Harbs said that he hasn't heard from Ed as to why he never showed.
He said that after the practice. We don't know if he or anyone in the organization has gotten in contact with Ed since then.

Man, too bad we can't go to our bosses and say that we won't show up for work even though it is mandatory and not get fired for it.

Come on Ed, if you want more money, prove it by showing up during the off-season and working hard and showing that you deserve a new contract.

Honestly, stop putting fuel on the fire. Why are you guys biting on media's bait? Stop being a fool pls... by now you all should know Reed will be more than ready by game time.

Its Cams fault.
Lol, that's the best comment in this thread. Nicely played.

Perhaps Reed is out because he doesn't want to pick off Joe Flacco or wants to give Chris Thompson some more reps. Maybe Harbaugh's going to play some safety here. He used to be a DB, after all.

As for Harbaugh not knowing about Reed, I don't believe a word out of his mouth any more to be honest. I don't even read what he has to say, not because I dislike him but he never gives anything to anyone except in some very rare situations (i.e. the Belichick thing). After that 98 Rock event, I don't expect him to let his guard down much anymore at all, honestly. I'm sure he's told what to say and what to avoid, and so the easier comment is to say he hasn't heard what's going on with Ed Reed.

Ed the Ravens fans love you man! Just show up and give us comfort. I know you may have personal things that keep you occupied but didn't you just have like 4 months to figure that stuff out? Come on down to the camp - the MANDATORY one!

I feel the same way. Working on "cohesiveness" and "setting an example" at this point in the off-season aren't nearly as important as they are in late July when training camp starts.
What?! First off, why did you put cohesiveness and setting an example in quotes as if those terms don't exist? Secondly, so setting an example stops after a season is over? How does that even work? If anything, it becomes more important in between seasons, because that's the time a lot of young guys get themselves into trouble and lose focus. They're professional athletes, everything is important all year round, not just during the season. It's like saying, '"Being in shape" and "not getting in trouble" are only important when camp starts,'.

If he has stuff going on in his personal life that keeps him away from mini-camp who are we to say it's more important that he show up to appease the fans. IMO his non-appearance has no bearing whatsoever on the success of the upcoming season. He has given everything he has for 10 seasons for the the Ravens and for the fans. I am not going to ask him to come to an off-season mini-camp to ease my mind.

Edit:

According to an article on ESPN -- Ray states Reed won't be in camp till July for family reasoning.
'ts not at all what he said man. Ray said that Ed was taking care of family business (a baby boy) and he will be there July 25th to help the defense even more. He also said that Ed will be back at camp.

Tbh, I'm not worried about this from what Ray Lewis says.

This comment from Downing's article earlier today is the most interesting thing I've read today on this subject:

“I have not communicated with Ed, so I’m not sure what the situation is on that,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said after practice.

Missing all three days of minicamp could reportedly lead to Reed getting docked up to $63,000 (plus another $9,000 for not taking a physical before camp) under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“The CBA applies and I haven’t talked to him,” Harbaugh said.

Ed, I think you just got your "come to Jesus" meeting notification from Harbs via the media!

we should´t read too much into this. like ray said. he has other things in mind right now.

it would be nice to sign him to a longterm deal that all his acting every year can finally stop...
Okay point noted... I understand he has given us 10 magnificent seasons, and that precisely is the reason we feel the way we do and want him here. Now, if his personal reasons were so pressing that he misses this camp, why not call the HC and let him know of his intentions. Now we do know that he can speak on the phone as attested to by Ray Lewis in his presser right? Surely you are not implying he is bigger than the organization are you?? So I suggest you look at the Ed Reed situation more holistically than you do

Anyway, that part i dont care about, but if you have family reasons, tell your damn coach! dont make it look like your beginning a holdout, now obviously if something serious happened the night before this point is moot because then you just might not think.

But if he hadnt planned on showing for a day or two or more, let your bloody coach know. I dont care he didnt show, its how he went about it.

i dunno. i guess he needs more time to get his mind right. he needs a motivation kick in the butt. firing cam would do it. he's smart absolutely, this no-show might be his subtle way of protesting the state of the team. after all, he wants a super bowl right? if he's not 100% committed to the team, that missing percent has to be due to cam. otherwise, he might be thinking why he should risk another year of serious injury for offensive disappointment... ultimately, i believe he will be back. he'll ask himself, "who is ed reed" and he'll be reminded that he's a legend, and legends play for the love of the game.

Honestly this is the best time for Ed to do the whole leverage thing because of the loss of Suggs.. the Ravens can't afford to lose what makes our secondary truly strong with our best pass rusher down so his leverage is greater. At the same time this is the worst time for Ed to do this because the team needs him and really doesn't need this on top of all the other stuff.. other contract situations.. trying to fit in new players.. etc. etc.

I get why he feels this would be a good time to do it but at the same time the secondary is probably going to have to be the strongest part of our defense so the more time they work together.. the better and I think Reed should know that. But maybe he really has a family situation... we shall see.

Despite the slight changes to the defense, Ed doesn't need to be there to pick up any nuances, he can easily do that in camp.

Now that said, this situation really bothers me and its not because he isn't there, it's because he is portraying himself with a "me first" personality and because he didn't have the decency to call his Head Coach and say "Look, I've got some family things to attend to right now." Harbs has always preached the team, the team, the team. Just because he is Ed doesn't mean he gets a pass, and if you do give him a pass, it can cause the other 80+ guys out there practicing to start having doubts of their own creep into their heads. Ed has always been my favorite player, but no one is above the team and I hope Harbs and the FO do fine him. Its even worse if he thinks this is giving him leverage for a new deal when everyone from Bisciotti down has said that Rice and Flacco are the priorities, then they can look at Ed.

1st...i agree that Ed should have called Harbaugh to inform him of his non-attendance. no question!

2nd...NONE OF US...really know what has happened with the relationship between the Ravens FO and Ed Reed behind the scenes for him (Ed) not to call the coach and to call Ray Lewis instead.

3rd...judge nothing before its time! until this is finalized between the Ravens FO and Ed Reed....Shhhhhh!!!

I think Ed is spoiled by the organization and the fans cuz we love him just as much as we love Ray, but it's getting to point "come on, man." He needs to man up and act like a professional player.

Rules are rules so he'll get fined for his absenses.......

Do you really think they ever reveal the truth behind it?

What we know is only the fraction of the truth; however, what we really know is he is not showing up for the mandatory. He will have to face numerous questioning from the media when he comes back to the castle....I hope he isn't snapped in front of the media......

Ray and Ed are like BFF so nothing suprise there for Ray as the first person to know everything about Ed....

It cant hurt for him to inform the team of his absence, but in reality I just dont care. To me it's just like the whole drama around how Suggs got hurt -- it makes no difference to me. I dont think Ed Reed is above any other player on the team, but I also dont think an offseason mini-camp is all that important, especially for a 10 year vet like Ed who is always putting himself on the line for the team.
