Why didn't we use Ricky more in this game, Rice just wasn't having a good day. It happens, he's a much better player but that field that day belonged to Ricky.

Oh well. It was rough.

There was a drive towards the end where they were running on n.e. quite easily then comes a pass play and an int.
That pissed me off and IMO that drive woulda negated the need for Evans or cundiff at the end

Getting me pumped for week 3.
I'll go out and say it now:

With the game in Baltimore, and Baltimore having the best fan support in the NFL -- Baltimore will win.

If not, I will grow the Flacco-stache of 2011 for the rest of the season.

I enjoy watching games from an objective standpoint. It was fun (for me) to watch the game just for the point of analyzing the game and our players.

Perk, you will be happy to know that Cam "I formation" Cameron called many, many plays out of 3WR sets. In all honesty, our offense was still relatively productive out of base personnel that game. Cam called a fantastic game. I think that's worth repeating again. The play calling was pretty good.

The offensive line did better than given credit for, but it was still not that good. There were a few drives where they played solid football. Wilfork was a killer.

After watching it, I am even more excited about Kruger this year. He is a much more fundamentally sound player than Suggs. Instead of just rushing up field like Suggs does, Kruger actually engages the tackle, reads the play, plays down the line, and pursues. I think as a whole, the defensive line needs work with fundamentals or consistently following the fundamentals. There were a few plays where even Ngata slipped on his technique. On one of Ben-Jarvus' early runs, Ngata beat the block and could have had Green-Ellis for a loss, but he missed the tackle. Had he played down the line and not gotten too deep in the back field, he could have made the play, preventing a 10+ yard run. Ellerbe needs to go. I can't stress this enough!

Offensively, there were many bright spots, and many not bright spots. The best word to describe the line was inconsistent. There were moments where they played great, and others where they got killed. Yanda probably had the best game of the linemen. I feel like he did the best job in neutralizing Wilfork. Oher had good and bad moments. There were a few where he made really simple mistakes. Early in the game we ran an outside zone play and Wilfork was lined up head up on him. Oher left Wilfork alone for Yanda to deal with, which resulted in a run for a 5 yard loss. The zone blocking rules say that Oher should have taken Wilfork because he was the covered blocker. It's impossible for Yanda to execute an effective reach block on a 5 tech. McKinnie didn't do too bad in my opinion. I think they had good individual games (for the most part) but didn't play well as a unit. Leach was outstanding. Watching him pancake Brandon Spikes was a thing of beauty. The wide receivers did poorly at creating separation. Torrey Smith is an exception.

I am looking forward to watching Kruger, Torrey, Yanda, and Arther Jones this upcoming season. They played very well in the AFCCG and I'm excited to see what they can do this year.

The lack of a PI call there is terrible. That DB was all over Pitta. That could have had as much of an impact as Evans' drop or Cundiff's miss.

Every time I re-watch any football game, even though I already know the outcome, I sit there and think something different will happen. Like I was hoping Evans would have caught it or Cundiff would have sent the game to OT.

I wouldn't blame the loss on the last drive alone, but it's incredible that we managed to get screwed three plays in a row. The last three plays of the game to be exact. The non-call on the blatant PI (how is Pitta supposed to catch the ball when his arms are pinned back?), the non-review of Evans' drop which rushed the 4th down kick, and the scoreboard displaying the wrong down which also rushed the kick.

All this did was remind me that I have Evans' drop and Cundiff's miss perfectly recorded in my memory.

I can literally close my eyes and replay the audio and visual from the drop/miss. It's freakin' depressing.

Edit: Doesn't help that one Dan Hanzus of NFL.com said something to the tune of "On the bright side, that Evans' drop saved us from weeks of Flacco fluff only for him to throw three picks in the Super Bowl." Seriously, that should be a fireable offense for an "unbiased journalist".

Hanzus' twitter: "I was under the impression Joe Flacco had the strongest eyebrows in the NFL, but I suppose this is plausible too" (concerning Jaworski's comments on Joe's arm strength). Is that guy supposed to be taken seriously?

Im surprised Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and guys at the tail end of their careers took it with such class. IF I was a 37 year old linebacker on the last legs of my career and watched 2 players piss away my last opportunity to go to the big show.....I wouldn't have been giving the "gods never made a mistake" speech.

I remember being strangely happy after this game because I thought we'd finally be rid of Mr. "Audibles are Overrated". And the comments after this game were just terrible (i.e. Warren Sapp blaming Flacco's performance for the loss).

I can't believe he's an NFL.com writer. How low do they stoop? I used to really like their website for detailed analysis and real stories but it's becoming more like PFT, they seem to be publishing all the same stories.

I think the naive in some of us thought the Flacco criticism would die down and he would now not be the scapegoat of why the Ravens hadn't made it to the superbowl yet. How wrong we were.

In reality, that was a really good AFCC game. It went back and forth and both teams made big plays, but the game was ours to lose. Because im bored at work, ill go over some key points that stuck out in my mind:

I may be the only one here but im going to defend lee evans. That was not a drop, that was a great play by a defensive player to strip the ball away from a perfectly placed pass from joe. I know most will say that "you have to hold on to it", well dont forget its the defense job to do what they did, thats why hes there, its not like evans was wide open. evans also made an outstanding catch against texans i think, the one handed grab

Our run defense was terrible. we couldnt stop their run game which was sad because ellis is an average back. Suggs didnt seem to be an issue other just pressuring brady, correct me if im wrong

Wilfork was a beast that game and couldnt be blocked

I thought the play calling was good, i would of liked to seen ricky run more times but other than that i cant complain

Most importantly- Joe Flacco. the man made plays with his arm and feet. He made perfect throws all day, obviously the int wasnt great but it didnt hurt us since we got it right back. You would think he would of silenced most after that performance with great clutch time plays, but still he gets no credit because he doesnt throw for 4500 35tds. I really hope cam does not hold him back any more because this is his year, if he does not improve his numbers hes going to get murdered by all critics

So depressing to see it again. The pre half drop by Dixon completely slipped my mind. Brutal

That's another play that could have made a big difference.

Another thing

I dont think this loss even comes close to the game we lost to the steelers when we were up by like three scores by half time a couple years ago. that one still hurts me...a lot. This Ne one not so much

This one would've/should've put us in the Super Bowl which is why it's a lot worse.....And I think whenever we play top QBs like Brady or Peyton we're almost 80% focused on pass which makes our run defense suffer. Draw plays always get good yardage against us when we play those guys.

I believe it was 21-7 at the half. Another gut punch game.
