they should of got the Death Penalty, their football program shutdown for 4 years, and those top guys should have a show cause on them,or better yet, they cant do anything related with college for the rest of their lives, should of fined them as well.
And that would have been the death knell of ALL Penn State sports. The small sports depend on shared football revenue to stay in existence. Would THAT have been fair?

Awaken we agree on this point they worried more about what will people think if we say We Pennstate made a mistake in hirering this guy and letting him use our facilities , instead of Admitting it Getting him out of there and playing the heroes they played the Enablers . I liken it to the friend who knows his friend is going out drinking and driving and buys him more alcohol hoping he will pass out but instead he got in the car and killed a family leaving 1 3 yearold alive .

Oh how is practically killing EVERY SPORT at Penn State fair, hm???? Certainly can't blame this fiasco on the wrestlers or the gymnasts or the voleyball players. Oh and not to mention severely impacting the local economy.

Please do explain how that would be even remotely fair....no on second thought, don't.

Guess we all saw this coming. One of the victims might sue Penn State.

Absolutely.

When people abhor at the $60M fine, I just remind them that it's a pittance compared to what the university will pay in legal fees and the payouts of these civil cases.

No doubt. They better have some boosters with extremely deep pockets.

This speaks to sports culture in our society.

As a society, we put athletes on a pedestal because they (ideally) represent the pinnacle of human achievement, both in mind and body. Like the Greek gods of old, we place these individuals above us because we believe they are the best of what we have to offer -- and when they falter, as humans inevitably do, we banish them for betraying our vision of what they once were.

This is part of that cycle. Penn State placed their football program so high above everything else that they believed no one could do any wrong -- and PSU isn't unique in this precarious thinking, as we do the same to our own sports allegiances, to an extent.

I consider this story a cautionary tale. We can love our sports and celebrate our athletes, but we must be careful not to forget the human condition and its inevitable fallacies.

I hear ya. I'm surrounded by Penn State fans also. Not many of them, but some are still defending Paterno.

Your insight on this situation, Franchise, is quite honest and one which should be taken to heart. I will take this to heart, and I agree with you wholeheartedly in this matter, my friend.

Someone at work told me last night that all of the current USC running backs have a combined "0" carries in their college careers. Guess it makes sense Redd chose the Trojans.

What I want to know is who is going to give up his scholarship? If I were a walk-on, I'd tell Redd to shove off. I wouldn't want to give up MY chance for him.

And how does USC KNOW that someone 'might' be academically ineligible. He eseentially left without knowing if he could get a scholarship or not.

And yes I am a bit bitter. I do understand where he is coming from though. One more reason for me to hate USC.

Hi,

I was researching the Ravens homepage and looked for radio coverage. Imagine my shock when I saw the name, "Gerry Sandusky" as a play-by-play (I believe?) announcer - I neglected to write down the station name. Does this radio guy have anything to say, such as a disclaimer on air: "Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Baltimore Raven Fan, I might be Gerry Sandusky, but I am not broadcasting from my cell at such-and-such Prison. I really am not that Gerry Sandusky, who was recently convicted for heinous crimes against children." I don't know, but if I were him, I'd start using my middle name as my first name, and maybe start pronouncing my last name "Sandoosky" or something! Or, maybe he's just very tough-skinned?

He gets the crap from strangers. We of Ravens Nation know who he is. I feel for him though. I'm sure it has gotten more and more overwhelming as time has gone by.
