I dont think the ravens would be in a much better situation if they let rice go at all and just decided to retained grubbs. Grubbs was a good guard but i think some ravens fans are really overrating him .

Another reason we didn't resign Grubbs was because we just signed Yanda the year before to a big contract. We cant have 2 of the highest paid players at their position, at the same position.
We made it to the AFCCG with Flacco making 6 mil and Rice making 500,000. Both of them want to be paid amongst the best in the league. If that's going to happen, we are going to loose some players. It's how the business works.

I just feel like we're struggling to find a new LG, whereas it may be easier to maintain a dominant line and plug in a running back behind it. It's not easy, but it might be a safer alternative.

The money is averaged over the years when explained but it isn't structured like that...
We paid him like 4 million last year. You don't just average all the players salaries over a single season. We only had about 2 million in cap space but signed these small-time guys like Bobbie Williams to 2 year 2.5 million deals. You give them like 500,000 this year and 2 million next year. Plus you have his signing bonus etc.

The Bronces did it for awhile. The Texans do it as well and the Ravens did it at times. Ray Rice is a great reciever and an above average runner. I just think losing Grubbs hurts us against teams with great up the middle pass rush. Its one thing to lose him and have something solid around the young player you are replacing him with(i.e. our defensive front seven with Upshaw)

I just think that when Flacco is getting knocked around then you will see how not replacable all pro players are.

I always felt dirty when I turned off 'Salary Cap' during franchise. I felt better after I had assembled my All-Star Ravens team and whipped up on the Patsies though!
