I second that. He deserves to get paid the market price, so i think it's disrespectful for him to get paid less, but Ray is a team player and he deserves every penny of what he's got.
If ANYONE deserves AP or CJ2K money it's Ray Rice.

Definitely a good deal for both sides. I'm happy we didn't break the bank. It's a great move due to Rice's receiving abilities. Now we can focus on Flacco & Reed. I hope a deal gets done there too.

Ray was going to most likely miss games if he didn't get signed. Good thing it got done. Still don't understand why players miss games on the tag when you can't get a deal done till next offseason anyways. Regardless he has been classy through the whole process.

Slightly off topic, but you could also argue that not even Drew Brees and Peyton Manning deserved the deals that they got. 20 million is like 1/6 of the total salary cap committed to 1 player - an important player, but still one guy nonetheless.

Im just worried that we will have a Revis situtation right now after the first three years especially if he is still playing at a high level. He could hold out for more money with only getting $3m in each on the last two years.

He'll be what 28, 29? I guess we would just handle him like McGahee when that time comes.
...I'm not worried about it though. We'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it lol.

I hate when players pull this crap. They complain they're underpaid at the end of their contracts after its front-loaded. Should be viewed as 8m/year for 5 years.
You know it wont though, well it would be a first. I think its the only reason we got him signed so cheaply. His agent told him, after year 3, you hold out and you get another deal. Its a three year 29mil contract, and then he will want another one imo.

Not even AP or CJ2K...

Those deals will probably looked back on like the Haynesworth contract.

I agree with Ravens<3 - He'll be 28, be under a contract HE NEGOTIATED for 2 more years, and if his rushing attempts stay about where they've been for the last 3 years, he will be somewhere close to 1800 carries for his career. I've said this before, but I think the average lifespan for a runningback is somewhere between 2000-3000 carries, and most of the guys I'm thinking of are/were multiple pro-bowlers/MVP types like Marshall Faulk, LT, Shaun Alexander, etc. i.e. the elite runningbacks. Not to mention Rice, as strong as he is, is smaller than all of those guys. 28 might just be the point where his numbers start to fall off anyway.

Nothing will ever be as bad as THAT deal, IMO. Snyder paid 100 million for a guy who never started more than 14 games in any of his first 7 NFL seasons and who was known to be a guy with weight and work ethic issues.

Congrats guys. Also couldnt help but notice how similar it is to Fosters. Both 5 years AF gets 43 mil with 20 mil guaranteed Rice gets 40 mil with 24 mil guaranteed while in the first two years Rice gets 25 mil Foster gets 30 mil. Eerily similar.

Rice is paid : 17mill this year , 8m after that, then on 3rd year 5mill.

My hope is that he WONT ask for a raise and hold out on his 3rd year.

That might be a time when his agent start picking Ravens FO brains and start causing drama. Hope they can keep these agents under control.
thats what i think will happen, just like revis now. I think its a huge reason he "settled" for 8mil a year average, because after the first three 3year and 29 mil, theres a huge chance he will hold out for another deal.

but the ravens may let him because at that age he could be, maybe already have, drop off.

Apparently he found the negotiations difficult and broke down in tears when he got the contract. I can't see him trying to renegotiate after his salary drops since he's getting so much front loaded!

Now if we can manage to sign Flacco for around 12 million a year (again under market value but like Rice I think Flacco is a team guy), we will have our 27 year old franchise quarterback AND 25 year old franchise runningback for about the same value as 33 year old Drew Brees, and just 4 million more than 36 year old Peyton Manning.

Good thing, the Ravens know how to take care of their players. Ray Rice is an unselfish and dedicated player who deserved the big paycheck. I say it's a good price for one of the most productive backs in the game.

This opens up the franchise tag for Flacco next year, which I think should help us negotiate his contract.

what a great signing, more guranteed money but less money overall for duration of contract. Perfect deal especially with the way Ray Rice runs, I think he may have one of the longer careers for a RB. Fingers crossed.

I would not be surprised if we see Flacco getting an extension in the near future as I think it would be much smarter to franchise Ed Reed between the two.

Ray Rice got paid!

But instead of running him into the ground, I think we should use a RB Platoon (Pierce, Allen, or other young bodies to take hits) and use more WR Sets instead of Heavy sets to preserve him for the playoffs. We all know what he can do when he's rested and explosive (Ex: Patriots 2009).

Best thing about Rice is that he can catch and averaged 72 reps the past 3 years.

I think it's best to limit his carries to 250 to preserve him as much as possible.

I think it might be best for Rice to hand over the short goalline duty to the younger, bigger and fresh legged bruisers Bernard Pierce and Anthony Allen.

Rice will get plenty of opportunities as a 3rd Down / Passing Situation Back.

That Rice/McGahee combo back in 2009 was gold!!!!
