I wouldn't go as far as saying he has the lead just because he kicked the longest FG among the two but they are on equal ground right now. I still think Tucker wins the battle in the end.
Well, actually I guess Cundiff is in the lead until the day he gets cut, but so far in camp, Tucker is leading both in number of good kicks, and longest length.

Yeah, that's the problem with PS games, you can't really do that and there is no pressure.
That is always a tough problem. In the past, they have ended practice early if a kicker makes a kick. But that is no where close to the type of game pressure we need.

But Cundiff will look great in PS and TC. That's fine and dandy until the time the pressure is on, its 40 yards and its on the wrong hash mark.

I really don't know who I really want to kick for us this year. I'm leaving that up to the coaches.

I really don't care who can kick a 57 yard FG, it is a cool novelty. I just want a kicker who can make a 32 yarder under pressure to keep our SB dreams alive.

The race this year won't be who can kick the most or the farthest. But who shows the most consistency, especially when the game is on the line. Coaches need to find ways to put the pressure on. Like allowing practice to end early if a kicker can belt a 40 yarder with a full rush.
I care a bit. It's quite the luxury when you do have a kicker that can consistently kick 55+ yard field goals. Points are points, and if you can make long field goals consistently, that's just awesome.

Yeah but last time, that resulted in choosing the wrong Kicker so hopefully this time the Coaches truly pick the best one and I believe that will be Tucker. They have an indoor facility right? Why not take both Cundiff and Tucker into the indoor facility, pipe in crowd noise to simulate a 4th quarter game winning Kick that they would feel in the regular season.

The only problem I have with that is, remember, we rushed Billy out onto the field because on the sideline, we thought it was third down. Harbs should have called timeout to give Billy a chance a to catch his breath and prepare himself a little more. Billy also should have called a TO for the same reason. They both choked, it happens.

I AM more worried about 1/6 outside of 50 yards and not one but TWO 43 yard misses in the rain.

Our coaches are so conservative that none of our kickers will get many chance to kick 55+ field goals in a game. They'd rather pin the opposing offense deep, then by chance miss a 55+ field goal and give the opposing team great position. That's just our style.

But I won't lie, I'll be the first one out of my seat if we get a 55+ FG to win the game.

Thing is, have we ever had a Kicker who we could sit there and be confident enough that he would make a 55+ yard field goal? Maybe Stover could but I don't think he ever could either. Tucker has at least shown that he can Kick Long Distance Field Goals so far, and if he keeps it up, maybe he could become our Kicker and the coaching staff could have confidence in him to put him in to kick 50+ FG to win the game.

Plus there is pressure between the two. Tucker is a rookie trying to get the starting job from a expierenced vet in Cundiff who is trying to keep it. Teams usually don't carry 2 kickers so it's make or break for both of them.

It's still going to take some time to gain trust from this conservative staff. Because all it takes is one miss to win the game from 55+ yards and then one completed pass and the other team is kicking to win the game. All hell would break loose.

I can't see John risking that at this point in time. He'll take the game to overtime over the chance of missing a kick. That can change, but it will take time and I can't see John changing with a rookie kicker.

Everybody likes the back up kicker until he gets in the game...........Just sayin.................I like Tucker as well, but he needs a strong showing in preseason and then we can talk. I am dying to see what he can do.

Saw his interview with the staff guys, I forget if it was Downing or Mink

Seems an extremely confident young man
I'd be nervous as can be if I was competing for a job

Confidence is key, this job is pretty much all mental anyway

I feel we keep Cundiff, because we are scared to go with a rookie in such a crucial season for this franchise.
Cundiff has a lot to prove, he was awful ALL season, aside from the last game.
Kicking is all mental, and Billy has lost his confidence, hes a tainted kicker in my opinion, I have zero confidence in Cundiff.
Id much prefer to go with Justin Tucker. Excellent college stats, proven clutch kicker.

Its not like Billy is some rook either. He has bounced around 10 teams in the last 10 years. If the guy was worth anything, he would have shown it by now. It was a HUGE mistake giving him that contract, considering the new kick off rules nullified his value. Ravens should have used a 4th or 5th on the top kicker in the draft.
Think about it. 4th or 5th will most likley be working at macdonals in 3 years based on avg life of a player. I would rather take someone the equiv of a 1st round tallent, who is easier to grade than a 4th or a 4th corner or WR who will never pan out.

To be honest Billy Kicking the football for us feels a lot like a rookie kicker anyway. I can't even count how many times i was holding my breath last year. Message to Tucker......... please win this job, i would rather struggle with a rookie than a vet.

the thing with cundiff is that he really had just one good year. last season was very bad. if it wash´t for the big contract he would´t even be on the team right now.

i don´t judge him for the one missed field goal against the pats. everybody is allowed to make mistakes. that´s only human. but he missed everything over 50 yards and wash´t able to kick the ball out of the end zone on kick offs. maybe he was some kind of hurt all year.

if the coaches trust him- i will be rooting for him. but if tucker gets the job, he would have earned it. coaches decision. they know best!!

I really hope Tucker gets a real shot. I want to say I am ok with Cundiff still being a Raven but the truth is as much as I want to I have not forgiven him or Lee Evans for their failure last year. I know I should be able to but I just have not gotten past it.

I think the issue with Billy is, is that after that shank hes gonna get crucified after every future miss. So are the people who chose to keep him around.

Has anyone heard anything regarding the Kicking Battle, does anyone have a slight edge and has been performing well in Practice?

I read on the home page Tucker has a slight lead he's 20 for 20 and billy is 18 for 19. Billy missed a 40 something yarder wide left in yesterdays practice.

Well he missed a 32 yarder Wide Left so what else is new? If he truly missed it wide left, he's in trouble. I give it to the second PS game and Tucker is named the starter for the season before the third PS game.

After Aaron Wilson's tweet today, it seems that Tucker is 23/24 while Billy is 21/23. Both of them missed 55 yarders today.

Yea Billy missed his wide left and Tucker missed wide right. That was just in team practice, Tucker seemed much more accurate then Cundiff when they were off to the side kicking with their coaches. I saw Billy miss at least 2, but don't know the distance as I was too far away and was only half playing attention.

During the early part of practice, the team worked on KO and it was clear that Tucker clearly has the stronger leg. His KOs were deep into the endzone and often times out of the endzone.

To be honest, from what I saw, Tucker has a slight edge, but it'll take more then a slight edge to take the job from Billy imo. Preseason will really be the test for these guys, practice just seems way too easy for both guys.

Very interesting that Tucker has the stronger leg on kickoffs. I was thinking that Billy's skills on kickoffs would help his case to beat out Tucker, but with your observations, it may be the other way around. This is quite the position battle.
