Offensive Line - Who Stays And Who Goes?

54 posts in this topic

While I see Boren making this team, unless someone else steals his spot, I think some of you are getting carried away with your analysis. You don't draft K.O. or sign Bobby Williams if Boren is this next great prospect in wait. You also don't draft Gino is Boren had starting potential at center.

Boren looked good during OTAs. Let's see how he does during TC and in games before anointing him this great prospect. Right now Boren is just this years message board hero.

Fair point. I think that's still pretty reasonable. As long as we don't keep 6 or 7 like we did last year I'll be content. We actually kept 6 on the roster at one point!!! That's a terrible idea!
I could be wrong, but I don't think there was ever a time we kept only 6 olineman on the roster. Both Ried and Groude where always our top two backups, and even when Grubbs was hurt we had Mark LeVoir who actually started the Titans game for us.

So i'm sure with the combination of Ried, Groude, LeVoir, Mattison, and Boren, we always keep atleast 8 olineman on the roster, keeping 6, when you only have 5 starters would just be crazy.

I don't know what it is about Harewood, but i'm pulling for the guy. I would love to see him stay healthy for a full season and see what his potential actually is.

I remember around this time last year just because camp, the late Orlando Brown was working with both Harewood and Cousin and he seem to speak highly of Harewood. Of course Zeus wanted the big fella to have more of a mean streak, as he described Harewood as laid back.

I thought Harewood had some really strong moments in the preseason, but couldn't stay healthy last season. He's another one of those guys, that I say was really hurt by the lack of offseason activities last season. Harewood needs to improve his tecnique and consistency, if he does that we might have a good LT on our hands.

McKinnie LT
Williams LG
Birk. C
Yanda RG
Oher RT

Back ups
Gradkowski. C/G
Jah Reid. RT
Justin Boren C/G
KO. T/G
I think the only other guy I would add to this back up list is Ramon Harewood, ... he's going nowhere given his size and measurables I think. Also we may carry 10 O-linemen in 53 man roster this time around. Unless of course he goes back on the IR only to be activated should we lose an O-lineman.

Our O-line looked flat against the Falcons.

We're going to have some growing pains with our young linemen. Gradkowski is going to need a year under Birk and need to get stronger too.

I hope McKinnie and Birk infuse some stability for our O-line on week 1.

Did anybody else see that missed block by Gino that resulted in Joe getting wrecked? Gino needs to work on the mental side of the game before he gets our QB's and RB's killed.

I'm hoping that the younger guys can feed off the older guys when they open up the playbook for the unbalanced offensive line. We tend to use this feature a lot during the season to confuse a defense into thinking we are going to do a misdirection or off the tackle run and get the 1st down on a quick slant pass...

When do we ever do a quick slant? I wish we did...
In an ideal world thats what we'd do. But unbalanced line for us, confirms its a run behind the big guy

According to today's LFW:

@Ravens: Cam Cameron said that Michael Oher & Marshal Yanda graded at nearly 100 percent in last week’s game.

Oher played LT, and graded at almost 100. Interesting!

Boren is an underrated player and I think if we gave him a chance he can be that Ben Grubbs replacement on the Left side..

So a few projections have Boren missing the final roster cut in favor of Harewood. Interesting.

That makes no sense.. We have plenty of people who can play RT

Not to mention plenty of people who can finish practice without being carted off for surgery.

If you look at some of these line of scrimmage battles. Ishmail'ey Kitchen vs Justin Boren, you will see 9 times out of 10 the Offensive lineman Justin Boren for the win. Better footwork more experience proper hand technique and these are the things that make the difference .
