Obviously the Jets interest in our kicker competition is a sign that they like TUCKER. I mean, he said he likes both kickers, but Tucker is doing a much better job than Billy. I think what they're saying is they may try to nab whoever we don't keep. I say that's a vote of confidence for Tucker, so keep Tucker for goodness sake and let the Jets gamble on Billy!

They need Tucker to score points. TD's are gonna be rare for the Jets this year.

I REALLY hope that the coaching staff means it when they say they have no qualms about having a rookie kicker. I mean, Matt Stover, Jason Hanson, Adam Vinatieri - they were all rookies once. This kid has earned it.

All I can remember is last season we had to go for it on some 4th downs that would have been kickable 50 to 55 yard field goals because the team had no faith in Billys ability to kick beyond 50. I don't feel it's Billy's job to lose and I can't believe our FO has a bout of amnesia in the aspect of getting a turnover on downs instead of 3 points because they honestly didn't believe in him.

Cundiff finally had a perfect day, law of averages at work I suppose. Does anyone know if Tucker has actually missed anything within 40 yards? It seems like all of his misses have been long kicks.

The one that Tucker missed was a bad snap. Koch juggled it.

Still Tucker's range is pretty impressive. He makes those 50 yards like cake.

Seems to me, that Billy can only have a perfect day, whenever he refuses to make long kicks. Isn't the main reason why this guy has even a shot for the job, the fact that he is more "experienced" and that he wouldn't fold under the presure of an important kick? He is already afraid of taking difficult kicks in the pre-season, how is this going to change for the better?

i dont get all the talk about teams not wanting to take a risk on rookie kickers... arent they all rookies at some point? (sorry just had to get that off my chest)
Along those same lines I drives me nuts when people say a SuperBowl team should have a veteran kicker they can count on the make the clutch kick. We KNOW Cundiff can't make the clutch kick so it's a moot point. Give the rookie a chance.

Can you imagine the pressure Cundiff would be under if he is put in the same situation next year? At 33 and missing consecutive game winning kicks in the playoffs his career could be over. Whereas at least with Tucker he's a young guy who can overcome some mistakes. Heck Haushka and Gano are still kicking in the NFL for crying out loud!

I think that notion comes from Adam Vinatieri, where he won the rings for Brady and Peyton.

Missing 32 yard field goals in the biggest game of your life sounds very clutch to me.

That was rushed. Kickers have routines before kicking. He barely had time to do his thing. Hike was at 1.5 seconds or something when Cundiff got on at like 7 or 5 seconds. Besides we don't know if Tucker is clutch.

I see where your coming from with all this and I understand it. I just think it's time to part ways with ol' Billy. He was rushed but he had the power to call a TO if he needed one. He should have did that, who knows we probably won't be having this conversation right now.

Still he should have made it.
And that, plus everything else I've mentioned over and over again, should definitely be reason enough to part ways with him.

Also Johns fault too. He could have called it. If Billy is realease I want him to retire. I like him way to much for him to be on the Jets. Billy did good in camp though today. Btw how are people allowed to see the practices?

Unless you mean the public practices, they won either the Flock giveaway or the lottery.
And again, it's not just that kick!
John messed up too, he should of called a timeout. I guess he had to much faith that his kicker would hit a 32 yarder in like 7 seconds. It was a lot of chaos going on at the time. A timeout should of been called no doubt, but Billy should have been more ready.

I like him as a person too, but it's just time to move on from him. Imagine how bad it will affect him as soon as he misses that first kick at the bank. Me as a fan can't watch Cundiff kick and have any confidence that he would make it. Talents like Tucker don't come around that often. Dude is a rookie making some ridiculous kicks so far. I want Tucker plus his upside more then I want to see Cundiff again. Billy missing that kick is just an extra reason.

If they were they'd be telling us how bad Tucker is while Cundiff is crushing everything. 3 seconds to go, 45 yards out, at Heinz Field the Steelers would rather see Billy lining up to take that kick. Fact.

As far as clutch goes (and I feel this should be my area of expertise) Billy is not. Never has been, never will be. He's more of a choker, but that would suggest that he's very good most of the time but screws up in the clutch, which is also incorrect. To summarise, Billy's not very good. At all. In the slightest.

That's one of the worst excuses I have ever heard. It was a freaking 32 yarder. I had a high school teammate make a 35 yarder, in pouring rain, 32 degrees, and on a grass field. If a HS kicker can make a kick in those circumstances, why can't Cundiff make an easier kick? Cundiff has no excuses.

Also, Tucker has never missed a 4th quarter kick.

Look up Justin Tucker clutch on Youtube and he kicked a 40 Yard FG against Texas A & M to win the game. a 40 YARD field goal late in the 4th to win a huge game. Cundiff missed a 32 yard game tying field goal. How much more clutch do you need Tucker to be, I mean he has never missed a 4th quarter kick in College.

I have a bad feeling that Cundiff will be kept at the expense of Tucker... I don't know what it is, but its just a feeling. Tucker definitely deserves that job, and no I do not hate on Cundiff although he is a horrible kicker according to his stats excluding the anomaly of 2010, but I guess its just a feeling. I hope I'm wrong...

I hope that Harbaugh ponders this thought long and hard before he even thinks of releasing Tucker and keeping Cundiff. We the fans will never be comfortable that Cundiff can make any kick regardless of field position. This will make the offense press harder to make the high risk play on 3rd down rather than letting Cundiff kick from anywhere outside of 30 yards.

Not that it matters, but they HAVE to know something about the huge number of fans who want the team to keep Tucker.
