Ray Lewis Statue

97 posts in this topic

Was hoping of using this as an outlet to get our favorite Raven a statue in front of our wonderful stadium. He has given so much to this community, to fellow athletes, to the homeless and to children. He has also done this outside of our state and country in places such as London, England.

This is a living legend football wise and he is one of the best humanitarians I have ever known through the media. He is a man who off field is always smiling and just enjoys life and enjoys motivating and helping others. A street sign isn't enough.

If you think we need to get him a statue to show our gratitude as a fan base, please reply.

(Figured start the process now so it can be erected after he retires in a year or two)

Once he retires, no doubt he will get one.

It would be cool to do what the Orioles are doing with putting statues up of former legends. I know we haven't been around as long as them but 1 statue a year for however long would be pretty cool.

Ogden, Stover, Jamal, Boulware and eventually Lewis, Reed and Suggs.

They could present new ones when our former players go into our ring of honor.

Agreed. It'll happen sometime after he retires. They have Johnny U who is obviously a legend, but never a Raven. Ray, who's a Ravens legend, will definitely be out there at some point.

Nothing against those other guys, I just don't think they are on par with Ray on and off the field.

I agree. Rays would obviously be in the middle, be bigger and made of pure gold. haha

Ray has arguably had more impact on his fellow players throughout the league than any player in the last 20 years, and not to only those he has called teammates. There are always going to be opposing fans who will dwell on the one tarnish of his image in the past, but everything else he has done for his community and needy people throughout the country speaks much louder to the man he is. I think, without question he will get a statue of some sort in Baltimore (he already has a street, haha) and instead of a bust in the Hall, they should just go ahead and do a full body of Ray Lewis, the greatest, complete NFL player and man of honor in modern league history.

But......

At 230lbs or 250lbs? That the dilemma!

At 245 with high shoulder pads

I'm kind of against statues unless the person is dead...

(I am not saying in any way Ray should be dead)

But it's just weird to me if they're still alive. Sure naming stuff after people like a street or building is okay, but not a statue.. too eh for me.

Just my personal opinion, and considering I don't live in the city of Baltimore I really don't care

Get rid of the torch and replace it with a Lombardi Trophy.

They have to give Ray Lewis a statue when he retires. I hope it's in the pose at the end of his dance.

As much as I l those, I think only Ray and JO should get a statue. That first draft, being able to get both of them set the tone for this Franchise. Maybe Stover, but that's really it.

If we're gonna put up statues, I think they should at least wait until that player is in the Hall of Fame.

Your right.... definetly Stover though. He pretty much played offense for us in 2000.
Lewis, Ogden, Stover and maybe Reed if he retires with us. I would love to see statues of them out front next to "U".

As much as those other players were great for us. Lewis is the Ravens as Unitas was the Colts.

Only Lewis deserves a statue. You cant just give them out like candy. A statue is something reserved for the greatest of the great.

I agree just Ray. Can't imagine a team putting up a statue of a kicker haha.
[/quote]

Although if there ever was a kicker that deserved one, it's Stove. In 2000 he by himself scored over 1/3 of our points, including ALL of the points against Cleveland one game, all but 7 points against Oakland in the AFCCG, half our points against Arizona, etc.

In regards to a Ray statue, hope it doesn't happen for at least 4 years, because that means Ray will play another 3. But right now IMO Ray and JO are the two that should be considered for statues, since they are the two HOFers that helped lead us to a title.
