Would you be willing to give him a SB ring ala the Colts with Edgerrin James? Or would you be opposed to it since he didn't play out his deal or whatever the case was? I know the Colts situation was a little bit different because James contract was up when he left. Still just asking the question.

I said No while I'm truely undecided lol. If Ed walked away I'm sure winning a superbowl would sorely help me get over it.

No, he wouldn't be on the roster. Honestly Ed is being childish, not because he's holding out. But because he doesn't have an agent. And he's making 7 million dollars which is PLENTY. If he wants a new deal he can get one next year. More importantly if he wants a new deal he should hire an agent.

Would give one to Mason before Ed. Ed left the team ( in this scenario) where mason got cut. But Ed will play

Same sentiment. Don't think Ed will leave, either.

I'm Ed Reed's biggest fan. I had his jersey before they even sold it. Had to "personalize" one to get his jersey back then.

And with all that said, I voted no. If you're not on the team the year they win the Super Bowl, then you didn't win the Super Bowl. It's really not complicated.

Reed will be in the hall of fame. He'll be in the Ravens Ring of Honor. And hey, hopefully he ends up playing this season and he DOES win a Super Bowl. And without a huge improvement from the offense, I don't see the Ravens being able to do that without Reed back to making plays like he did in 2010, or in the AFC Championship last year against the Patriots.

He has selfish reasons to play this year, as he's very close to some NFL all-time records. So we'll see how it goes. If I'm the Ravens, I think keeping #52 and #20 happy is very important, as those are some very great football minds that I certainly would love to have stay with the organization at football coaches, life coaches for the players, or pretty much any other facet where they can help the team.

Shoot, I still wish the Ravens reached out to Mason before he retired. I don't care if he's "old," I think he offers more to Flacco than Boldin does. Boldin had a nice 2nd half against the Patriots in the AFC championship, but most of it was on 1 long catch and run... and he was invisible most of the regular season. Mason just runs better routes, is quicker, and he especially runs the kind of routes that Flacco is actually good at throwing... those comeback routes on the sidelines. I guess I'm one of the few, but I think he still had good football left.

Hopefully he will stop the drama on our path towards a championship. If he does walk away from the team then he doesn't deserve it as he would quit on the team. If you don't want to be here through the stuggles you don't deserve the glory.

I'm willing to bet anything that if Mason and Boldin played this season, Boldin would do better by far.

If he had good football left, the Ravens, Jets, and Texans wouldn't agree. He's done.

Go ahead and take a couple looks on youtube at what Boldin did in the Arizona comeback win and the game winning drive at Pittsburgh last year

Ed is more a Raven than anyone here. He puts his heart into the game season after season, and even walking away from the team now couldn't take that away from him. He's had his share of problems over the past few years that he's been dealing with. Just because he missed offseason workouts and might want more money doesn't mean we should start questioning his dedication to the team after all we've seen from him. Playing injured. Playing with his brother missing. Of course I would give him an honorary ring for what he's done for the team.

But doing all that stuff didn't contribute to the hypothetical Superbowl.

If you're not on the roster, you didn't contribute to the season or Superbowl victory. Therefore, no ring.

Coaches aren't on the roster, they didn't contribute to the season? They shouldn't get a ring? I think plenty of players would attest to Ed helping them become better players.

Coaches are members of the organization...

In the hypothetical situation Reed would not be a member of the team in any way. Therefore he did not contribute to the wins. Therefore, he doesn't get a ring.

Why would he even want one that he didn't win?
This. I don't think I could accept a Superbowl ring that I didn't earn.

Nope. Not on the field and or roster in said season.... Nope... NO ring for Ed. I would say the same for Ray.

Do you not realize that playing football requires a sacrifice? Ed took years off his life playing for this team. He risked damaging his physical and mental health for the team. And just because he has a life outside of football that he needs to take care of, you think he doesn't deserve a ring? Each team gets extra rings when they win the Super Bowl. I don't think there are many people out there that are more deserving of a ring than Ed, even if he spends 2012 with his family.

I realize it. That doesn't mean he gets a ring. He has earned a ring throughout his career, but the idea of giving him a ring he didn't win is just kind of stupid. What is the significance of that ring? It's like saying "You had nothing to to with this win (or the entire season for that matter) but here's a thank you for playing a game that you made a choice to play. We understand you left us for greener pastures and more money, and we were wrong, so here's a Superbowl ring"

That is not how life works.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority and say "no". Granted, Ed did a lot for the team while he was here but walking away is walking away. If Reed walks away and the Ravens organization give him a Super Bowl ring -- then they might as well give them to everyone on this forum. After watching the Ravens for nearly two decades now, I've damaged my physical & mental health for the team (don't act like you don't get nervous every time Joe throws a ball 20 feet in the air and about 50 yards downfield into double coverage -- heart attack waiting to happen).

But, I also have to agree, while Reed is talking a big game -- I don't see him walking away from the game at this point. We're standing on the edge of Super Bowl, now is not the time. [s]If[/s] When we win a SB this year, then he won't even care about that deal cause he'll be retiring.

No, Ed played for the MONEY.... He has been compensated for his greatness. The Ravens are also ready to continue paying him based on his contract ( which has 2 years left)..... Sure, Ed loves the game... we ALL love the game... Ed is certainly not a millionaire without the NFL ... It's pretty obvious to me hes not much of a "bidness man"... Besides, would Ed even want a ring if he wasn't on the field? I know I wouldnt... Thats for sure..

I agree. I don't think he should hold the franchise hostage but we certainly need him. I'd love to see him put up his 2010 numbers this season and cap it with a SB win. Then he could walk away if he chose too and I'd certainly be satisfied (if he retired not went to another team!).
