When Is Enough, Enough?

92 posts in this topic

On my way home today I was listening to my SIRIUS Ch124 (The NFL Ch.) and there was a fan that called in to comment on a very bad experience at M&T Bank Stadium. He talk about how the fan's cursed him along with his wife as they wore their Raider gear and how bad of an experience it was for them. I personally have encountered visiting fan and yeah we talk a little thrash and that is it. Win, Lose or Draw at the end of the day it is only a football game. Yeah I want my team to win but i do not want personally insult or hurt a visiting fan. Since 2006 Tampa Fla. game Bucs vs Ravens my friends and I travel to an away game every year and we have not had ANY PROBLEMS SO FAR. we seem to met some pretty nice fan's that have even offered to take picture for us and give back the camera. This year we traveled to Miami people down there were talking smack every where, even in Denny's across from the Stadium but it was just talk. How much is to much? Should visiting fan have a good time at M&T except for the fact that they are mad about their team getting a beat down?

Are you serious?! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WHEN YOU GO TO ANOTHER TEAMS HOME STADIUM? i mean I WOULD NEVER go to any stadium and expect to get treated like home team fans!!!Honestly I was sitting next to decent raiders fans.. & of course I was talking some trash but we were getting along fine..

Maybe they were just pissed that they looked like retards dressed in their oakland clothes when they lost as badly as they did!!!

well, we don't really know what happened from the other end anyways. but that's a whole different story...
well the Ravens do say "dont be a jerk" before a game, so at least we arent as bad as pittsburgh, if you look at it that way.

Every group has that 10%. That goes for too rude as well as the too sensitive. It's funny that you forgot to mention the irony of a RAIDERS fan being mistreated in another team's stadium.

I wonder if said fan was the one in the Alzado jersey throwing beer on people and telling Ravens fans to sit down? Luckily he and his 2 cohorts in the Sapp and Gannon jersey we escorted out.

I went to the Bills and Ravens game a couple years ago and we had fans like that next to us. Cheering is fine, but some people go too far, especially when they are grossly outnumbered, and they deserve what they get. On the other hand, I dont know that some of the people deserve to be berated just bc theyre an opposing teams fan, unless theyre squealer fans ;)

That fan should go to Buffalo, I was at a Bills game, just taking in the experience, and saw a Jets fan get the living kicked out of him and had a can of coke dumped all over his wife.
It's an advantage to a team when the crowd gets into the game so I would rather have more of my teams fans anyways.
I agree, I would rather have a hostile crowd apposed to a wine and cheese place like Carolina or a half empty building in Atlanta. Our crowd takes the form of our defense and vice-versa, intense, loud and ready to kick some ******.

It only takes one drunk raven fan to make a bad experience for an opposing fan.....70000 good stories of the day...and 2 or 3 bad ones is all it takes for those 2 fans to make it seem like a horrible experience. Meanwhile the raiders fans in lot h were having a good time, taking pictures with other ravens fans...good time had by all. All depends where you sit, not what city you are in.

Ive gone to away games since 2002 and never had a bad experience til we went to detriot, the fiasco game where the ravens melted down and had a slew of penalties and "malice in their hearts"...anyway not much for us ravens to even cheer about, we are just sitting watching the game and this drunk in front of us keeps geting on our faces trying to start something, we never talked back or said anything to him and all the fans around us were like hey you want to move over here and get away from the that a-hole. So we saw the bad fan and good fans all on one section.

There is something called sportsmanship. I would not expect someone to wipe off my seat for me or offer to buy me a beer if I went to another stadium, but I would not expect to be thought of as a **** forwearing my team's colors. The Ravens make seats available to the other teams. I'm sure they don't do it to see fights in the stand or see people act like jerks. Maybe this is the only chance for some people who have moved away from home to see their favorite team and they would just like to watch a fb game. If they get out of hand, have them tossed. Otherwise, let's be good sports.

The post above pretty much sums it up. Personally I've been to M&T four times now to see Cleveland play and honestly it's been a fairly good experience every time. I've encountered one drunk every time but I don't pay it no mind really and it pretty much ends before anything else can even be said.

Overall I've enjoyed the games (with the exceptions of the results of course) very much and even met some cool fans too that were sitting around me.

Haha i wonder if that guy who called in on that sirius channel was the guy i was yelling at. there was a guy and his wife two rows behind me, and he was being obnoxious. When they got that touchdown, he started running his mouth and mocking our defense chants. A couple people around him said stuff and then i got up and basically told him to check the score and sit down. Then, when we sacked Russell again I looked right at him and said "Jamarcus who?". I am not really a trash talker, but mock my team and my fellow fans in my section, it's on.

I sit in 552, and yesterday, about 3 rows in front of me (so row 8 or so) was a drunk little Raven chick in a pink Reed jersey. She was talking crap to a couple of guys wearing their JaMarcus Russell jerseys. At first I laughed, but she was just drunk and foul, no interest in, or knowledge or football, just one beligerent F - bomb after another.

The guys tried to engage her in some football talk, but she was havign no part of it. Furthermore, when the drunks a few rows back that couldn't hear what was being said, only saw a little unassuming chick ravens fan mixing it up with 2 Raiders fans, they started egging her on, which encouraged her out of control behavior even further.

Now I sit there every game, none of the parties involved own the seats that they were in. I am known in my section for being a jerk. In fact I get comments and looks every time Bruce says it, since a Titans game in 03 I think. In fact, most of the time after they say don't be a jerk, I say " I am a jerk"

With that said, we aren't talking about Titans fans, or Patriots, or now Giants or whoever the team of the minute might be. I am always merciless with them (although never profane), as the fairweather fans coem out of the woodwork when their team is playing well. (Ravens fans included)

My point is simply that the Raiders are an embarrassment of a franchise right now, they have been for almot a decade. They are not a rival of ours, in fact, every "big game" I ever recall the Ravens playing against the Raiders, Baltimore won. The fact that these guys would pay money for tickets and in a lot of cases travel and accomodations too, to support that team on the road in a game where they were likely to get beaten, is what being a real fan is all about. As long as they are being respectful, I applaud them , they are the true die hards.

I have a lot more respect for the Raiders fans that continue to come out in lean times than many of my PSL holding "seat neighbors" who are rabid fans when the team is playing well, but are nowhere to be seen when the chips ae down. Or those who choose to boo the home team, or roll out at halftime of a loss.

But that's just me.

I hear these concerns a lot actually.
My parents will no longer go with me to games because people are not nice to opposing teams fans.

To me, and maybe I'm a 'die-hard', I like the fact that if you come into our house wearing your clothes, chanting your team's name, and jeering when your team scores (uh-hum Browns, Steelers =worse idiotic fans that deserve what they get when they get mouthy)...I am going to give you ****.
If you have a smile on your face and are cool about it, I will joke around with you too.

Tell me this, what treatment would I receive dressing in all my game clothes and going to Pittsburgh to watch a game? As opposed, what treatment would I get wearing...umm...regular clothes?

Don't wanna be picked on...don't wear a visiting teams colors in our stadium. Like, DUH????

Very true, you have to be a diehard to go to an away teams stadium AND pay to see the raiders these days, hopefully the people who had bad experiences were the ones being jerks

Don't you just love how PSL owner's all of a sudden stop selling their tickets once we have a playoff game or when we are playing the Steeler's.
And yeah, I love the "treat me fairly when I come into your stadium wearing my colors". You will respect our house, or you will be berated.

My buddy always has a good time watching his Steeler's with me every year in Baltimore. Of course he is dressed in Carhartt for the game. :P

Like who is going to mess with you, besides me  , unless they are plum stupid, esp when you are with your ex-room mate.

I sit on the rail, and this guy who was slamming back some serious beer actually grabbed the arm of a Raiders female fan and was in her face, sloshing beer all over the place, she slapped his face and the cop went and talked to him.

There are idiots everywhere and the more beer consumed the more retarded some people act. Now I go to watch the game, if I drank even 1 beer I would fall asleep in between trips to the bathroom, so it is not worth it to me.

Though my new favorite vendor is the Margarita man B) May he always pay a visit to my section. :o

Margarita's?????? :o At a football game????

Actually, that sounds pretty cool. Is it me or do they serve better beer at hockey arena's?

I wore a Rod Woodson jersey (A black and Gold one so don't bother asking) to Giants stadium once. I went with my Dad (Giants fan) and the Giants fans were pretty cool with me. Every time the Giants scored a TD (3x) I heard "Hey Woodson." But when I turned around they were laughing and smiling. No throwing things and getting nasty. Only ONE GUY was a complete **** when I went to the bathroom. He was walking behind me and just started cursing at me. He wanted to fight, but when presented with the opportunity, he changed his mind. The whole episode was completely unnecessary.

I was concerned for a Ravens fan once out in Pittsburgh. He wore a purple firemans helmet. I don't think he said a word to anyone, but when the game was over he was completely surrounded by Steelers fans singing one of the victory songs basically at him (while walking out). They seemed to be working themselves up into a frenzy and I remember feeling "uncomfortable" for him. He was smart though, he just kept on smiling and thankfully nobody did anything stupid.

In 2000 my husband wore a purple Woodson into 3 Rivers, a few people good natured ribbed him but that was it. One lady told him how he was her favorite player ever.

Did anyone cry to him? That one hurt....a lot.

I went back and forth with Raven's fan in a .....Deion Sanders jersey once. He was obnoxious and corney. I think most of you would have asked that he shut his mouth too.

Lemme ask: What did you guys think of having Deion on the Ravens? I've ALWAYS hated him and I actually felt bad for Ravens fans when he signed on. If the Steelers had done that, I honestly would not have watched until he left.
we have alot of fairweather fans in bmore
Yes, but when i come to think about it...
Maybe a better way to describe it is we have a lot of drinking amongst fans during games. And with that, emotions are worn on the sleeve. lol
But please, no booing. That is the uttermost digraceful thing a fan can do to their team.
