Who Are The Six Players Bisciotti Is Deathly Afraid Of Not Making The Roster?

42 posts in this topic

"We went down the roster and barring injuries, there are six guys that I’m scared to death are not going to make the 53-man [roster],” Bisciotti told The Sun. “When we looked at the guys, there are 74 out of 90 guys that we think have a chance to make the team.”

So who it be?

ha, my best guess of players would be:

I would say our depth at WR would probably make good options as Tommy Streeter, David Reed, Deonte Thompson
On the OL with Bobbie Williams signing Justin Boren, Ramon Harewood may be possibilities (hopefully not Boren)
We always have too many good LBs so Albert McClellan, Josh Bynes, Michael McAdoo
Lastly we seem to have a ton of good CBs on the roster which may make it difficult for Corey Graham, Danny Gorrer and Chykie Brown to all make the roster

I may be leaving off a bunch of others and most of these guys should make the team

I'm pretty certain that nobody is scared that one of those 6 you named could get cut.

The lowest form? It's funny you say that, because literary greats like Shakespeare, Twain, and Dickens were fluent in sarcasm, and are very well known for it. But to each his own.

As for the actual topic at hand, I'd think that the six players in question are: Bryan Hall, Justin Boren, Ishmaa'ily Kitchen, David Reed, Danny Gorrer, and Damien Berry.

David Reed, Kitchen, Justin Boren, Danny Gorrer, Chykie Brown, and Emmanual Cook. I think all but Brown, Reed, and Cook are essential looks for the roster - Boren may be PS.

Are we certain that he's talking about six specific players or just that however the roster is made, six guys will be the odd ones out?

Well, if I had to guess I would have to look at the areas we are deep or areas with a lot of young talent. With that said, I would narrow it first down to position:

WR, RB, K, and maybe DB or DL. With that said, here are my picks/guesses:

1. WR/KR David Reed
2. WR Deonte Thompson
3. RB Damien Berry
4. RB/KR Bobby Rainey
5. K Justin Tucker
6. DB Considine

It's really hard to guess the last one. The rest I feel pretty comfortable with as guesses.

I think that Considine will make it purely based on the fact that I don't think we will go into the season with only a rookie (C. Thompson) to back up both safety spots.

We are not going to carry two kickers so unless Tucker beats out Cundiff, I agree he will be gone.

I agree that D. Berry, D. Reed, B. Rainey, and D. Thompson will all get cut with the hopes of signing maybe 2 of them to the PS.

There will be a logjam at DL and I think that between D. Tyson, M. Kemoeatu, R. McBean, and I. Kitchen, only 2 of them make it (1 DE and 1 NT).

LB's J. Bynes, Chavis Williams, N. Carr, and C. Glenn will all get cut and some will make it to the PS.

Assuming that QB J. Brantley makes it to the PS, I don't think we keep C. Painter. Especially when there are other very good players on the bubble.

Two good players that are on the bubble are J. Borren and C. Brown. I actually think that both of them make it (last 2 roster spots), but someone is going to get cut once Suggs comes off of PUP and they will back on the bubble again.

My depth chart works out to 25 players on Offense, 25 on Defense, and 3 ST.

Considine could make the team, you're right. I'm torn on him. My only problem with him is that he isn't that good. I understand the idea of having a veteran back-up, but I do think Chykie Brown can play safety. That's just hyperbole and has no weight to it at all other than my own personal opinion.

As for David Reed, I think there's something some of us are forgetting. Suggs will definitely begin the year on PUP. Unless there is some limit of players allowed to be on PUP, then I can also see Reed on PUP with Suggs to allow the team to assess KR/PR options. If the KR options we have are better than Reed was, we simply let him ride the PUP until the maximum weeks are used and then IR or cut him. That means Suggs and Reed won't count against the roster until later in the year. Also, McBean won't count against the roster until week 3 or 4 due to his suspensions, so that will allow a DT or another player to make the roster much like David Reed last year when he was suspended. That's three players off the top of my head who possibly won't count against the 53.

As for the LBs, I think Carr or Bynes have a legitimate chance to make this team more than any of the four you mentioned. Due to our depleted OLBs with only Kruger, Kindle, Upshaw and McClellan, I think we could possibly see McClain used as an OLB if needed unless we pick up a URFA off waivers or something. That would leave us a little thin inside, and so I could see us carry Bynes or Carr and have the other go to PS.

I agree that Painter gets cut and Brantley goes to PS.

As for Boren & Brown, I already said I think Brown could get converted to safety. Boren is a good player who I think plays a Gurode role this year despite the addition of Williams.

I thought the same thing when I read the article. There are always obvious cuts, and then there are cuts that must be made to get down to the final roster. I think when you look at what positions are loaded with depth then you get a better picture of who is on the bubble. The reality is good players are going to get cut, and some of those players could even start or star on other teams.

So let's examine this further. The defensive backs and wide receivers groups seem very deep right now. The competition for the number 3 spot on both sides figures to be tough as only the ones and twos are a lock. The team is only going to keep 6-7 players for each of those two position groups.

With the receivers the keepers would/should be Boldin, Smith, Jones, Williams, and Doss are pretty much under contract or going to play. David Reed is most likely headed to the Pup list and wont factor in for awhile. That leaves Streeter, Thompson, and a host of other undrafted rookie FA's on the bubble.

On the Db's side (specifically corners) you have Webb, Smith, Williams, basically locked. Gorrer, Brown, Graham, and maybe Jackson have a job that is theirs to lose, but at least one of them is on the bubble.

Lastly, we seem to have a lot of tackles or guys that can play tackle. With those three position groups you can never have enough guys. I'd say those six guys that we want and wont be able to keep are; Streeter, Brown, Berry, Harewood, Boren, and Cook

If Gorrer is healthy and isn't on the 53-man(or whatever it ends up being this year) roster going into Week 1.... Harbaugh should be fired.

Because it's inconceivable that another DB could outperform him in training camp and/or pre-season. Gorrer played well in limited action last year, but that doesn't mean he'd look nearly as good if he played more snaps.

All our CBs are going to look good with the coaching we have. Just like last year. For his sake I hope Gorrer gets a big role this year. Even though he was a practice squadder who got limited reps, I don't remember seeing a play all year where I was upset at him. If he doesn't make the roster it's because Chykie Brown overtook him in the depth chart and Graham/Ajax are kept as ST/returner. Honestly I think Chykie is going to break out this year. We are suddenly stacked with good, young corners. But 7 might be too much. I hope not.

I think they'll all make it. Corey Graham is listed as a corner, but I think the team views him more as a ST only guy. Teams usually have a couple of guys who are designated ST only, regardless of position. We had 13 (maybe) LBs last year, so Graham conceivably comes in and takes one of their spots.
