The Raven

The Marshal Yanda Appreciation Thread

29 posts in this topic

This guy is becoming one of the best offensive linemen in the league. I already think he's the best right guard in football. I still feel like he's under-appreciated so here's a little shout out. When you watch Ravens highlight videos, the majority of our big runs and rushing touch downs seem to come right behind him. He's a beast!

This past season he played through cracked ribs, and he played with stitches still in his leg during the playoffs. Yanda is a freakin warrior. He just might be the toughest player on the Ravens, and he's becoming one of the best players on the team. Marshal Yanda is my favorite player right now.

Sorry izvoodoo, I had to make it first :P

Finally a thread that appreciates a player while they're alive and still on the team. Im glad we kept Yanda even at the cost of Grubbs.

I can't stress enough how much I appreciate a guy like Yanda. He's the ultimate team player and a great player. His contract went smoothly. He never gives us or the FO any headaches. He dominates on Sundays. He plays through injury. He works hard, plays hard, and isn't a headcase.

Why can't every player be like him?

Plus he has to deal with playing next to Oher and his shenanigans.

Favorite thing about him is that he drove a U-Haul all the way from Iowa after he signed his deal. That's an OLman.

M. Yanda's work ethic shows on the field and we paid him. He is truly what you call a Silent assassin. He has great hand technique as well as amazing foot work. A major contributor, for when Ray Rice is not running left he is running right side. Yanda is very good at creating the necessary whole or breathing room for our Run 1st offense of Cam Cameron...

Yeah you got to love them corn fed boys from Iowa, those defensive linemen better bring a lunch when they line up opposite him. No one has a negative word for this guy. He is like Webb, you could wear either one those guys jersey's with extreme pride.

Yanda is one big, tough lineman. Oher is improving and will be better this year. Birk may not make it through the whole season but we have several candidates to back him up. We have Williams to run block, now. Hopefully, McKinnie can get return to his pre-zeppelin Minnesota shape by the time the season begins. I would be working out Reid and Osemele at tackle as well as guard in case someone is injured. Overall, I see the offensive line going from a negative to a plus in the offseason. Let the games begin!

Favorite thing about him is that he took a stun gun to the chest just for a quick buck and this was his reaction.
"I took it for three, four seconds, just stepped out and said, 'Yeah, it hurts a little bit, but it ain't that bad,' " the Ravens guard recalled. "I let them do it to me a couple more times just to make it worth the money."

Gotta love that from you big guys up front.

The best thing about signing Yanda to a 5 year, $32 million contract was that it gave us a solid guard to anchor the right side of the line. This year, he reduces the cap figure by $2.8 million to make room for the signing of Williams to gave us a seasoned veteran on the left side.

I think Yanda's presence influenced our drafting of Gradkowski. They're both blue-collar, hard-working guys who slipped in the draft because of size.

Laying it on a bit thick dont you think? Yanda is good, hes certainly not underappreciated either, his big fat contract proves it. A guy like Ben Grubbs was underappreciated. He wasn't just good, he played like a pro bowler most of the time and quietly went unnoticed, even more than yanda who got way more attention. Yanda got the long term deal cause his contract was up first and we couldn't afford to pay 2 guards like elite players.

I can't say that I entirely agree with that post.

Yanda plays like he's 6'10", 400 lbs. or something. His actual size is average, he's not muscularly ripped or anything, but when he puts his hands on guys, it's backpedal time for them. I remember several goal line runs behind him last year where Ray basically walked into the endzone from his block. He's also a good puller, which takes both good footwork and football IQ to find the right lane and not get in the way of the runner. Pro Football Focus, I believe, also had him giving up the least sacks and pressures of any guard last year.

He gave up some plays at the end of last year, like most of our OL, but the dude had cracked ribs. To be playing at all is just a testament to what we already knew about his toughness. Always been a Yanda fan, much appreciation for his hard work here.
