I knew he was well payed, but I did not know he was number 12 of Forbes wealthiest athlete list.

thats just incorrect, thats his guraenteed money. Well actually i suppose thats all it can be based on because he may not actually earn the rest, but its still not really what Ngata is worth, but i suppose thatd be hard to work out

Good for him, he deserves it.

I don't know Haloti personally but he seems like a modest guy so hopefully he won't blow it.

Per Forbes: "Ngata earned $37.1 million in salary and bonuses from the Baltimore Ravens over the last 12 months—more than any other athlete playing a team sport."

Daamn, that's some serious money right there. Well deserved though.

The qualification of "last 12 months" is the key here because it encompasses two season - since the lockout pushed the league year back into last August.

The $37.1M is made up of his $25M signing bonus (paid last Sept), his $2.1M base salary last year and the $10M option bonus paid in March. While all paid within the last calendar year, it's money paid over 2 seasons, so the articles is a bit misleading. Still a boat load of money, though.

He's nowhere near one of the wealthiest athletes. There are using a very tight window of the last 12 months.

Over the next 12 months, he'll only make $2.9M (plus endorsements) and won't come anywhere near the top 1000.

I had no idea how he stacked up against so many other athletes, but he definitely deserves it. he gets a lot of respect around the league, and I'd still call him an underrated player.

The future defensive player of the year this upcoming season deserves every cent of it.

Agreed, as long as they don't pay him in your Ozzie money. j/k

Does it really matter to the Ravens nation? As long as the players happy and give 110% on every game, it don't matter much except Lombard trophy included.

Like B-more Ravor have said it that the article was just misleading and after 12months, Haloti's earning salary is not even in top 100; regardless, he deserves it....

I hope he invests his money wisely: not rims, girls, and partying.....

Yeah he was that particular year when he got most of his contract money in upfront bonus. However, unlike NBA players the NFL stars don't get too much in endorsement money short of Peyton Manning. Also, their salaries are on a sliding scale so I am sure this year and the next he won't be anywhere near that number.

However, I am glad that Ngata got whatever was due him! He is well deserving of that money imo.
