What's With The Change In Opinion On Jah Reid?

49 posts in this topic

Before last season, people thought Reid would be a RT only due to a lack of footwork and quickness. Now all of a sudden, a lot of people think he can be the future LT. What changed with him? Not criticizing anyone, just wondering what happened to change opinions.

Reid was drafted to play RT and Oher was slotted to start at LT, when we signed McKinnie Reid became odd man out. I don't see Reid as having the feet to play on the left, I don't see it in Osemele either.

Who in the world thinks Reid can play LT, and how do I purchase whatever it is they are smoking/snorting/shooting??

Didn't hear anything like that.

All I have been hearing is that K.O., Gino, Reid are all competing for LG spot.

I have a feeling all three of them will learn multiple positions.

Gino will learn LG 1st, then Center 2nd

K.O. will learn LG 1st, then LT 2nd

Reid will learn LG 1st, then RT 2nd.

And to the others yes I have seen quite a few times on here people saying Reid could be our next LT.. Quite hilarious actually

correct answer.

Reid could quite possibly be our future RT though.

Footwork doesn't make or break a LT, Jake Long and Andrew Whitworth aren't exactly light footed but they're consistently top 3 in pass protection. A short 6'4" tackle with average arms and heavy feet can erase any pass rusher with the right psyche, technique and preparation, physical tools help but don't necessarily make a great left tackle.

Not sure. Reid was drafted as a strict right tackle. Now people want him playing LT and LG.

I say develop him to be a beast RT and let it be. What I wouldn't do for some continuity on the offensive line.

RT would be best for Reid as Oher might be gone when his contract is up. If we move Oher to LG this year then Reid can start at RT, with KO learning and backing up Oher at LG if needed

Yeah I think he's a RT only. I just found it interesting that since Oher flamed out, people moved to Reid being the LT. I figured it was wishful thinking, but wasn't sure if he had improved some aspects of his game to where he might actually be able to play the left side.

I would ask you to go to either Federal St. or Oliver St. around midnight, find a group of young people hovering around with bottles covered in brown paper bags, approach them and ask them exactly how to purchase it? LOL

I think this will help a little bit. Let me predict our O-line next year unless of course we draft an O-lineman in the first round.
LT - Oher
LG - Osemele
C - Gino
RG - Yanda
RT - Reid

For those that are speculating Oher's departure, I have this to say: He is a very talented offensive lineman that don't grow on trees. We jumped to get him in the first round for a reason. Just because he has a lot of false starts does not mean he is a bad player or isn't talented...

Oher signed a 5 year contact in July 2009, so he will be here through the 2013 baring a trade. I heard Reid on the radio this morning saying that the shift from left to right is harder than the shift from tackle to guard. Personally, I think that he will be in the mix to start right up to the end of the preseason. Where is the question.

I wouldn't mind seeing that starting line in 2013. Let me just say that I'm still confident that Oher is going to be at LT after McKinnie is done here in Baltimore. This is despite all the Oher-bashing on this forum over the past several months.

I wouldn't recommend this on the New Year's Day, the 4th of July or St. Patrick's Day.

I don't think that Oher has "flamed out." He is just entering his 4th year and will be at the peak of his athletic ability for several more years. This is a good year to quite the critics with improved play at RT.

Well when the HC says Reid is the starting LG, that can easily add to the confusion.

"Ravens coach John Harbaugh took part in a quick news conference at the Castle to announce the signing of four free agents, but one of the most interesting nuggets to come out of it was the confirmation that Jah Reid is the left guard of the moment.
"I'd say right now he is the left guard, but he's got to earn that spot,'' Harbaugh said, before heading to Atlanta to attend the Indiana/Kentucky NCAA tournament game. The Hoosiers are coached by his brother-in-law Tom Crean."

What about Harewood (if he can stay healthy) at RT or have we given up on that project? He certainly has the size.

Mike Mayock actually said there was speculation that he could play left tackle from Several gms. I linked it before, but I can't pull it up right now.

Unfortunately, it's not just a lot of false starts. He has let up an obscene amount of sacks/pressures/hurries over the past 2 seasons. He has not played up to the level we saw his rookie year. I hope he gets better, and I do agree there is a chance he gets moved back to LT for the 2013 season. I just think there is a better option out there, maybe even KO would be better at LT.

It's not even just pass protection. He struggles at times sealing the perimeter on OLB's and DE's. His footwork needs work in both areas. If he could fix his footwork he would be an elite tackle, left side or right.

I agree that he may be moved back to LT. I'd rather just leave him at RT though.

We haven't seen him at LT so we don't know that he can't play there. Right now we have a bunch of big linemen but it's a puzzle deciding where they'd fit. Yanda, Osemele, and Reid can probably play both guard and tackle, and Gino can play center and guard. At least McKinnie is getting in shape and should be able to handle speed rushers better this year.

It seems like just wishful thinking. McKinnie does not seem to be the long term solution at LT, and he's over 30. He's the only guy on the roster that we know for a fact is capable at the position, but maybe people are using the idea that Reid was named the LG before we drafted Kelechi and that he is a viable replacement for Oher at RT, to assume he can take over at LT. I doubt he's a capable LT.

Oher was suppose to be LT, and Reid was suppose to pick up where Oher left (RT). That didnt pan out.

So now Reid is kind of stuck. Oher is on RT, and Reid needs to find a spot.

It's anyone's game to take any position honestly, but I see us struggling in O-line again. :bitenails:

I don't. I could see us having the same pass pro issues, and maybe more with KO moving in at guard. However, I suspect that we will improve greatly at run blocking. In the trenches, if you have an oline that can beat the balls off a dline in the run game, pass protection gets a lot easier.

I cant find where he said that but , he himself says right tackle only.

The Sleeper
Jah Reid
6-7, 327
40-time: 5.32
Central Florida
Mayock: ``Has 34 ½-inch arms. I think he’s a right tackle only, which is not a good thing to be. He’s the type of guy who doesn’t look good in drills. I saw him at the East-West game. He looked horrible in one-on-one drills. But everytime he got into a team setting he did a heck of a job.’’
Round projection: 3-4

Only person I see that said anything close to Jah playing left tackle is

Mike Mayock says Jah Reid is a right tackle only. I disagree. As I said to [s]@[/s]ChadReuter in Orlando, I see borderline left tackle feet
