When Is Enough, Enough?
What I can't understand is people who come to a game wearing a THIRD team's gear. On Sunday I saw two morons in Steelers jerseys. Why? Are they not aware that the Ravens were not playing the Steelers that day? I told them both they'd better hurry as the Pitt game was a good 3 1/2 hour drive away and kicked off at 4pm.

As a Ravens fan, if I were to go to, say, a Redskins v Giants game, I'd wear neutral colors (and secretly cheer on the Giants, obviously). It baffles me what's going through people's heads when they decide to wear a different team's jersey to M & T, other than the fact that they have obvious self-esteem issues and require attention to validate their sad lives.
When I went to see Baltimore play this year my g/f went with me who is a die-hard 49ers fan so she wore a 49ers t-shirt. She also is far from having self-esteem issues and needing attention to validate her "sad" life.

Perhaps that helps with the baffling issue and gives an example of why someone would do it.

Personally, I could care less about another "fans" experience at our stadium. It's our house, not theirs! It doesn't take a genius to figure out what fans do before a football game.

The eat and the drink. They eat and DRINK A LOT!

If you are going to come in here wearing another teams uniform and expect to be treated "respectfully" and "graciously", then you must be living in "la la land!"

I'm not saying that everyone is a "jerk" but don't expect everyone to be so nice!

If you come in, sit down, and watch the game, most likely no one is going to bother you too much. You will get some "ribbing" but as long as you take it for what it is, you should be ok.

It's the fans that stand up, cheer, and act obnoxious that usually have the problem. Or maybe an away fan who just "had enough" decides to open his mouth to the wrong person. It happened in our section during the Cleveland game. These two idiots were quiet for the most part but near the end they started "mouthing off".

Eventually the Brown's fan turned to the wife or girlfriend of the Raven's fan behind him, motioned a sexually explicit gesture towards the Raven's fan wife and in turn, he got kicked in his chest by the husband and or boyfriend.

You know who got kicked out? The Browns fans!

The best part about it, as the Browns fans were being escorted from the seats one of them asks a cop "is it such a crime being a Browns fan in Baltimore?" The cop had one simple reply.

"Yes"!

I also saw another Browns fan throw his whole beer in a Ravens fan face soon after that. He and his friends were escorted out "very quickly"!

I guess I feel this way because I would never consider going to an away game to watch the Ravens play. I don't like when "away" fans are in my stadium so I return the favor and stay away from theirs!

Stay away! We really don't want you here! Seriously, I'm not being funny about this. We really don't want you in our stadium.

So being that I live closer to Baltimore and usually this is my only chance during the season to see the team I support I am supposed to stay away because I'm going to YOUR house? That makes a LOT of sense. I'll be there next year too and I tell you what; you can even know what section I'm sitting in so you can so graciously welcome me. <_<

To address one of your other points however I will agree it's usually those that mouth off that start the mess to begin with. I can only think of one time a Ravens fan said something really idiotic to me and that was this year when one told me to throw myself over the seats and kill myself; to which I replied no thanks and continued watching the game.

It's a tough week to be a Browns Fan on here, Brownsfan. The bottom line is that its only a game. Some people take this stuff way to seriously. Like the comment about you killing yourself, or don't come to "our house" is just useless.

Just wanted to let you know that you are a better poster than most Ravens fans on here, and albeit you being a Brownsfan, it's nice to have you on here.

It's always tough what are you talking about? LOL. I also do agree that while I absolutely love and support my team 24/7/365 in the end it is simply a game. It's really more comical than anything to me but I love to hear people's opinions on the topics at hand.

Hell I'm just happy to be able to watch a 1pm game again. I don't mind some variety but sheesh we haven't had a 1pm game in forever!

Hey, its just my opinion. Obviously you have every single right to come to the game. I'm just telling you how I personally feel about away team fans who decide to make "noise". Like I said, come, sit, and watch the game. If you start "mouthing off" or waving your stupid "yellow towel", then don't be surprised if you are eventually being escorted out of the building. Usually along with the Ravens fan who decided to go the "extra mile".

I will say this about M&T security this year. They have been doing a pretty decent job of addressing an issue before it spills over into something a whole lot worse. Whether it's moving fans out of a section or out of the building.

I can easily say that I don't go out of my way to cause a problem with an away fan. If I get "mouthy" with one it's because they decided to call attention to themselves. I've never punched, pushed, or physically abused anyone at a football game. I'll admit to a couple of shouting matches but thats about it. The main thing you get from me is a loud "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"! Big deal, right?

There was one particular incident that I did feel bad about. I had nothing to do with it but the abuse that this woman and her daughter received was totally uncalled for. They were Steeler fans and it was during the 2006 game where we just dominated them. They had nothing to cheer for and were just sitting there and this moron (Ravens fan) and his wife decided to just start laying into these two. When I saw "tears" coming from the daughter we all decided that it was enough. We waved security up to our section and had the problem taken care of.

We're not all "a-holes" but that doesn't mean I welcome "away" team fans with "open arms". I would rather that they just not come. But I know that is just not going to happen. Luckily we don't tend to lose a lot of home games. So usually situations aren't as ugly as they could be.

You sound like you just come to "watch" the game. So you probably don't have too many problems. But trust me, for every "one" of you there are about "ten" that don't follow that same philosophy!

I hear ya and you're right. I've even been fortunate enough to go see the Browns play at M&T and be seated near other Browns fans and thought to myself that they were just a bunch of drunk morons.

The only thing I had a problem with at the last game was a fight that broke out in the section I was in. It was between a Browns fan and a Ravens fan but there were at least 10 Ravens fans who were NOT with the Browns fan that told the cop that the Ravens fan started it all and yet it was the Browns fan that got thrown out. To me, that's automatically looking at it as "The away team's fan always starts %^@!" and not listening to those clearly telling you it wasn't him.

I still enjoy going no matter what and as I've said many times I've met some really cool Ravens fans that sat around me.

What's with fights at games anyways. Some guy gets a ticket to watch the Ravens, but instead gets belligerently drunk, gets in a fight, and gets thrown out. Some people just can't control their ego and aggression. I've seen a guy where you can see the anger in his eyes growing, and it was only a matter of seconds until he threw his beer bottle at the guy.

If I'm at a game, I'm watching the game. I couldn't care less what some person next to me is wearing or saying.

I have noticed that a lot this year. Regardless of the situation, the away team fans seem to be automatically "ejected" or "moved" after the incident occurs.

There seemed to be a change in policy when it comes to "unruly" conduct with visiting fans and Ravens fans as well.

Raider fans have to be about the most vicious fans known to man; That is insane they would complain about that.

I went to the Ravens @ San Diego game out here and I had my life threatened by a group of guys sitting next to me.

Not a fun experience but...just ride out the storm.

Personally, I would love to see my stadium filled with nothing by Ravens fans, but I have no problem with visiting fans. I don't thing a visiting fans should have to just sit still and be quiet. You have a right to cheer, but you might want to be a bit more reserved since you are not in your own house. I just don't like the obnoxious visiting fan who feels they have to be loud to prove themselves, as if to say "I'm not afraid of you Raven's fans". Just understand that if the home team is losing for example and a visiting fan get's too enthusiastic, it is like rubbing salt into the wound. Respect how we feel and we will respect how you feel. Thinking of your real house, people behave differently when in their own home than when they visit someone in their home. Same principle basically.

Alcohol my friend! It's the stadiums worst enemy and best friend all at the same time! The revenue from a $8 beer is incredible, but the consequences of many $8 beers consumed (not to mention the beers consumed before the game) is their worst enemy!

not to mention that we don't get to work off our feelings physically like the players. I agree with PuRock, I want to sit and watch the game, but it is emotional and emotion + beer often leads to problems.

My personal experience was my only game I have ever been to and it was at M&T against the Bengals during the 06' season when TJ threw a big fit for the call at the end of the game and threw his helmet and all that. I can tell you one thing, the Bengal fans were straight ignorant and the beer and everything else that was thrown at these fans was well deserved. When you got love for a team your not gonna just listen to the visiting teams fans talking trash without saying something back and then sometimes it leads to a more physical altercation but it just comes with the territory IMO, no big deal.

I agree that I would love the stadium to be filled with nothing but Ravens fans. Heck, I'd like ALL stadiums to be filled with nothing but Ravens fans! But that isn't going to happen. I don't see what the big deal is about being a good host. Fans from other teams are our guests and have every right to cheer for their team. However, NO FAN from EITHER team has a right to be obnoxious.

Good-natured ribbing between fans is fun. I've seen a lot of that at games. I've also seen the jerks - generally from further away, luckily.

We moved our seats to the rail in 113-114 this year because my dad had knee surgery, and it is amazing what the SAFE and the police do. They are usually standing behind us, and they call out jersey names, colors and stuff of people to watch. They are quick to talk to/eject trouble makers be they Ravens fans or opposing fans. It is amazing what you can see in the stands from the rail too, the stealth heckling that goes on too.
Yeah I am serious. Talking trash is part of Football if you ask me, but talking trash and being a jerk are different. All I'm saying is if you chose to go to a away game you should be treated like a football fan. Who would go to a away game and expect to be treated like a home team fan? @#%&#^! You should at least be treated with the respect that you would give to anyone in general. I think you are missing the point!
I agree. We went to a jaguars game a couple of years ago and the fans were very friendly. They actually thanked us for coming. Ravens lost, but the Jaguar fans were great. We were very comfotable there and I think we should make visiting team fans feel comfortable at our house. What's the point of antagonizing visiting fans? They love and support their team as much as we do. I think that true football fans should respect the fact the visiting fans support their team as much as we do. However, I do not think that we should take abuse from unruly visiting fans. It is our house.

A Giants fan on the radio (Sirius 124) on Monday was talking about how great he was treated at the Game Sunday. I wasn't totally surprised, but it was still nice to hear. Although, I think there's a bit of respect between the two organizations due to their history and that may have had a little to do with it. I have seen wearers of Purple, Orange and Brown jerseys take some verbal abuse. Mostly just in good fun though.

I don't mean screaming curses at someone. I mean like you do with your friends. i.e, Following a TD: "Yeah. What's up now?" Usually done with a smile. Stuff like that. Trust me, for every fan that has a bad experience there are hundreds that have a good time with no BS.

I've never been to a game I feel out of place... I only live in Delaware for 2 months of the year...the rest I live in Missouri... So I wouldnt know.

Though I have been to a few Mizzou games and one of them being Kansas at Mizzou..

Boy...Did that get ugly.

One of my goals in life is to go to quite a few Raven's games though, so...eventually...I hope.

Nothing beats going to an NFL game. I'd like to go to every stadium at least once if I could (Kansas City being the first).

I live down here in Tampa now and went to their home opener last year vs. the Saints and it was nothing like M&T. Our stadium and fans are dominant by far and it was a very peaceful atmosphere. You heard the occasional trash talk and screams, "N.O. SUCKS!" on the walk out of the stadium but all in all not hostile or hype at all, it was pretty dissappointing. What should I expect though I'm a Ravens fan and after going to the 06' season Bengals game the bar was set very high.

I want to go to Lambeau and Soldier Field some day. I have been to the Vet, Linc, Fed-ex, RFK and Joe Robbie, M&T is the best with close second being the old RFK. Edit to add 3 Rivers--love the boats.

Lambeau and Soldier fields are definitely at the top of the list. I think K.C. is replacing the stadium though. Plus, they're consistently ranked #1 in tailgating. :D

I've been to Heinz Field, Giants Stadium also Joe Robbie. They don't call it that anymore though I don't think.
I had also been to the Orange Bowl. I was with about 4,000 Marines and still wasn't sure I was safe.

Quest looks pretty cool too.

Baseball wise: Shea once and Yankee Stadium about 1,000 times. Camden Yards is at the very top of my list there. Then Wrigley.

Yea, thats what I don't get about places like this. I know for a fact that no fan of another team is gonna run into our stadium and take over like that. There are a lot of New York fans down here for some reason. I don't know if it's because of all the snow birds or because of the Yankees holding spring training down here with Legends Field or what but I hate it.

As far as this whole topic goes, this stuff is just part of the game. People are competitive when it comes to their team and trash talk will happen. People will get drunk and act crazy and some will take it too far, the ones that do get penalized for it and everyone else just moves on. I feel that when opposing fans come into another teams stadium they know the boundaries and should understand that when crossed somebody out there isn't going to take it and bad things happen. It is what it is!
