New Player Safety Rules In The NFL

8 posts in this topic

The NFL has announced that it will mandate knee and thigh pads for NFL players' uniforms, starting next season. Since it's a safety rule, it doesn't need to seek approval before being enacted. Are you in favor of this? The NFL maintains that this will bring down leg injuries considerably.

It's probably going to slow some players down, but I wouldn't be surprised if knee or other leg injuries dropped a bit.

Well if its mandated for all players and slows all players down, then the rate of competition wont change. Problem is tho some players may be able to adjust better than others, but still it shouldnt be too big of a deal. I am for it.

Boldin brought this up today. While he doesn't believe they help, these types of things are mandated in high school and college. The players are whining and making a big deal out of nothing (I'm really fed up with the NFLPA right now though to the point where I'm sympathizing with Goodell). If this helps reduce injuries I'm all for it.

Yeah funny how the players want more safety and bully the league in CBA negotiations about less practices during the off-season because it's safer for them but when the league wants to do something about safety they complain and get upset! Honestly, I would have thought Knee Pads and other pads would have been mandated sooner than this. DeMaurice Smith is ruining the NFLPA.

The extra pads would probably slow down the fastest WRs the most since they are the lightest. Probably won't change the game much except for possibly preventing injuries and furthering the difference between combine performance (shorts/no pads) and actual gameplay.

The pads might indirectly prevent injuries. If the players can't play as fast the collisions might not be as hard and that might prevent some injuries. I don't know thou. Not a doctor! :)
