Same old Jared Gaither

I thought I would post this in case anyone out there still wished we hadn't gotten rid of this guy. I got this from Si.com.

"The sixth-year pro was a life-saver for the Chargers last season. After Baltimore allowed him to leave as a free agent and Kansas City released him, he was claimed off waivers and inserted into San Diego's starting offense. He quickly provided stability to an injury-ravaged line and helped San Diego stay in playoff contention. In the offseason the Chargers signed him to a potential $24.5 million deal that includes virtual guarantees of $13.5 million, but the 6-foot-9, 335-pounder has been missing in action at camp. Reportedly suffering from cramping and back spasms, he has participated in only one practice. Personnel people throughout the league are viewing the situation with arched eyebrows. They questioned when he signed the contract whether his desire would remain as strong once his pockets were full. He has to step up because the Chargers don't have a legitimate option behind him."

Man does that sound familiar huh? The Chargers gave him the big contract we refused to and they are paying the price.

If you ask me, this just adds validity to the legitimate concerns that he has a chronic back issue. I'm more happy that we jettisoned him for the medical reasons than the idea that he was released as a result of him being lazy.

I suffer from chronic back issues and I can assure you that back problems aren't like a broken arm or illness. Sometimes there isn't a smoking gun for the problem. Back issues are finicky and easily complicated.

It makes no sense to me why Gaither would fake an injury and leave approximately $10M on the table. He's a proven LT and has a golden opportunity to anchor the SD line. In my eyes, Gaither has a serious back issue and the Chargers are left without a LT.

If he's not faking, then they gave a big contract to 'damaged goods', something we were smart enough not to do.

Maybe it's luck, smart would have been keeping James Harrison or not selecting Kyle Boller. I don't fully buy that he's faking because he has a hell of a lot to lose.

After the Chargers signed Gaither and he played so well for them they looked like geniuses. I insisted to their fans that the bad Gaither would show up. It feels good to be right.

To me its a little bit of both. I truly believe that he has back issues. But I also believe there is some motivational concerns as well.

He's not the type of guy you can offer a big contract to, sit back and relax about it.

i agree with most here, he has to have some kind of chronic back injury, after all he did fail the medical at oakland after we released him

Wow, this dude is still having back issues. When he left the Ravens our line was a mess and I hated that we decided to party ways. However, we've done fine w/out him. A healthy Gaither would be an upgrade now but I doubt we'll ever see the words healthy and Gaither in the same sentence any time soon!!

He should just retire so his back issues dont get worse.

Yah, with 13mil guaranteed from the SD, he can live with it if he knows how to manage his money......

Getting over like fat cat again. I'm glad we cut the dead wait. He said he was 100% healthy when he came back last year. I hate thinking him and Barnes enjoyed the revenge factor after we got beat badly last year. I want him to be there this year for a return thumping.
