Merged: Justin Tucker

Billy Cundiff is just too inconsistent. He misses all those easy kicks, and then Justin Tucker comes in and nails almost every one right through the uprights.
That alone should be enough.

I know there's still 3 preseason games and a lot of TC to go but seems to me 2 misses by Cundiff, one within 30 yds and another within 40 yds, means Cundiff is losing this battle.

Actually this is the last week of TC, so there isn't much time left. Time is getting short for not only Cundiff but for all the guys who are in position battles but are either dealing with injury or just seem to be falling behind. I think Reid, Doss and Peirce returning were huge for those guys because guys like KO, DT and Rainey were really practicing/playing well.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised to see Billy Cundiff among the first round of cuts. Why? Because after the full TC and 2 preseason games, if Tucker continues to be a 90% Kicker you have enough of a sample size to feel comfortable enough with him moving forward. There isn't much more you can expect to see from him because you just can't simulate the regular season in Preseason.

So at that point you would want to get Tucker as many game like reps as possible, you want to get him ready to kick a entire game, not split kicks with another guy. You want him to handle all the KOs, all the PATs and all the FGAs, even though he's a Kicker you want to test his game stamina. You want to know if his range chances from the 1st quarter to the 4th quarter. The focus switches from Tucker proving he can compete and hang with the veteran Billy Cundiff, to now making Justin Tucker the best possible kicker he can be for the Baltimore Ravens.

Billy Cundiff may only have about 4-5 more days as a Baltimore Raven.

To play Devil's advocate though, Harbs did say that while TC gave you a glimpse, the pressure of being in the actual games was where he got the best idea of a players ability. We may not get a winner declared until game 4 of the preseason.

Question and Comment from today's live chat with Harbs:

"Comment From Lucas: What's your opinion on the Cundiff and Tucker competition?"

John Harbaugh: "It's a good one. It's a tight race. The great thing about it is that they've both doing really well. I'm not concerned about it because they're both doing well. They're both going to be kicking for a team this year in the NFL. You let it play out and let the decision make itself."

Personally, I am not EVEN attempting to read anything into that one, lmao! :sofa:

It is only fair to release Cundiff well into the training camp season so he has a shot at making another team... in other words, the battle is won by Tucker, please release Cundiff...

I'll do it for you! At this rate, Billy's gone. Harbs said nothing about Billy's spot being a sure thing, even with that contract. That speaks volumes.

So far through camp Tucker is 82/87 (94%) and Cundiff is 74/89 (83%). That's 5 misses versus 15 misses.

If Cundiff misses anything at all on Friday vs. Detroit and Tucker doesn't, I definitely see Cundiff walking.

I'm all for the change but with a back up plan because nobody on squad is no Matt Stover and Stover didn't need a back up plan.

So, they are Matt Stover?

I honestly think the coaches are giving Billy Cundiff every opportunity to prove why he shouldn't be cut. I beleive they are fully aware of the hype machine and momentum that Tucker is building, and they want to continue to keep the "Competition" alive.

As I've said before, Cundiff isn't kicking poorly, 83% is really good for Cundiff, however, Tucker is just downright out kicking him. That's great because Tucker is being forced to Kick well to win, instead of winning just because Cundiff is choking.

I feel the Ravens want to atleast give Cundiff the opportunity to kick in a true game time situation before making the decision. As much as I want to see the offense light is up Friday and shut people up, I hope Cundiff get his Kicking opportunities early so Tucker is allowed to Kick as well. Hopefully both get a 45-50 yard attempt from the right or left hash.

A game winner would be great for one of these guys.

Man, if Tucker remains on fire and we drop him, then someone else will. Imagine if Tucker kicks for the Steeler. Shaun Suisham is only a career 79.5% kicker. With Tucker and his Sub 90% kicking, he can convert that extra 10% which could mean the difference between playoffs and Super Bowls.

Let Billy go to another team, cause we wouldn't worry too much about him when the game is the line and he had to kick a 55 yarder against us from the right hash.

I don't think a Cam Cameron offense has ever 'lit it up'.

Per Ravens Twitter account: Justin Tucker hits from 52 and 56 yards while Billy Cundiff missed both, wide right. One clanked off the post.

Tucker 5/5 today. Cundiff 0/2
I read 6 for 6 for Tucker ranging from 31 to 56 and 2 for 4 for Billy with the two misses being the ones above.
Either way, farewell Billy.

I've just read that Cundiff is now 3/5 too. They're obviously still at it!

Also read that after Cundiff missed from 56, Tucker made one from 56 despite a bad snap.

i dont know what the stats are to back this up but id say you could probably knock 10% of practice kicks for game time, roughly, over the course of peoples careers. Meaning Cundiff at this rate would kick about 70% Tucker about 85%. In fact there is probably no data to back that up at all, but you'd expect the % to drop in game situtations

:shark:

*Cues Jaws Music* That is exactly what is happening. Tucker is like the shark that just creeps along quietly waiting for his opportunity to strike.

I might be worried if Cundiff is missing all those kicks in training camp. If he's doing bad in practice, then there's a higher chance he'll do worse in gametime, where the points do count. He didn't so much poise when he screwed up that field goal in New England that was in range. Billy seems to kick most of his missed kick wide right.

I want the hot hand on the team. If Justin Tucker can make those 50 yarders as gimmes, then I bet our offensive production might go up per say 10%.
