Looks like a date with the world #1 on Tuesday.  Will be interesting to see how we fare against the best.

Messi is absolutely insane though.  That free kick was beautiful.

What a huge choke in the final though. Unfortunately his career will be forever lacking if he keeps good on his promise to quit play on the national team. I feel bad for him.

Soccer is such a system game, and it's hard to get that with a strict pool of players on the national stage.  That's seemingly why a lot of guys struggle for their home teams.  Messi's PK miss was absolutely horrid, but in terms of on field play, you can see he's not getting the same level of play around him or type of system that he's lucky enough to have at Barca.  He's still the best player I've ever seen on the field, but I'm young of course.

I did.  He'd be 2nd for me, but maybe that's because of how hard he fell off and that's ingrained in my mind.

Yeah I could see that , but in his prime he was a magician with the ball. He created plays out of thin air, for me he's on a tier above the rest. It's him then a close race between Messi and Ronaldo

Definitely the 1, 2, and 3 that I've seen.  I also think Messi is probably my #1 because I can really appreciate him now.  Ronaldinho was great, but I might have been too young to really understand the magnitude at that time.  The lasting memory is his fall from grace.

How do you feel about Messi calling it quits from the international stage?

I think it's the emotion right now.  I'd be surprised if he doesn't give it another go in what looks like it will be his last shot at a World Cup.

Yeah hopefully he can leave on a high note. I think a lot of people would be heart broken if he doesn't play the World Cup

I think it's possible he means it though. He's been treated pretty harshly by the press in Argentina and it's kind of a chore for him at this point. Also, he and several of his team mates are not particularly happy with the current soccer Federation of Argentina. If there isn't major change I wouldn't be surprised if he bails.

Also a possibility.  I guess I'll believe it when I see it, or rather, don't see him.

Probably the most boring team to watch this tournament.

They might just win a tournament.

It's possible and it would be funny if they did but I think they've gotten lucky playing teams with very little in terms of an attacking threat. I can't see them beating the likes of Belgium, Germany, or even France.

Yep, their defense is suspect but Ronaldo can go off in any given moment and win a game on his own.

I think (and am hoping) Italy takes a championship. Will be tough vs Germany but they've got great record against Germans (apart from the last game) and are playing great footbal in this tournament. Best coach, as well.

Worst collection of penalties ever

Unbelievable. And we moan about NFL kickers missing from 40+ yards with an egg shaped ball.

Yep. I was hoping that we'd get to see the goalies go.
