Official: Ravens sign RB Ray Rice

I love front-loaded deals like this, especially for running-backs. People probably don't want to think about this right now, but he'll be 30 by the time this contract ends, and late-20s early 30s is the time their production starts to wane. He'll be worth every penny of the money he makes every single year of this contract, that I guarantee.

Looking at the salaries of all the other RBs I would say we got a steal.
I was thinking the same thing. Rice is better than most if not all of those running backs.

He definitely took less than market value. Hopefully that's because he values titles over dollars. And hopefully Joe will see the same thing and take less than market value as well.

That's where you pray that Flacco Isn't superbowl MVP.

I'd be ok with figuring out the MVPs contract value...

So pumped, I thought he would get 9M a year for sure but I'm sure rice is happy with this deal. 17M the first year and 24 guaranteed! Ray rice, his mom and the rest of his family are set for life. Congrats bro, you really deserve it

YA BABY! Ozzie is the man! Now i dont have to kill him... haha
Might have to yell at him for all these heart attacks though

Just think. If Ozzie keeps doing this we'll have this happen two more times with Flacco and Reed next year.

God help my poor heart, think I might just go live in a cave until it's all settled

I'll sit back and relax with the whole Flacco deal because Oz will make it happen HIS way. And i dont see Ed playing past this year.
But this whole Ray Ray thing got me going man!

5-year, $35 million dollar contract, $17 mil in first year. See, that's what I like about the Baltimore Ravens players. They don't try to squeeze out every cent.

I wouldn't have paid Rice that much, but it's better than I thought we would do. I believe the contract is front loaded, and we signed him for less than Foster and McCoy. Overall, it's not the franchise killer a CJ2K deal would have been, and with smart contract structuring we should be able to keep Flacco, Torrey, and some of the OL intact. I'm just glad Ray and Ed will be coming off of the books soon.

If I had to guess, we can add a pack of gum and that's about it. Maybe that's not such a bad idea. Gum might help our bloody receivers catch passes to win playoff games for once.

I assume you mean Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. Are they dead weight in your opinion? I bet you'd love to give Flacco Brees money.

I think the price is perfect. 8m seems like a right price for #1 scrimmage yard RB.

I second that. He deserves to get paid the market price, so i think it's disrespectful for him to get paid less, but Ray is a team player and he deserves every penny of what he's got.
If ANYONE deserves AP or CJ2K money it's Ray Rice.

I didn't want to invest money in a running back. But at this price you can't go wrong. very very reasonable deal. Great deal for the team actually

For those asking:
Most importantly from an internal accounting standpoint, the contract reduces Rice’s cap number in 2012 from $7.7 million to $5 million, creating an extra $2.7 million in much-needed space. Previously, the Ravens had less than $700,00 in wiggle room.
