did it say?

It wouldn't surprise me if a RB outproduced Foster this year, but based on expected workload, talent, youth and durability, he's clearly worth considering as the top RB.

What other reasons do you have Foster ranked fourth for?

I'll post the link when I get home.

Its a consistency issue. I read somsthing else (don't have link to) that displayed how RBs in their third year typically struggle. Foster is not a typical RB but its really a gut feeling I got. Plus his line is shaky, Ben Tate looked great last year, Schaub and Andre are back who will change the offensive philosophy to probably 50/50 run-pass. His diet change will affect his body some way.

I still think he can finish in the top 3, it wouldn't surprise me. But I rather have Rice and McCoy over him as of right now. If DMC wasn't so risky I would prefer him over foster as well.

Foster when healthy gets the majority of the snaps. He is the back and the texans obviously feel that way because of how they paid him. Tate is definitely good but is a spell back and doesn't get the consistent carries foster gets.

This year at wr I hate the top 5 except for Calvin. Andre Johnson has had some injuries, nicks is coming off a stress fracture, roddy white was terrible last year and Julio jones is supposedly might be better than him. Mike Wallace might not be the best wr on his team.

For me this year I'm reaching for the top 8 rbs and then going wr.

Fair enough.

No offense, but those are some flimsy reasons to downgrade. For one, Foster is in his fourth year. His offensive line has two new starters but that doesn't automatically mean it'll regress or not be able to open holes. As good as Tate looked last season, there were more than a few games where he didn't get much run. I doubt that changes much this year. As for Schaub and Johnson, Houston still needs more targets to emerge for them to get away from pounding the rock as much as they do.

And regarding his diet, why assume it will negatively affect him? I brought up Ricky Williams as a clear example that you don't need meat to perform at a high level.

Well they might be filmsy but in fantasy I go with my gut and iI look at everything involved with players. I don't think he'll be worth the number 1 pick at seasons end. #4 isn't bad. And I remember seeing something about the 3rd or 4th year, can't remember what it was.

RBs
Foster- nothing needs to be said
Rice - nothing needs to be said obviously
Chris Johnson- I think he comes in with a chip on his shoulder with something to prove after last year
Mccoy- little drop off from last year
stephen jackson- i know, i know, i just have a gut feeling he has a monster year

I dont get the hype with ryan mathews, maybe its just because the rbs are so thin, but i dont see what is warranting him a top 5 rank, i guess with tolbert leaving theres no one to take his tds, to me its high risk high reward, something i wont do with a early pick

QBs
Rodgers
brady
stafford
vick- bounce back year, too many weapons
cutler- brandon marshall, forte, it will be explosive

Im not big on qbs in the first round, or second, maybe in the third...

WRs
megatron
Fitz
marshall
lloyd
jennings

Wrs are extremely deep this year and guys will breakout throughout the season, i honestly put torrey smith in top ten

TEs
graham
gronk
hernandez
pettigrew
davis

Here are my personal rankings at each position

Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers
Drew Brees
Tom Brady
Cam Newton
Matthew Stafford
Michael Vick
Tony Romo
Eli Manning
Phillip Rivers
Carson Palmer

Yes I dont have Peyton on this list. He was on the decline in his last season played. On top of that I expect Denver to lean on the run a lot more than Peyton did in Indy. Peyton will still be good but his schedule, lack of chemistry with receivers, and limited deep attempts cause me to rank him more conservatively.

So why did I pick palmer at 10. As bad as carson palmer was last season when he came in. He passed for 291 yards a game on avg. This is without dmc, without knowing the playbook, and having 0 chemistry with the receivers. The emergence of Heyward Bey and Denarious Moore will give Palmer options for the deep ball as well as speed. I expect Oakland's offense to run in a similar fashion to Philly's offense. Not to mention they will have to throw due to oaklands now terrible secondary.

RG3 is a rookie and washington scares me, the passing game isnt the thing in Texas which eliminates schuab as well

Runningbacks
LeSean Mccoy
Chris Johnson-
Ray Rice
Arian Foster
Ryan Matthews
Marshawn Lynch
Demarco Murray
Maurice Jones Drew
Darren Mcfadden
Matt Forte

Okay some are probably wondering why Demarco Murray so high. Simply put low risk for great talent. An MJD holdout is a real possibility. Darren Mcfadden will end up killing your season unless you are extremely strong at rb. (or the impossible happens and he plays 16 games) Its just a matter of when. Forte has Michael bush there now to vulture tds which were low last season to begin with despite him playing 12 games.

WR
Calvin Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Greg Jennings
Andre Johnson
Julio Jones
Brandon Marshall
Victor Cruz
Roddy White
Wes Welker
A.J. Green

The top 4 ranking should be obvious. At my I have Julio who has the 8th easiest schedule in the league. The team will throw more and he will be featured. All the reports are raving about him. Not only that but he led all receivers in yards after the catch last year. He was also a perfect 8-8 in red zone targets (per espn.com). Marshall on the other hand has 3rd easiest schedule in the league and should all go as normal have another 100 reception season possibly more and explode. There is no reason for Cruz to regress. He is a slot guy and should return to that position and rack of yards after the catch. White will see a hit from the emergence of Julio but will still get his. A.J. Green will once again prove himself to be a top 10 guy but I see him getting a lot more attention this time around. Welker will get his but given all the weapons in NE I see his receptions taking a slight hit.

TE
Jimmy Graham
Rob Gronkowski
Vernon Davis
Antonio Gates
Jermichael Finley
Fred Davis
Aaron Hernandez
Jason Witten
Tony Gonzaes
Jared Cook

@sizzlebshu agree with most if your rankings but a couple points i disagree on. Lets start with Carson Palmer. Oakland is going to look different this year. They hired Greg Knapp as OC...he used to be Texans QBs coach so I would expect there offense to resemble more of a kubiak/shanahan system. Zone blocking and lots of pounding the ball with some play action attempts downfield.

Matt Forte: he has never been a good goal line back but has always been a fantasy stud. He gets tons of yards which is where his value comes from. I dont see that changing...he is easily top 6-7 for me.

WRs after Megatron and Fitz i dont see any way to project who will be next. Tons of depth at WR.

As for your last point, I just gave my opinion based on what I saw for WR

As for Forte, I expect his yardage totals to decrease. Marshall is there and should be good for 100 receptions. The line will not be blocking as long so a passing game should emerge. While Forte will be a part of it, he's not gonna account for almost 50% of the offense anymore. On top of that I expect bush will get a healthy number of carries if for no other reason than to protect Forte and keep him fresh.

As for Palmer, yes things will change, but here's what wont change. Darren Mcfadden will get injured. The Raiders defense. Oakland will have to throw to stay in games and Palmer can throw. I think that an overhaul of the offense wont be happening. Even if the Texans offense emerges in Oakland. Really how much different is it than what Oakland normally does.
