I agree but after Forte there is no RB left and there would be less to delay negotiations. If Forte, McCoy, & Foster are all extended then the market is dead-set and Rice's value would be essentially determined. I know Forte has injuries, but he means as much to the Bears as Rice does to us.
This is kind of the thing. The market for RB's has been set. If Rice does hold out or something he's going to get franchised two years in a row and hit the market with even lower value then he'd get now. Agents are just scumbags who like to highball teams. Even if he was a UFA he likely wouldn't get CJ money, because RB's simply aren't worth that much.

I dont mean to burst your bubble, but Cam runs basically the same offense that Norv runs.
Yeah thats the point. They both run the same system but Norv Turner is much better in the passing area while Cameron is all about his RBs. Norv turner gets his QBs to produce, Cam gets his HBs to produce (even in the pass game...Rice is utilized the same way LT was). Norv on the other hand gets his QBs throwing downfield and pushes out 4000 yard passers. Which goes back to what I was saying, if you lose Rice, then it makes sense to get an OC that can improve ur passing game.

Forte and the Bears just agreed to a 4 year deal reportedly worth 8 million a year. So that's Forte at 8 million a year, McCoy at 9, Foster at a little over 8. Hopefully Rice and his agent see this and realize that they probably won't get better offers than these other running backs on the open market.

and personally id take forte over rice
I'd take Foster over Rice, and anyone not named AP. I know he's got a great offensive line, but we were pretty good in run-blocking ourselves last year, and any running-back that can gash the Ravens even once or twice the way he did in the playoffs is awesome to me.

Id take them all over Rice tbf, foster, forte, mccoy, AP, only one im not sure on is CJ. I think i have RR as the 6th in my bookl. MJD is the other ahead of him, with CJ and Lynch just behind. Lynch behind because he isnt a huge threat in passing game.

Turner is very much about his RBs as well. His backs have led the league in touches six times between 1991 and 2007. And between '91 and '08, his primary back finished in the top-five in touches 11 times. Going into this season, most expect Ryan Mathews to one of the league leaders in touches if he stays healthy.

Seeing as he runs the same system as Norv, Cam's has his QB attack down the field a lot as well. Just look at the numbers on the table at the end of this article. For the most part, Joe's deep pass attempt over the past three seasons are more than the other QBS, including Rivers. Look at Q's YPC in the two seasons he's been here. The 15.6 he recorded last season was a career-high and the 13.1 were more than the previous three seasons.

It's much easier to produce 4000 yards when you multiple WRs over 6'2 that can run, like Rivers has had the luxury of in recent years. It took this organization four seasons to give Joe one legitimate deep threat.

Staying on-topic, with Forte wrapping up his deal, it makes Rice look even worse.

this has nothing to do with flacco, this is about ray rice, the rb position, the amount of money hes rumoured to want, his trade value, the amounts of years he may or may not have left at the top level, our ability to replace him, how his rumoured 10mil could be spent else where etc etc

How does flacco come into this at all...?
I agree with you totally, except the fact that the only way Flacco comes into this is how much Ray Rice has meant to a young QB like Flacco. Am I missing something, but has Ray Race been one of the most consistenly productive offensive players in our teams history????YES. The idea that RB's aren't as valuable as in the past is ridiculous. Ask Minnesota, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, and Tennessee if they agree. Sure they might not be to passing teams, but Baltimore has never been a passing team, we has improved in that area, but we are still a hard -nosed traditional run first offense. The fact that the team has not signed this man to the deal he "deserves" is disheartening. I sure hope we don't lose him like we lost so many other players that have turned out to be good players

Not to bring this up again, but 7 million ain't bad for anyone. Good running backs are starting to grow on trees. Take what they give you Rice.

I don't see Ray having much contractual leverage now with Forte's deal having been signed.
Werd. All unsigned running backs have got deals, the market is set. We've got an hour and a half.

Remember, the Ravens signed Haloti on franchise tag day (Sizzle was close to the deadline I think), it's been done before.

you have to think RR isnt that stupid and will settle at the 11th hour.
Only time will tell. About an hour and a half left to go.

If he doesn't sign a contract, I will lose all respect for him.

Then what are you going to do with Flacco? He has to get the tag next off-season.

A little over an hour away from safety.

Would be an upset if the Ravens and their franchise player Ray Rice were able to strike a long-term deal by today's 4 ET deadline.[/background]

That's a little disheartening to hear.[/background]

The only way this deal will get done is if Rice comes to his senses. Ozzie doesn't budge. I don't understand how players think they can negotiate with him.

:(

C'mon ray and FO. Find that magic number.
I think that magic number is $8.5 a year with about 60-65% of the contract gauranteed.

4 year, 32.5 million with 21.25 guaranteed.. that sounds like good numbers to me... THIS IS JUST A GUESS NOT ACTUAL CONTRACT NUMBERS
4 year $34 million with $21.5 gauranteed sounds like a great deal to me. Ozzie please make it happen we got less than an hour.

Just tweeted that at Adam Schefter in response to him saying that its unlikely...

the other plus about locking up rice that no one has really talked about is that it could free up money for flacco
