Merged: Ed Reed Skips Mini-Camp But Reports for TC

285 posts in this topic

I guess this is Ed's way of making a statement. Heck even Suggs is at the Castle. Man this is getting old w/ Ed!! If he skips all 3 days, it'll cost him $63k. Irony: is you want more money but willing to lose $63k. Go figure??

SMH... Thats crazy Uncle Eddie for ya! I'm not to worried about it, he could walk on the field Mon Sept 10th at 7:01pm and we would be fine.

I am however interested in hearing other's "the sky is falling" rants....

Is the fine mandatory or discretionary by team? If so I doubt the Ravens come after him for the full amount if at all.

Ugh, things that make you facepalm.

Maybe his flight just got delayed in the rain, right? Right? :bitenails:

C'mon, Ed, you have a job, you have a multi-million contract, show up for the mandatory minicamps...

I believe it's the teams choice. If so, you're right, it's hard to see them fining him.

I would assum its discretionary, similar to training camp.

From today's LFW article.

"The new CBA indicates a player who skips one day of mandatory camp can be fined up to $10,000, two days skipped adds another $20,000 (total $30,000), and skipping for a third day can add another $30,000."

Makes me think it's discretionary by the team.

As per the LFW article:

"The new CBA indicates a player who skips one day of mandatory camp can be fined up to $10,000, two days skipped adds another $20,000 (total $30,000), and skipping for a third day can add another $30,000.
Thus, the total possible fine for skipping all of camp is $60,000. A player can also be subject to a partial forfeiture of bonuses or a waiver of remaining contract guarantees."

Just my two cents...someone needs to have a "come-to-Jesus" meeting with Ed because all his drama is getting to be a little much and it takes away from the guys that are out there working their butts off everyday. I'd rather read about what our players are doing to better their individual play and the team for the upcoming season than reading "ed watch" reports. It just doesn't bode well for the Ravens "team" image, nor Ed's future image either.

I don't pretend to understand the guy anymore.
Unless you know him personally, you probably shouldn't.

Agreed. These minicamps are about the team learning cohesiveness, learning to play together. Reed may come to camp in shape, but it's not all about him.

No, the sky's NOT falling, but Ed's getting a hefty salary; he should honor his commitments. Ed needs to be about the team, and not about Ed.

Yes you're right it's at the team's discretion under the new CBA. We don't know though there could already have been some communication or agreement in place he would miss today. Let's keep our fingers crossed things come together.

I see what Ed is doing in this way...He has always used the media (rightly or wrongly) as an outlet to handle his contract negotiations and it has worked for him in the past, so he has been positively conditioned, or rewarded in that way, and will therefore do it again. The CC Times already has done a story on Reed being a no show at camp today. I don't think he realizes the contradictions that he is putting out there and the effects that it has on his image and how it reflects on the team. Frankly, I love Ed Reed and hope he will play for as long as he can and will, but this "ride on the Ed Reed rollercoaster" is wearing a little thin! For me, I think you gain more respect by just handling your business in private.

Well Ed Reed isn't playing this year, so this is a non issue haha.

But if he is playing this year, he's setting a bad example for the younger teammates.

im more concerned with why mckinnie isnt there, wasnt this an unwritten agreement when we gave him his roster bonus he had to attend everything? why go to otas with rookies, then not turn in for the big show?

Yeah, Birk and McPhee didn't participate either - but both of them are nursing minor injuries. Of course, IF McKinnie's "held out for conditioning reasons" means "he's too out of shape to participate," then that would be troubling.

Otherwise, 100%, outside of Ed.

Not really worried about Ed. It would be nice to have him out there, but I just don't see it as a big deal.

Lol @ you all for thinking Ed was going show for camp. Its Ed Reed people, he doesn't have to show up and the people over at the castle understands this so why can't the fans? ????

Oh no. Maybe he really is retiring.

Or maybe he is leveraging for a new contract. Regardless, I expect Reed back and ready to play. I just hope he does get an extension. I would like one less thing to worry about next year.

I feel the same way. Working on "cohesiveness" and "setting an example" at this point in the off-season aren't nearly as important as they are in late July when training camp starts.

It's not any one specific thing that Ed does that starts grinding on my nerves. It's the sum total of all this crap that is really beginning to annoy me. No call? No reason? C'mon, Ed.

You are the man. Remember that and act accordingly you crazy bastage.
