Justin Tucker Remembers Billy As A Cowboy...

He must hate him. Haha

But in all seriousness I think Tucker is a better kicker. Billy isn't getting it done in practice. Last year wasn't the fluke year, the year before was. That was his only good season as a kicker and it was enhanced because of his touchbacks which is pretty much irrelevant now.

I understand the issue people have because of Hauschka but not everyone is the same. You don't just stop drafting QB's because of what happened with Jamarcus Russel. They are completely different people.

Cundiff was never very good during his whole career. His accuracy is questionable even more now since the big miss. I think that it would be better to take this competition down to the wire.

Hensley swears Tucker is no more than a camp leg. I gotta say, I keep hearing good things about him though....

Your right about that. He and Skip will be double tagging us now. Maybe they should just start dating.

I am pulling for Tucker to have a strong preseason and beat out Cundiff. I think it is sickening what Cundiff did to the team.

I like this kid alot after I researched him and watched videos of his game performances. I was very impressed with his stats, talent, work ethic and attitude. He seems full of confidence and doesn't seem easily rattled. I would rather this kid get a chance to develop his potential here as a Raven than have to meet him as an opponent!

NFL Network was re-running their 2002 Cowboys series and Billy Cundiff was fighting for a roster spot as a rookie kicker. Wouldn't you know it, in the pre-season he shanked an easy field goal to win the game. I know it was 10 years ago but that's not endearing.

Yep, very smart. He also said that he didn't miss any 4th quarter kicks in college as well. I don't know about you but between saying that he didn't miss any 4th quarter kicks and saying clutch kicking is his main strength, I have to say he was taking a shot at Billy!

I still can not get over that video of him where he kicks a 70 yard FG in windy conditions.

The kick is up and it's wide to the left. The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl. Fatso Wilfork is jumping with joy and laughing at the Ravens as they leave the field. I hope that Cundiff will be watching that you tube clip for eternity. Does anyone really forget something like that? I really hope that young Tucker is the real deal.

Kickers must have confidence that when they line up with the game on the line they come through for their team. Cundiff will never have our full support. That kick was replayed hundreds of times until I hope that he never sees another chance to blow another game for us again.

On Billy Cundiff,

"He added, 'I know he’s a good kicker, and he’s certainly done some good things. I’m going to do my thing and make the most of the opportunity. I feel like my strength is clutch kicking. You have to want to be in that position where the game’s on the line.'"

"I feel like my strength is clutch kicking." He doesn't even attempt to veil that statement. "He's certainly done some good things." Sounds like someone doesn't have much respect for Cundiff. I'm interested to see how this battle turns out. I don't think that Tucker has much of a shot unless he clearly outplays Cundiff. Harbaugh is a fan of veterans and players who have been in the system (which, on the plus side, is part of the reason why the Ravens have been so consistent over the years).

When you go into the lion's den...

He's got to stand out to win over the incumbent (with the big contract). So far he is, we'll see how the battle progresses.

Love it! This should be a great battle. If Tucker wins out and Cundiff is cut, will we save any money cap-wise?

I love Tucker but he's a longshot to unseat Billy at this point IMO, regardless of how Billy let the team down a couple of times last year. Doesn't mean I won't be watching to see how this shakes up. He's definitely got the right mentality in any case.

It's early yet, but so far he is out performing Cundiff. Many said that Cundiff's stand out year here was a fluke and he is known for failing under pressure.

Honestly, I've been trying to give Cundiff the benefit of the doubt here however, you would think that when they moved the kickoff he would have broken his previous record for touchbacks and he fell short of what he did originally. Add to that more misses and the debacle of the AFCCG and , well, perhaps he isn't the kicker of our future.

This is a battle I will be closely following during camp and pre-season.

I wonder how the team will handle kicking and kick-off duties come pre-season. Billy doing it in the first half and Tucker in the second seems reasonable, but I wouldn't be surprised if the coaches chose a different method.

i think the way they handle small things like that will give us fans a better indication of if this competition is legit.

If this is a true position battle, then we'll probably see Cundiff get most of the action in game one. Followed by Tucker in game 2 or vice versa. Then the 3rd game will determine who has the edge.

If it's just a situation where Tucker is here to push Billy to be better, then we will see Cundiff handling the normal kicking duties. With Tucker getting some late game clean up action.

I'm hoping day one Harbs gives these guys 10 game type FG attempts apeice, and just keep documentation of their numbers daily. Then come Aug 9th, whoever has the better numbers gets the first opportunity to impress.

I could see Cundiff winning out because he honestly probably kicks very well in camp and practices, you can't truly simulate the game time pressure in camp or practice, you can't truly test a kicker's psyche. I'm sure he hits 50 yarders all day in camp. The fact is we've seen how he performs in game time scenarios and he has shown that he is not good from long distance and he is not dependable in the clutch. He left 27 points on the field last year, he was 30th in FG%. He's going to be making $2.2 million this year.

I see Justin Tucker winning this battle and Cundiff being cut. I think Tucker gives us more in terms of Leg Strength and clutch ability than Cundiff does. I think Tucker may finally be the Kicker that is a long term solution, not a stop gap.

Lol. How do you determine that tucker is clutch? I'll never say billy is, but still. What are you basing this on?
