Xbox Ring Of Death

Yeah, so I literally just got it. I know this is common so does anyone on here know what to do? How to fix it?

I googled it but I really don't feel like opening my xbox and cleaning stuff out, plus I would probably make it worse. lol

Any thoughts/solutions?

Instead of giving it a quick fix by yourself, I recommend just sending it into Microsoft so they can fix it permanently or give you a new one or whatever they do I'm a PS3 guy so I dont know. But I tried to fix my PS3 by myself and it worked but only for short periods of time until I just got a new one when I should have just sent the old one into Sony. But it's up to you of course.

I fixed my brothers once and it worked great for about 6 weeks before it got the RROD again. It's quite simple to do but it's only a temporary fix as far as I can tell.

How long have u had the box? If its still under warranty, send it back. If not, you're better off buying a new one

I bought a used one from a friend about 3-4 years ago. I've never had any problems with it until last night. I gave it 10 minutes and it turnt back on. I know that before it happened it turnt off by itself a few times.

Are your power connections okay and everything? I was scared out of my mind I had the RROD but I just re-did the power cable, made sure it was right, then turned it back on and it was ok.

My power went out like 3 times yesterday before it happened. It's done it before but it never had the 3 rings flash red. I'm going to try and clean it real good later, check all my plugs and hopefully it wont do it again. Xbox support is a joke.

You can say that again. You're lucky if you get a response at all.

... ^_^

But a few days ago I renewed my gold on there. Hopefully it doesn't break down, because I don't have the money to buy another one for awhile. I know I was on hold with them for probably 40-45 minutes before they could help me. Same this morning.

I can't remember it right now but if it still turns on and runs at all try wrapping it in a towel when ur not using it..
Seriously

Try googling that.. We did it a few years back at a media store me and a buddy owned to one of our boxes. It was some trick he knew to prolong the inevitable..

Yep do this. Mine happened a few years ago RIGHT before I deployed and had to pack up my stuff to ship ahead. I was heated. I sent it to Microsoft had to get it forwarded to me once it came back. Pain in the butt for sure but much better than risking opening it up yourself.

My xbox got the red ring a year or two back. I looked up on youtube that by leaving it on and wrapping it in a towel for awhile you can get rid of the red ring. Did it to my friends xbox a year ago. Neither system has had a remission since.

Wrapping it in a towel works, so does putting it in a box and running a blow-dryer through the vents for about 15 minutes.... If you want to absolutely fry every other part on your motherboard.

Try keeping your unit clean/dust-free and in a cool environment free of blockage so that it can breathe, and not in an enclosed area.

RROD happens when the solder seperates between the motherboard and the CPU/GPU integrated in your XBOX. ONLY way to safely repair(temporarily) your XBOX is to remove the outer casing/HDD/internal power supply/etc.. and temporarily heat up the solder under the CPU while firmly locking the motherboard onto a flat platform. This of course only is intended if your XBOX is not under warranty (void once opened) and you need to get valuable information out of you're unit.

Otherwise give it a try and wrap it in a towel... hopefully it doesn't overheat, surge then start a fire in your house. :)

I haven't fired up my Xbox since I built my PC two weeks ago, but watch it red-ring as soon as I turn it on for the first time.
