Partly why Arian Foster went undrafted...

Just read this really good article on Foster. It's highlighting his new diet choice and other stuff, but they also touch on him "clashing" with his college coaches which led to them "ripping" him to NFL coaches and personnel men.

That sense of curiosity got Foster into trouble. At the University of Tennessee, Foster admitted that he butted heads with the coaching staff when he was required to go to every class, even sending monitors to make sure he went.

"I'm 19 years old, I can get myself to class," Foster said of that time. To him, as long as he did the work and got the class notes, he felt he should be afforded the same freedom as other students.

"The professors would tell the students that they didn't have to go to every lecture, but not the football players. We had to go to every class," Foster said. As a result, Tennessee coaches ripped Foster to NFL coaches and personnel men, helping him go undrafted.

Not to say Foster probably wasn't at fault to some degree for his former coaches ripping him, but it's pretty sad they essentially tried to sabotage his future.

It's his own fault for trying to fight the system. It cost him a lot of money.

He got a good deal this year, so in the long run he didn't lose that much.

Foster does have a bit of a point though. The vast majority of football players are hidden in easy classes anyway, which you should be able to get through without really going to them. Even in engineering a lot of people I know skip class, but get the notes and do the work.

The thing is Foster is a really smart and thoughful guy. The coaches at Tennessee didnt like that I guess. They pretty much made Foster the scapegoat for their team's failures.

This article is a good read as well. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8192999/houston-texans-rb-arian-foster-ranked-no-1-fantasy-preseason-espn-magazine

Interesting, indeed. What a steal Foster was, I just don't get how scouts can miss out on that talent...

They drafted another undrafted RB this year that all the coaches are saying they really like, given their recent success he might go ham eventually. lol

I've always loved Arian Foster. Does anyone else think part of the reason he went undrafted is because he's a pretty smart dude? I seem to remember reading an interview with the only guy to ever score a perfect 50 on the Wonderlic (blanking out on his name, I think he was a punter) and he said he felt his draft stock dropped because coaches wanted to be the smartest guys in the room. I can't say that I don't think there is a little truth to that...
