Wow this is bad i thought 8-9 million would be affordable, but this is tough because Joe's gonna get a big contract and quarterback is more important than rb. I love Ray but i don't know how we are gonna do this.

So humble to play out his rookie contract without a peep...now look at him....I guess hes not going to be a Raven after this season

In my opinion a 25 year old runningback who got outperformed by a 35 year old runningback in the AFCCG does not deserve 10 million dollars a year.

And Matt Forte wants 8.5 million. While I love Rice, I do not think he is better than Forte and I believe he is equally as good as Forte.

This is madness. The whole contract situation has gone insane. I feared for the worst when we drafted Pierce, and I believe he is a contingency plan in case we cannot iron out a deal with Rice. Rice and his agent as losing their grounds for negotiating. The longer this goes, the worse it is looking. I get the feeling that Rice won't be here next year.

If he won't budge from $10 million a year, then he can leave Baltimore. I'd take Flacco over Rice all day, every day.

Hahaha. I've been saying if his demands are too high let him play out the tag, try and franchise him again if you can next year and trade him. I'm not upset with him though, he was severely under paid and never made any commotion. I've said he deserves his cash but we will mist likely not be the ones paying him if his demands are this high. Pierce was drafted for a reason.

10 million is the absolute max I'd go. I'd prefer somewhere around 8, though. I do find it interesting, though, that up until today I have heard nothing but "Rice wants AP money", which is 14 million, and now this article is saying 10 million (while at the same time indicating that even 10 million might be enough for the front office to let Rice walk). But still, say he goes to another team, we had one of the best run-blocking lines in all of football last year - helped by Yanda, who PFF called "the best right guard in the NFL" (after reading that article I also understood how POORLY McKinnie played as well last year). Given the fact that we played teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers twice, the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, all top half of the league in run defense, I'd say Rice would be best served numbers wise saying around Baltimore. Any of the teams that COULD afford him either already have elite running backs or have worse run-blocking lines.

Just franchise him two times in a row and off his way.

He got his big money for two years straight.

Maybe after that, he can go seek the big contract elsewhere when he's 27.

I love Rice and all but I would rather sign Flacco for more money than Rice. Rice needs to take it down a little.

I say we just tag him this year and see what pierce does. 10 mil a year is ridiculous, he can't even open up his own holes. I'm not worried about it though because I know Ozzie won't bend or break.

Rice and Flacco sure are asking for a lot of money for an under performing offense....

These two posts make all the sense in the world to close this thread up. Rice is insane to expect that kind of money and he averaged 2.9ypc in the AFCCG and got swallowed up by Wilfork on a draw play. He could have avoided that Grizzly Bear of a man

He averaged 4.4 yards against top 15 defenses this past season. That is above aveage not elite. I know he is possibly the best pass catching RB in the NFL but he is just an above average runner. No way we should pay him 10 million IMO give him the median of Foster/McCoy/MJD deal or something. I would be fine with that but dont give him AP CJ2k money

I love Rice both as a player and a person, but there's no way we can pay him $10 million. His production can be replicated, maybe not by one person, but by multiple guys. Combine Pierce and a quick back (maybe Rainey, draft pick next year, etc.) and I'm sure they can match the production Rice gives together. You can't pay a RB, the position with the shortest shelf life, that much money and expect the same production they had in their prime. RB is replaceable if you look at where some came from around the league. Not many RBs are first rounders. Plus, we already have Pierce on board, who I personally like a lot.

5 year / 50 mil / 20 guaranteed.
Sounds good to me.

Ha, 20M guaranteed would be fantastic, but way unrealistic!

*sigh*
No one at the FO is going to get off that much.

"It is believed..." means that Ray Rice wants $10 million per year? I will wait for the front office, Ray Rice or his agent to say something regarding contract discussions before I throw Ray Rice into the fire and hope he leaves. Overreaction at its best right here.

Mccoy got a 5 year, 45 mil, 20 guaranteed. I didn't think it was that unrealistic. ...Is there something I'm missing? lol. Does Rice more?

Thinking he and his agent are leaning more towards 25M. Really, people need to stay away from the X years for X amount. That means squat. Its all about the guaranty.

Berry is a speed back and the talk is that the coaches really like him. We may carry 4 backs this year and let Rice walk next year especially if he hold out. its hard to say at this point. I don't think we will pay him more than 8 or 9 to be honest. And if he does the three returning backs could be a good group... each back would bring a big wrinkle of their own.

I hate to say it, but this is seriously reminding me of Jamal in 2006 - now Jamal was much older and had a lot more carries under his belt, but we resigned him only to cut him the next year.
