I see Justin Tucker winning this battle and Cundiff being cut. I think Tucker gives us more in terms of Leg Strength and clutch ability than Cundiff does. I think Tucker may finally be the Kicker that is a long term solution, not a stop gap.
It should be interesting. Last time we had a close kicking competition between Graham and Cundiff, the team stuck with Billy. It was close during that TC/PS. I feel like the team had Billy pegged from the beginning. Ofcourse Billy went on to have a monster year.

Now I think they are going to give this competition much more merit. Hopefully they get a lot of attempts in PS.

Competition brings the best out of everyone. Hopefully one of the kickers proves to be better than the other and becomes a more reliable option. I hope it's Tucker.

Lol. How do you determine that tucker is clutch? I'll never say billy is, but still. What are you basing this on?
Well Tucker said it himself that Clutch Kicking is his specialty. He also backed it up by saying he has never missed a 4th Quarter FG in College Football ever. So I would say not missing any 4th quarter kicks would mean your clutch. Plus I'm still amazed at the video where he kicked a 70 Yard FG with wind and still had room to spare before the ball came anywhere to not being good.

Well saying what he said was a very smart thing to say considering who he's trying to beat out. ;)

I'd like to know how many 4th quarter kicks he's had to make and from what distances and also if a win was on the line before awarding him as "clutch"

Call me old fashioned but I still believe talk is cheap.

Only video I can find is a 40 Yard Game Winning FG he made against Texas A & M to win the game.

I don't know why, but I really just have a feeling Tucker's going to win the job.

Wide to the left by a mile from the 32 should put you on the Browns this year, Billy boy.
Not another Stover Haushka ordeal. We dont need 2 kickers. If Billy is inconsistent like he has been all last season, and Tucker is knocking em dead, then Billy needs to kick rocks...no pun intended

Reading John Eisenberg's Training Camp Preview on Special Teams. He said there is no veteran kicker to compete with Cundiff because the word around the league is that Billy was expect to retain the job barring any type of meltdown.

Also Kevin Byrne basically said the same thing in his Byrne Identity: Just Saying peice a couple of weeks back. I think he said the Ravens offered a few veteran kickers the opportunity to come in and compete with Billy Cundiff and nobody wanted to.

So it sounds like the popular belief is that Cundiff has a stranglehold on the Kickers position and it won't be a true competition.

[u]I can't figure how 85.2 (Jr. year) and 81.0 (Sr. year) making a career 83.3 average spells no competition for Cundiff, lol

Tucker's stats.: http://www.sports-re...n-tucker-1.html

Tucker's 40 yrd.clutch kick to win the game ( don't forget A & M iced him and he still made that kick!)

Checkout some of the other videos of Tucker at the end, especially the Interview.

If Cundiff makes this team imagine what M&T is going to sound like the first time he misses. I'm hoping for Tucker on that alone. I'm not sure you redeem yourself after something like that unless you kick us into the super bowl this year.

Who cares what M&T sounds like when Billy misses a kick? He missed it and the sooner Baltimore fans get over it, the better it'll be for everybody. He's a professional and nobody knows better than he does the pressure he's gonna face if he stays on the team this year. Please. There's nothing he needs to 'redeem' himself for. He missed a dang kick. Evans totally flubbed a ball that was in his hands in the endzone. That's football. Billy didn't do it on purpose, and the sooner we let it go and support the guy since he's still on our team, the better it's gonna be.

Uh, it's not different..I expect every player to do better if they mess something up, but in no way do I expect them to have to 'redeem' themselves, as if they've personally assaulted me or the city of Baltimore. I want Billy to excel this year if he makes the team, but I don't think he needs to redeem himself to anybody but himself..what I'm saying is that if the team was big enough (RIGHT after the game too) to say, 'This loss is on all of us, not one man,' then we as fans should be just as big about it and let it go. He doesn't owe us anything, broski.
While yes it was more than just him, it shouldnt have come down to that kick. But if someone makes a mistake, the next time they come out they have to redeem themselves, even outside of football, you make a mistake, you redeem yourself.

Players often say after mistakes they have to redeem themselves. you seem to be a cundiff fan, and are therefore trying your best to stick up for him, but take personal feelings out of it. You make a mistake, in life, football, nba, baseball, you come out the next time and redeem yourself, everyone does and says that.

Tucker should have a good chance of winning the job if it really is an open and fair competition.

Aside from 1 fluke season Billy Cundiff has barely been a serviceable kicker and the one chip-shot miss in the AFCCG was the climax of a terrible season overall.

People need to stop defending him like he's a key player on our team that has done wonderful things for us and other teams in the past. He's an average-at-best kicker and the sooner everyone realises that the better.

I'd rather have Tucker in a clutch situation. I don't care if Tucker hasn't proven he can do it because Billy has proven he can't.

I get what you mean, while he hasnt proven himself, he hasnt failed in the clutch either. So youd rather take your chances with the untested guy than the tried, tested and failed guy.

Billy did walk out and address the press right after the AFCCG. That says alot about him. He could have just said nothing and went home

Regardless of that, I dont want to see him in Purple and Black this season. He was wayyyyyy too inconsistent ```````1 for a Super Bowl bound team. He missed every kick outside 45yds.

edit: those quotation marks and the number 1 is my 11month olds first contribution to writing as a Ravens fan! He was upset when Cundiff missed too :(

lol..Evans was canned because of him being injured for most of the year, and when he came back his performance was lacking..it had nothing to do with the one pass in the AFCCG.

As of today, Tucker still has the lead. Both had an equal amount of opportunities, and neither missed, but Tucker nailed the longest FG (57 yards).

I wouldn't go as far as saying he has the lead just because he kicked the longest FG among the two but they are on equal ground right now. I still think Tucker wins the battle in the end.

I really don't care who can kick a 57 yard FG, it is a cool novelty. Our coaches are so conservative that they won't get many opportunities to kick long ones. I just want a kicker who can make a 32 yarder under pressure to keep our SB dreams alive.

The race this year won't be who can kick the most or the farthest. But who shows the most consistency, especially when the game is on the line. Coaches need to find ways to put the pressure on. Like allowing practice to end early if a kicker can belt a 40 yarder with a full rush.

Yeah, that's the problem with PS games, you can't really do that and there is no pressure.

How about Harbaugh buys the whole team icecream, if Cundiff can make a 30 yard field goal with players circled around staring hard at him???? .....
...... No?.. Okay. (._.)
