Aaron Kampman Released By Jaguars

24 posts in this topic

Just throwing this out there, what if we could bring this guy in for cheap, he was a pretty good pass rusher while he was in Green Bay (think it was Green Bay)....Jaguars cut him to save some money, this is the type of thing that Ozzie talks about as teams make cuts veterans will become available. If they want to play for a winner, they will come and play for cheaper.

What do you guys think? Or should we just stick with what we got?

I seriously thought he was retired.

He had no production last season and spent the last few years with the Jags on IR. I think if we were going to kick the tires on an old vet pass rusher it would be someone like Andre Carter, he had double digit sacks last season and made the pro bowl.

Yeah Kampman has dealt with injuries while in Jacksonville but he was a beast when healthy...he'd be a cheaper option too like Carter would be....this is the type of move Ozzie likes to make though, not saying he will but it wouldnt surprise me

I dunno. After all his injuries and his age I can't imagine he has much left in the tank. I don't know if he'd be able to produce. But, I would be open minded to working him out and seeing what he can do in camp. He might be able to help for a few weeks until Suggs comes back.

well Andre Carter only has only been successful in a 4-3 type defense Aaron Kampman has been successul in both a 4-3 and 3-4 defense which is something the ravens use. If healthy Kampman is very good pass rusher and he probably more healthy than Carter since his injuried happen during the offseason.

Kampman struggled in the 3-4 thats why the Packers moved on, and roughly half our snaps run out of the 4-3. Anyway if we did sign a vet whether it be Kampman or whoever, I don't think it would matter which scheme they played previously as they would likely be situational with their hand in the ground.

Strictly 4-3. In Greenbay he struggled because of the 3-4. He was ok but the fans even realized he had some issues. I'd rather let McPhee and Art Jones get the reps/experience. Give the young guys a chance instead of going with these aging vets.

that's what i would like to see as well...but not with McAdoo out for the real and not knowing what Kindle has to offer chances are Ozzie and the FO are looking to bring in someone else still...

i dont know if its Kampman but its not out of the question imo

Nothing wrong with bringing a guy into camp to see if he has anything to offer. If he doesn't, they will move on.

Nope plus he was a 4-3 guy. Not sure what Jax runs but he's not coming here.

Kampman had 3.5 sacks and only played 9 games with the packers in their 3-4 defense. I dont know for sure when the packers switch to a 3-4 defense but i guess it was 2009 which is when Kampman had 3.5 sacks. If he did struggled in a 3-4 defense well just keep in mind that he only played in 9 games. Andre Carter played in a 3-4 defense and only had 2.5 sacks also played for the full sixteen games.

Overall you right it really doesnt matter which scheme a player played in and it is true that they would be situational pass rushers with their hands in the dirt(if the ravens do sign veteran pass rush specialist)

I'd like to see us bring in another DE/OLB pass rusher to compete, but Kampman is not the guy.

I'd pass on Kampman. We aren't really pursuing any free agents or older vets that get released before training camp.

Oh really Mr. Newsome? Than why did we just go sign a veteran guard, or a veteran NT before that?

What does it hurt to bring him in for a visit? Like it or not, we are thin at OLB/DE. If Kampman is healthy and if he still has something left why not offer him a cheap contract.

i guess the ravens main worry at this point is OL....they need to solidify that position, good to go on defense pretty much

I stand corrected. We did sign an aged, over-the-hill guard for camp.
For camp? I think there's a pretty good chance he starts at left guard, let alone makes the team. Assuming his ankle holds up, that is.
