The [s]#[/s]Ravens have agreed in principal to a 2-year deal with 12-year veteran guard Bobbie Williams.

He ended on IR last year, previously of the bengals.

Does this say anything baout Osemele or Reid? or purely adding depth?

They've both been dinged up, so I think they want to make sure they have as many O-lineman as possible. The Left guard is my only real concern right now.

I think its a combination of depth and the possibilities of injuries. Will be interesting to see how Williams comes back from his broken ankle.

That's a little surprising. He used to be pretty good, did we pick him up for cheap? I dont know how we managed to fit him under the cap.

[sup]Must be cheap. During the off-season only the top 53 players count towards the cap. The rest of the 90 are "freebies".[/sup]

Depth is always appreciated. Given his age, and the fact that he ended the season on IR, I'd assume that he's a bargain pick up. Just hope that it's not indicative of the how the LG competition is shaping up.

I say good depth behind KO, plus it doesn't hurt to bring in some competition for LG to see if KO steps up to prove his worth. I think KO should just start immediately but who knows, maybe his signing could end up being as good as the Willie Anderson signing was.

wow I thought he retired. Anyway, he won't add much to the running game, but is a great pass blocker. From signing a 345 pound Guard and drafting a 330+ lineman, it looks like we're gearing up to be passing more this year.

He played most of his career as a right guard he most be versatile enough to play right and left guard

Probably a good idea. Experience. I checked out a Bengals forum and they all were sad to see him go, they said he was a high character guy... even though he's 36.

I'm just wondering what this says about our 2nd round pick from this year, and our 2nd round pick from last year, needing a 15 year veteran added to the mix. I don't believe it's "quality depth"... because they didn't make this move until after they saw K.O. and Reid in OTAs. Kind of like last year, when we added McKinnie, when we realized the combination of Oher at LT and Reid at RT wasn't going to work out.

Not a disaster, but it doesn't speak well for the FO's first impression of KO and Reid at LG.

another move by ozzie to bring in a veteran for cheap, just more competition and depth for OL

I been hearing this Boren kid has been looking good....I think KO can win the LG job if he stays healthy

what does this signing say about our present situation on the O-line? why can't our FO just groom and then thrust and trust our young bucks in the game? we keep signing all of these old cats! smh!

If nothing else, it says a bunch of our candidates are dinged up and we're going to have trouble fielding a line for mandatory OTAs next week.

Gotta agree with this since Reid and Osemele are apparently banged up somehow. Good signing as a stopgap while they heal, but a 2 year deal? Interesting...Williams was a pretty poor run blocker last year when he was healthy, guess we'll see.

This is a pretty good signing. Williams is a starting guard in this league, that's not a bad thing to pick up. If nothing else, our depth along the line got better, assuming he's healthy.

I don't feel this is any kind of statement on our current contenders for the position. I think it is more for depth (which I'm in favor of, I remember how we suffered when Grubbs was out last season, the more talent to fall back on, the better IMO) and some mentoring of the younger players.

If he can't cut it, he won't make the 53 man roster. It's that simple.

You can't just throw a player into the starting lineup if they're just not capable of playing like a starter. That's just stupid. Obviously, we're not sure if our young bucks are capable of being trusted just yet. Smh.

I hate signing vets more than anybody but you really have to look at it reasonably. It's likely just a depth/insurance move, and if we are looking at him to compete to be a starter, than so be it! what does it possibly hurt? Is it that terrible Mili?
Right player. Right time. Right price. It doesn't get more simple than that. Our FO knows what they're doing when they pick up guys like this. They're quality vets with starting experience on a dime.

At the very least, we just purchased the Bengals offensive playbook and added experience at a weak spot in our line.

You have to remember that Gradkowski is the only one of the young guys competing for that spot that actually practiced this week. There's always room for more depth, especially when we're lacking reliable veterans at the position.

He's a mauler and the oldest guard in the league, can he play in a zone scheme? lol he might have a heart attack if we ask him to pull.

Zone schemes don't typically require linemen to pull too often. But, I doubt Bobbie has the quickness and burst to play in a zone scheme.
