Joe Flacco's price just went up.

I wonder what a QB Franchise Tag will be in 2013. Probably $18 Million.

It might be wise to sign Joe Flacco a contract similar to Michael Vick because the price of a Franchise QB is going to be ridiculous.

Drew Brees is one heck of a quarterback and with that receiving corp the Saints have, I would never count them out even with the suspensions. They may even rally past their recent turmoil.

I don't think this affects Joe's contract. Brees and Joe are in different classes.

Definitely. But, if the Ravens get into a bind, the franchise tag price will be up, like Corvus said.

Brees may be the only thing that will help them get past their problems and Brees earned every penny of this contract. Also I don't think this effects Joe much unless we win the Super Bowl this year but it certainly did make things worse for the Packers who have Aaron Rodgers' contract up in 2015, the Bears who have Jay Cutler's contract ending soon, and specifically the Texans who may go through the same thing with Schaub who is in his last year of his deal.

Ohhhh gotcha. That sucks, does this limit our options to who we can resign? Reed Rice and Joe are gonna need a lot of money soon. Joe needs to be taken care of first IMO. No franchise tag for him next year.

This will affect Flacco's contract. The price just went up on QBs, regardless of whether Flacco & Brees are in the same class. If Coke goes up in price, so will the price of generic cola. It just happens.

As for the tag, I don't think that will be affected for a while though I can be mistaken. With the contracts Peyton got as well as Brees', I am sure it will increase the cost though I don't know when. I don't think it happens the next year, though.

I am glad it's done. I was sick of hearing about it.

One thing I'm hoping is that somehow this is an indication we will sign Rice. Not that they're the same, but I thought the Brees situation was as dire as the Rice one seems to be, and they managed to get a deal done in time anyway. I hope we can do the same with Ray.

Why does anyone need that much money? ego? pride? he's the best player on the Saints but that's a team killer in the long run. Why not 15 million? why wasnt 18 million enough?

Great point. He probably rakes in as much as any other NFLer in advertisements, endorsements, appearances, etc. Money shouldn't be that big an issue for him but, apparently, it was.

I always wonder about this myself. Guys have to know that the more they make, the less the team has to spend on quality pieces around them. Then again, Brees is 33 and has already had one potentially career ending injury - as unselfish a guy as he's made out to be, I think that has something to do with it. Not to mention, all these guys seem to have this notion that if they take less than their peers, somehow they are admitting they're not as good as the others.

On another note, this deal has to have the agents of guys like Eli, Joe, Matt Ryan, Stafford, Rodgers, etc., salivating.
